Value of Mott Flail Mower?

Hi guys, the local scrap guy has a tow behind Mott flail mower for sale. I think it's about 3 1/2' wide and looks like it's all there. Could use some paint, but it was stored inside. Looks to have a newer Briggs 8 horse on it. He said he didn't screw around with it to see if it runs, but it looks like it should. Just wondering if anybody knows what these things are worth?

Bump! The guy said he'd leave it out for sale for a few days and if there's no interest, it gets scrapped along with the rest. I'd hate to see that happen, but at the same time, I don't need to spend a bunch of cash on something that has little value.

Not sure what to tell you on that. I have never seen a Mott self powered flail mower. The Motts that are a cub attachment fetch a pretty good buck. Being a tow behind and will fit anything I guess it boils down to how much are you willing to pay for it. I myself would not pay a lot for it as I have no use for such an item.

If you have any weeds, the flail mower is a sickle on steroids. I have a 7.5 foot JD flail that I "mow" pastures with. it is 1000% better than a "bush-hog".

I replaced a 6.5 foot JD "bush-hog" and the flail lets me mow faster ground speed with less fuel usage per hour.

Get it, they are very useful.

Yeah, I hear that. I honestly don't have much of a use for it either, but it's just one of those cool old things I'd hate to see get turned into razorblades. I guess we'll see if there's any more input and I have to see what the guy wants for it. I'm sure I could find a way to make it work on the front of a Cub, lol.

In my area any Mott mower is rare and mostly unheard of. Even the pull behinds are cool! :biggrin2: I say save it from death and if you cant use it pass it along to someone who can and help preserve another machine that will never be made again! :beerchug:

I guess I need to go see what he wants for it. Maybe someboday already picked it up and I won't have to worry anymore, lol.

If he is a scrap guy and he plans on scrapping it if it doesn't sell, then I would figure its worth "scrap" price at the least. Scrap in central PA is about $11.00 per hundred pounds.
Where is it located at?
