Looking at a CUB 1572 Diesel What's it worth?
 

Guy I work with has a good running 1572 Diesel with snow blade,60 inch deck wheel weights and chains.......what would be a good price?

He is asking $2600.00.........is he on crack or is this reasonable for one of these truly manly machines?

If it looks real good, runs great, starts easy, then I would say it is worth that, especially with the items that come with it. If you could get us a pic of it and how many hours are on the unit. If it has a plow then it should have a Cat 0 3 point lift. That's about $400-$500. The deck if good $300-$400 and the plow between $250 - $350.

$2600 wouldn't buy mine.

I thought that it sounded a bit high ......but never owned or looked for one til this came along. If he wants this kind of money, I will see if he will post it on here for sale as that is too rich for my blood.
It does not have the 3 point hitch and I should have said that it is a snow blade not plow. Will edit post.
And it looks nothing like yours and is the yellow and white one 1988 model.

With the new info then yeah, he is a bit high. $1800 maybe. The diesel does add some $$$ to it but not that much. Hope to see some pics and we can give a better estimate.

If the paint is good, if the battery is not rotted and everything works and it is not too dirty, I would think it would be worth it. These are going to get harder to find.

Boy you guys are spoiled up there. Down here in Georgia that thing would have been sold on Craig's List before the first hour. They, diesels, are so rare down here and for that price it would be a no brainer. I called a guy about a Johnson loader on an old Wheelhorse and he wanted $2500 for it. I asked how much just for the loader and he said $2500. He sold it the first day. Just look at ebay and you will see certain items getting less frequent on the site and some of the parts are getting scarce too. It seems like the original CC's and the later models are taking over the parts category. Not too much in the middle years and CCC models. I guess it's because people want them as tractors and not as restored items for show.

We paid $2500 for our 782D. It had 350 hrs 50in deck and a 42in plow. That's about as low as they get around here.

I do feel that I stole my 1572. I bought it at auction 1 1/2 years ago. It came with a 450 snow blower, weights, and chains. Also has the Haben power angle blade for the front plus the 50" deck. I paid $1600 for it. With that 450 blower, it blows snow like the big boys. Mine is also a yellow and white. Not as nice as DX3's, but a good clean straight unit.

Wow! for that kind of money you could get a new big box store Cub Cadet with a nice new tin hood and a belt drive tranny. I bet that smoker doesn't even have a cup holder for a nice glass of green tea when your mowing with the optional sun shade!:biggrin2:

I wouldn't think twice about putting $2000 in a diesel like you have described. My dad has been offered $2500 for his several times since he bought it. I would love to have a lead like that. The only draw backs are no 3 pt and I'm guessing no pto? That puts it lower than the $2600 asking price in my opinion

I just gotta have one of those Home Cheapo MTD's NOT. The Sun shade is the best part of the whole thing. :biggrin2:

I think I have said this before, but here goes anyway. I bought my 1572 at a International/Cub dealer in 1998. My brother in law bought a huskie in 1996 and he gave me a hard time about paying 1900.00 for mine. ( and 1050 that was traded at 1000.00 so it was 1900 to boot) Now he is on his 3rd mower and all of his combined is more than what I paid. I would not think twice either. If that mower looks decent, has not been stored outside, I would get it.

Well guys, must say I had no idea about this tractor so, he is going to post it on Craigies' list sometime this weekend for $2800.00. I will post the listing in the proper section when I see it up or if he calls me and tell me that he posted it.
After reading all of your replies, I will know better to pay attention to look for these if I find one for a good deal, this one is just too rich for my blood.

Question on the 15 and 17 HP Kubota diesels - is the power difference noticable? Has anyone run a 54" or 60" deck with both to feel the difference? It looks like they share the same 2.45" stroke, just a bore difference of 2.52" on the 15 and 2.60" on the 17 HP. Are the engines and injection system identical otherwise?

I'm keeping my eyes open for a 1772 or 1782, but wondered if I'd be just as happy with a 1572 if I see one first.

I'm pretty sure the engines are the same other than the bore.

I really doubt you would feel a seat of the pants difference in 2 hp, but could be wrong. It is the torque these diesels put out that is the thing that is awesome. I seriously doubt I could ever do much with my BRS that will ever be more than the engine could handle.

I have mowed with my 1772 and 54" deck for 19 years. No lack of power for sure. I would think a 1572 would be just fine also.

Never realized that there was such a demand for these tractors.
Can't wait to get all of the information and hopefully one of you on here will be able acquire this new toy.
Hopefully he will have this posted on Craigie's list on Monday for you all to ponder.

Thanks for the comments. As someone said above, I think there are just less and less of these diesels on the market, the newer ones are now almost 20 years old, the older ones almost 30 years. I haven't seen one for sale within a few hundred miles of me for a while now.

The low fuel consumption and power make these desirable for people that are going to work them. Also of course they are larger and comfortable to use. Power steering is a huge plus if one has it. :beerchug: If maintained the engine can obtain several thousand hours without major issue.

54" Haban Snow Blade and a 60" Mower deck are not cheap. $2500 for the whole package sounds about right...
You are looking at $4-500 for the blade and about hte same for the deck so that puts the tractor int he $1500 to $1750 range...

Dave...I have both and use a 60" deck...hardly notice any difference between the two.... Just a little more torque in taller grass...from the 17...

Here in Texas, the diesels are pretty scarce. I recently picked up a nice original 882 with a 50 inch deck and only 241 hrs on it. The guy started out asking $3500, but after a lot of negotiating, I was able to take it home for $1800.

Well that 1572 I had originally posted about is stil for sale for $2900.00 and he has not had that many calls yet.........which really surprises me based on the replies above. Had one low ball ridiculous offer but nothing serious yet. I added the post to the proper Craigies list section on here.
Hopefully someone on here will get it so that it gets a good home.
