126 project

Ive recently aquired a 126! Not a nice one but good enough for me! Plan on a full restoration/refurbish for this one. Looking at a previous thread didnt know these were rare, so ill do my best to put it all back to original :beerchug: but anyway heres the pics! First pic is the tractor, i have the deck but not attached, and painted up in Caterpillar yellow and black paint with some art on the hood. Second pic is a cool metal Caterpillar logo that came with it! The last pic is a little hard to see but the key is original i think as it had a raised IH on it!

Congrats on the 126, Dan! Looking forward to your restoration on it.

Nice find Dan, you'll have to get a trailer and bring all your cubs to Red Power Round Up :biggrin2:

Nice score Dan! I'm looking forward to your updates.

Alan and Duke thanks! Ill make sure to post lots of pics! :beerchug: Now to business on getting it restored. I havnt got it to run yet, still tearing into it to find all the broken parts. Ive got to do some surgery on the hood and trans tunnel. The tunnel cover on the 126 at the creeper slot has been bent with something and i can see cuts where someone almost started to open it further with a grinder wheel :bash2:. The hood holes where it bolts to the grille have completely broken away and the PO mod was done by taking different lenght flat stock with holes in it and drilled new holes in the hood to bolt it back on. So ill either need to find another hood or try to take the 102 parts tractor hood and make up the difference for the missing and mangled metal. Suprisingly the rear fenders are in great shape! Ive already decided on Firestone 23 degree rear tires and Firestone tri-ribs. Not sure what im going to do with the seat but i like it! |
I love the grill mod,and the other mods, maybe if you leave it that way you could name it PSYCLOPS!!
:biggrin2: Don't you just love PO mods!!?? That is why I never sell them!! What would the new owner type in this forum if I sold one of mine!!?? :bigthink: http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...008640x359.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...863640x446.jpg |

Thanks DWayne! How many years were the 126's produced?
|
2 years.
And congrats on the new cub!:beer2: |
They are also the 3rd rarest cub built behind the 800 and 169

Heres a little up date on the 126. The wiring harness is shot, so instead of trying to save it im going to buld a new one from scratch. Got the engine pulled tonight and man what a greasy mess! I think ill have it taken down to the machine shop and have them look it over. Never hurts to lets the professionals do that dirty work! Sorry for some of the pic quality, not the best camera phone pics at near dark, flash is almost too bright. Tomorrow i hope to have the fenders off and start the trans tunnel repair. Then i can start on stripping off the flaking Caterpillar paint, that for what ever reason was brushed on or sprayedvery lightly. The original paint under it looks realy good, but ill make it better! Anyway heres the pics of the engine out, ill get better one tomorrow. |
i'm redoing mine too.
|
Looking forward to this one!

Got more torn down on the 126 today. Got the wire harness, choke cable, battery hold down, and the amp guage off. Hosed down the frame and got some of the gunk off, but will need to do more with a wire wheel. Started on the steering wheel removal, hopefully it wont be too much of a pain, just lots of deep creep and pb blaster. Bolts on the foot rests might as well be welded on, along with the bolts holding the seat springs on the seat pan, which also happens to be on upside down, and since they are IH bolts im taking my time to get them free so i can reuse them. Just before i lost light i took the amp guage and cleaned it up. Wouldnt eventhink it was the same guage! and of course heres the pics!
|
Thanks for the update Dan .:beer2:
And that amp gauge looks awesome ! |

Been getting a little more done on the 126. Cleaning up the fiberglass dash and getting it pretty nice actually! Working on filling a small hole on the side with some JB weld. Got all but one of the bolts holding the dash tower on off, and had to use the angle grinder to cut off the bolt head since it decided to round off on me. :bash2: Hopefully i can retap it after i drill out the rest of the bolt. Cleaned, primered and even painted some small parts. Im liking my etching primer, as its making the paint richer in color and the yellow isnt as light in color as my previous restos. Im realy pushing to get this one done in time for red power! Heres some pics and more to follow!
|
Thanks for the update and pics.
|
Lookin good Dan, hope you get it done in time!
