Plow skids
 

Does anyone know,do they make a set of snow plow skids that are poly/heavy plastic instead of metal? Was thinking I saw some but can't remember where? :bigthink:don't like marking up the concrete.

Never heard of them, but I would be interested as well if you happen to find any.

I am going to try hockey pucks . I will drill a hole in the center and counter sink one side half way and use a carige bolt ,that fits snug and take and round the bottom side a lil on the outside edge . my center hole will be a lil smaler then the square part on the bolt . So it will draw up into the center hole .

I have another idea along that line. Besides.....have you ever seen a basement wall that a goalie practiced against? You would have black marks all up and down the driveway!!!! I was thinking about using that white material they use for cutting boards in the kitchen, the teflon impregnated stuff. It would hold up even better and not leave "skid" marks. If you make any of these, remember to make extras to sell to all your friends on the board here.:biggrin2: I haven't checked on the material yet, too many projects and so little time. :bash2:

Thanks guys,I like the idea of making some pads out of the white cutting board material. We used that on work benches at my old job and that stuff is tough as nails. Will have to look into it,thanks alot for all the input!:beerchug:

If you use any kind of skids on a paved driveway, you will wind up with a sheet of ice. The skids are for gravel driveways so the gravel stays in the driveway.

What you need is a plastic cutting edge so you can get down to the bare surface of the driveway.

What about a set if heavy duty casters with rubber tires, they wouldn't marr your driveway.

Ive made some skids for my QA-42A snowthrower out of the commercial cutting board and they worked great for paved driveways, wore down a lil quick because the snowthrowers kinda heavy but worked great otherwise. I like westofb's idea on the casters, thats what some of the county-township trucks over my way use on their plows.

my 10xl sears gt has a awsome snow blade that I will adapt to the 128 , it pivots left to right letting you plow through heavyer snow-- It has steel skids -- In 20 years of use I have not marred the drive -- unless the blade hit it -- it seems to glide on the skids remember also the concrete is frozen and icy or wet 4130 might work even better as hard to grab

I used a broken leaf from a truck spring
They are about 2-1/2" wide and maybe 3/8" thick.
I just bent them up @ a 45* angle on each end (using a torch) and welded them to the worn out skids on the Qa42 thrower
I'm sure they will outlast me!
cheap,easy, works great, and they wear like plow shares!

I forgot to mention the tire chains are the real concrete scrapers
