IH carts

I can't believe I never saw it. Over at my neighbors junk pile there is a IH dump cart. It still has the IH logo on the front of it, but has an area that is rusted thru the bottom left front corner of it. He is an older fellow and kind of particular about things, so I didn't touch it. Its laying sorta upside down with other things around it so dont know much more than that. It's small, 26"x32", maybe 10" tires on it that are shot, its painted white and looks like factory paint. I can see the dump lever. No one has lived there for 12 yrs or so. I called him tonight and left him a message. On the chance he may want some $ for it, any ideas what something like that may go for. I have seen some pics on here of other dump carts, can anyone hook me up with links to pics, or where to look on it for a model or ID #. Maybe someone can ID from pics?

It's a #2 cart Kevin.

If it were me,I would describe what kind of shape its in,don't get excited when talking to him and ask if he would part with it and ask what he was thinking for a price. As for what its worth, its worth how much ever you want to give. It is in pretty rough shape. I'd prob go $20 or $30 since its in such rough shape, but thats my opinion.

I would love to have a nice IH cart, but, they are rare around where I live.
That much work would make me colorblind, which is exactly why I was happy with this one from CL. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...003640x417.jpg I would keep looking, you are in PA, the heart of Cub Cadet country!! :beerchug: You could do some serious restoration to a tractor with what effort that cart needs. :bigthink: |

I would agree that cart has seen much better days. I just told the wife I need to go get the one at my neighbors its a #1 and is in a little better shape. I would agree that this needs a bunch of repair work. the sheet metal in the bottom is all gone and that will take some time to bring back to near original. It can be done I have seen a lot of work put into items if you wan it bad enough. I think this would be under $50, my 2 cents. Get it bring it home and look it over.
Regards, Chris |
ih trailer
I have 2 #2 trailers like the one in the picture both are repainted, its worth whatever you want to pay.

Wow, I had no idea these things were worth that kind of money. I was thinking like $5 or $10, scrap metal price if that much. I'm not sure if the tail gate is there, may be in with the rest of the junk, will have to look. I'm going to keep my eyes open now. There are lots of cubs and cub stuff in this area.
|
keep in mine , you'll have more $$$ in it then its worth. 60 in tires, bearings/valve stems, sheet metal isnt cheap any more. good thing there is 2 to 4 stop signs at every intersection :biggrin2:
but if its worth saving to you, get it. |
I agree, I think $10.00 is a fair price, if the tail gate is there.
It would take a ton of work to bring it back to factory condition, but if you want it just for a worker, weld some steel in the bottom, paint it with that bumpy bedliner paint, and go to work. |
I am in the process of buying the property so there should be no problem getting it for next to nothing. I am meeting with him this weekend or the first of next week.
|
Yes, a 1450, 122, and a narrow frame with no motor, its pretty ruff.
|
I went and looked that cart over a little closer, but didn't roll it over. The tires have some air in them and look fair with no cuts or dry rot. They both spin, so no froze bearings. I could see one stake pocket on the inside, so i'm guessing they are all there. I didn't see a tailgate, but hopefully its around or my neighbor knows where its at. The tilt lever looks factory and appears to be all there. As far as I can tell, other than the rust thru in the corner area, the rest of the bottom is ok, it feels solid elsewhere. I am just surprised at how small it is. It has to be the smallest tractor trailer/cart I've ever seen.
|
Hope you get it Kevin!
you think a #2 cart is small wait until you see a #3 cart! They are really small! |
Haven't met with him yet, he was just leaving the other day as I got home from work. But we did talk over the phone, and things are moving along. Said he'd be in and we'd look at the cart. He has some cement blocks and other stuff stored there that he said he was going to move the stuff he wanted. His son was out and moved some stuff out of the house over the weekend. I keep looking for him, I want to get that cart rolled over and have a look at it.
Thanks for the interest |
I agree. Hope it works out for you.
|
No, haven't seen the guy, he was out yesterday and mowed and i wasn't home. May have to call him agian. We have a verball agreement on the property, but he wants to get some stuff out of the house and off the property.

Here are some pics of the trailer my neighbor gave me. I was asked in another thread if I got the #2, and I didn't. I guess my neighbor took it as its gone. He knocked on the door one day and said he left a couple of trailers for me and this was one of them. The other was a Craftsman. This one is a dump. At one time it was white, but has been painted at least twice, but I doubt it is an IH.

Good find on the cart. It'll be a nice project for you.
|
Any idea's on the Mfg, or is it just generic?
|
It might help to let him know you don't want it just for scrap metal.
