Haban 402 d / c mutt for me!
10 Attachment(s)
I recently acquired a killer attachment for my cub arsenal! Its a haban sickle bar, and its missing some guts, but I will take care of that soon enough. Here are some pics of it, most of which are from me to remember how blade assembly goes back together and such. Hope you guys enjoy!
|
My favorite thing so far is how they used the hitch plate for mounting the thing, and added a tab so you can keep it on, and still attach your trailer, or whatever.
|
Congrats on your sickle bar mower, William! :beerchug:
|
Thanks Allen! Congrats on your cub wife! :beerchug:
|
Thanks William!

William I'm going to keep a close eye on this thread don't let me down!:biggrin2: Sweet pics too!

Some new pics for my friends!! I think Im going to end up painting it cub yellow, to match everything else, if not powdercoating next year. My biggest thing today, was to straighten out the main sicle bar. Ask Jude- it had a nice 3/8 from straight bend near the middle. I straightened that, and found more imperfections. Now, its about 1/16 from perfect flat across 48 inches. Thats not too darn bad. I cleaned up the crank pin so that I can start rebuilding the sicle sections, and the connecting rod, and driving block for sickle moving bar. Otherwise, aside from the long bent tubing from front to rear tractor mount im good. Id like to invest in some long pointy guards - look dangerous appearance wise, but I probably would never ever find a good blade edge cover.
|
I have more to add. That crank for the pitman head is 3 main pieces! The main shaft, offset weight casting , and the crankpin. Mine are all loose compared to a press fit, but Im gonna try it as is for now.
The pic of the main bar is horrible seeing it on screen - its really glossy deep jet black. I am making the tractor this is going onto hydraulic. I have a hydraulic motor available, but don't know if it is suitable- rpm wise. Anyone out there have any opinions on if thats a worth while avenue to explore? |
William that thing is going to be sweet.... I'd never be able to get one together like that... I gotta take the easy way out and get a complete one :)
|
dude you bought that thing out from under me by an hour! Id have a match up and a working mower, too if it weren't for you meddling kids!

here is a couple pics of my new sickle blade sections. I should have the section bar finished made tomorrow, with sections riveted on. Hopefully, I will have my connecting/ driving rod finished tomorrow also, then mostly assembled. I want the tractor running/ moving, and the sickle finished by sunday. A lot to do, but I have a few ' off work ' days to get it done. If this stupid weather would stop the storms for a few days I could work faster. Picking up material for my frame tube tomorrow- just gotta drill a hole, do the offset bends and cut to length.
|
those are sweet.... Tractor Supply or that website you sent me? I've ran into the rain here too....
|
Sweet, look forward to seeing it all together.
I have a couple knives that could be replaced... On the knives, are they the correct ones or do you have to re-drill holes to install them? If correct, where did you get them, part number? Also, what type of rivet gun do you use for these? Or do you just peen with a hammer? The only rivet guns I've seen are for pop-rivets. Thanks, Bob |
I took a nap after i posted the pics. lol its 4 30 am now, and Im just waking up.
Couldn't wait, so I went to Tractor Supply. Don't go there, unless you have access to a machine shop- these blades are too long from the holes to the back edge by almost 7/16" . If the Haban manual had prints and dimensions, Id be further along! Plus, the rain makes me feel like not working. |
The rivets are oval head steel. You need a round dimpled seat for the head, and a round dimpled punch for forming head on other end. Guess you could hammer it flat- Don't know how well that works. Ill try both ways, and get pics for you for how it looks.

Check THIS out, a tool for sickle bars. Who would of thought...

wish I had 70.00 and didn't have to wait even longer to get it. Imagine how amped up I am about this project. Hammering them down seems to work. Not a clean look, but we would tend to look at the effect on the grass, wouldn't we? The sun is coming out now, finally. After dinner I am going to take the camera and show you all my day's work on this thing.

well, here are a ton of pics coming ! I almost got the blade assembly riveted together, then it downpoured again, and I had to rush to get all the bare steel inside! I got pics in a bit of sunshine. pic 1,2 are the driving connecting rod. Pic 3 is the tubing to bend and will run from the haban to the tractor drawbar.
pic 4 is the connecting rod link I made to run the blade. Pic 5 is a shot of the backbone bar that the blades rivet to- its 48 inches long. Thats a lot of frigging holes. 6 is delrin spacers on end of crank pin. 7 - everything to be coated in ez slide. 8 - before n after . I love the graphite color. 10 was to be a up close of the hammered rivet heads. 11 is better. 12 is the oval heads in counterbores for running clearance. |
Nice work William:beerchug: I kinda had my doubts about seeing that sickle operational, but I take that all back now:bigeyes: I must say I'm impressed with your progress, good luck on the rest buddy!

Thanks Jude! I need to finish the tractor- engine basics wiring, bolt it down, test drive... might even go seatless. LOL . Then the hard part. I need a fully operational mechanical PTO. But, the haban should be complete and ready to run tomorrow.
And Pics of the handle, and how it mounts. These should be helpful, Mike. |
seatless with a Haban... now that's living on the wild side!!! It's coming together great man!
|
Thanks! Im not that wild- Haban will not be mounted during tractor test run!
Are you ready for this weekend Gary?? Gonna dry up some... Well, not supposed to rain more (here anyways) |

Looking great William!
Thanks for the pictures too! Exactly what I needed. |
If I get this haban finished today-- gremlins go hide! I just realized that I can put it on my 1200!! :beer2::beer2: I can relax a bit now.

I may get to use mine some more today if my wife wouldn't get called out so much.... she's already put in 4 hours today and it's only 9:30! |
I don't know any differences. I wonder if the front pto pulley will line up different? I think it is adjustable on shaft anyway... We shall see later. going out with the family for a while. :beerchug: My next big obstacle is going to be the long bent tube. I needed 1 5/8 diameter , and could only find 1 3/4 od. Think I can squeeze it into the clamp at trailer hitch end, but might have to make a plug for mid mount and bending.... ugh.

... sounded good at the time... here are the pics.

don't care what anyone says, I think the grim reaper would fear these things! Nothing short of EVIL and I love it!!! All to cut grass.....
|
In general, the machine is so impressive, you think you got a good photo, but its just a pic. You just cannot get it all in the shot, showing it's prowess. You cannot even handle the thing safely without gloves, and rags to cover the knives. I feel safe knowing that satan would run away!
|
Nice work William!
You will be up and running in no time! |

Gary, You of all should know exactly what I mean... take that sissy blade cover off, and go to move it. if you lift the entire blade, the knives shift. ITS OUT TO GET YA ! Watch your fingers!
|
I think I'm gonna find out what you mean to William!!!

Definitely something to keep small animals away from! |
thats a great question duke . Well, I had the deck off,and the haban frame under it, but the pto belt is wrong that came with it. and the grass was saying come cut me! ... was teasing me. So, I greased the deck, lost a zerk, pushed it back in with pliers, and put the mule drive on. Then the deck. Hooking up the deck , the mule popped out of the Quick attach - that is a miserable situation!!! At this point, I was fighting the machine, and the baby was in the seat. Then after I got it put together, went for a ride, and the rest is history.

So, Allen, Thank you for an idea you gave me by one of your awesome pics near your chain link fence! I think that maybe chain link fence poles are what I need for my haban tube. It Must have been something cheap and readily available, so far, steel electrical conduit is close but not the trick. this is my last hangup on getting this thing hooked up to something. I also need a pto belt, to run it.... those are easier to find ..... Im so darn close to destroying unwanted vegetation... ugh! :biggrin2::biggrin2:
