OK dumb question...

Is it possible to get the smell of 40 year old Hy-Tran out of rubber?

Here's the story.... when I went to change the fluid in the 127 some (about a gallon) of hy-tran spilled on the garage floor.... Well, I had my good NB 992 on (USA made) and apparently some of the hy-tran soaked into the sole or something. Now they reek of old hy-tran. Not that I mind it that much, but apparently my wife doesn't like the smell as much as me. Oh ya, I've washed them a couple times too.

" I love the smell of Hy-Tran in the morning......smells like Victory "

:buttrock:

Try simple green? I'd let the soles soak in that full strength for a while in a shallow pan.

I'll get it a shot... I guess now I see why some places require chemical resistant soles.

I have found that when I mow the dog kennel, the stuff in there will petty much take any smell you had on tires and completely replace it. Not saying it's any better, LOL. :biggrin2::biggrin2:

That's why you need a kennel big enough to ride instead of push!!! been there, done that!

william1041200 06-09-2011 12:07 AM

how did the shoes turn out? hope it all went well!

hjsmith00843 06-09-2011 12:16 AM

wash your shoes with a can of coke in the water. that should do it. When in the military I had to wash my overalls and that is what I used. We had to work on some nasty stinky stuff.

It will also take the smell of human decomp out of you skin as well.

gcbailey 06-09-2011 06:33 AM

I've had the shoes sitting in a shallow pan of simple green over night, I haven't' checked on them yet this morning, but if that doesn't work I'll try to coke. I remember some coke experiments from high school chemistry, pretty wild...

Gary I almost edited this for you but what's the fun in that?:biggrin2:

FYI Unless Gary had a stand in wife the day I meet them she's not wide at all.

gcbailey 06-09-2011 05:06 PM

haha, I just saw my typo snafu. Pretty funny. I can't talk, she's the one who's already ran 5-5K, 2-10K and getting ready for a half marathon, up every morning at 4:45 to run 3 miles, yadda yadda yadda.....

As far as the shoes go, I let them sit in coke/simple green for a couple hours, I've got them out letting them dry now then for the subtle wear them around.

william1041200 06-09-2011 06:02 PM

Wow ! Your wife is quite the runner! Let her run the smell out of your shoes! !!

hydrocub 06-09-2011 06:23 PM

Gary , Hats off to your better half ! I know what dedication the running takes .
And Roland , thanks for seeing the good ribbing for what it was ...:biggrin2:

Good wrenching and nice smelling shoes to all......

hydrocub 06-09-2011 06:30 PM

Oops ...Sorry Duke ...I had Roland on my mind .

gcbailey 06-09-2011 07:46 PM

OK I got the shoes back on and down in my "office" and yup... still got the '62 vintage :biggrin2: That's some good stuff. Oh well, unless she wants to break down and buy me another pair.... I did not try coke by itself, I may try that tomorrow, maybe the coke/simple green together counteracted.... I gotta say, I've been on "restrictive duty" this week due to having surgery last Friday and I've about went crazy. I don't know whether it's sad or joyous that the highlight of my week has been trying to get the funk out of a pair of shoes! :biggrin2:

And for the wife, ya... she's the athlete in the family. I played baseball and basketball in school, but she was on scholarship for basketball in college and also ran cross country.
