1810 Diesel Project
I have had a bunch of problems with blowing up kohler twins so I decided to start my diesel cub project. I acquired a kubota d905 and I am installing it in my 1810 parts tractor. The engine is in and barely fits, the throttle linkage is done, the driveshaft is hooked up, and the radiator is mounted. I also decided to install a hand pump air ride seat on it. Now for the hard and expensive part of finding hooking up power steering, and fitting a fuel tank. After I get it running and driving I am going to install a front end loader on it that I bought for another cub. Hopefully I will be able to piece together a cat0 3-point before plowing season. Here are a few pics, sorry for the crappy cellphone quality.
If anyone has power steering parts forsale please e-mail or PM me. djweeks@mchsi.com http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1810diesel.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...810diesel2.jpg |
Very nice! Thanks for the pics.
Please place a wanted ad, in the Wanted Items section of the site. This isn't the place to place an ad. Thanks! |
Looks like you are having some fun.. Can't wait to see it completed. :beerchug:

Looks good. What type of radiator are you going to use and do you have any close ups of the enginge cradle and drive shaft flange?

I will be taking some more pics in the next few days. |
It is a diesel, its going to need a bigger muffler!!
:biggrin2: Great looking conversion. Couldn't resist commenting on the muffler. Will the manifold hold that muffler up??:bigthink: |

That is not the exhaust that I am going to run. It was on the engine when I had it on the running stand. It was thrown together so I could run the engine in the shop and not go deaf. It will have a much nicer looking exhaust when it is done. Thanks for the replys and the comments.

Finally an update and steering!!
I spent today adding power steering to my 1810 Diesel project. I used power steering parts from a JD318 and modified them to fit the cub. Space is very limited with the large Kubota engine so it took a ton of cutting and welding to make it all fit. I had to remove 3 inches out of the steering column and that was a fun task. Then it took a while to get the spindle and cylinder geometry figured out and to get the spindle reinforced, but now just a few lines and it will be moving and steering. I did not take any pics during but here is a few when it was done. I raised the column a bit over stock, but with the air ride seat it is super comfortable (especially since i'm 6'4" tall). Hopefully I can get the hydraulic lines and the foot hydro controls built this week.

Finished the exhaust stack
I built the stack with a muffler inside, because this engine is really loud without. I used a 3.5" elbow, a thrush muffler/glasspack, and some 3.5" tubing. I had to notch the elbow to clear the hood ( did not want to cut the hood). I am going to add a stainless piece between the stack and the hood to act as a heat shield. I am also going to build a support brace for the stack. I one pic you can see how the air cleaner will sit. I wanted it out of the hood, for space reasons, it looks like a big tractor and I did not want to fill the original fuel cap hole.
I know it looks big but with me on it (6'4") and the 26/12-12 Ag tires, it will look a little more proportional. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ockupstack.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ks/muffler.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...eks/cutout.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ks/blasted.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...blackstack.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...lackstack2.jpg |
Nice job! :beerchug:

yes I understand what you are saying.
If I had used a smaller diameter cyl. barrel (IE Cub) it would of cleared. But I used what I had. So I just built extended axle stubs moving the tires farther out ( wider stance) and solved the problem on my 782. Thank you for the reply. |
What was the cost of the engine swap and what all engines would work on a 1863 model I would love a diesel on mine

Got my hood sides installed, and everything clears. I also picked up some 26/12-12 Carlisle tru powers that I will install once I find a set of 12"x10.5" wheels.

Beautiful job.Shame it wasn't on a super with it's extra 7" in seat area.I know after working with a 1450 then my 2072 Super with loader.I am only 6'1" and the 1450 was short on leg room after any amount of time on it.Now you need to put the travel on foot pedal if you are going with a front loader.
