Homemade ripper
Just finished this last weekend, all painted up too. Works really well, i've been using it to rip my driveway and then rake it over. The teeth can go up and down or removed to rip trenches as well.

New cutting edge from Xtreme (hint: it's the same one used on front 42" blades) http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...jpg?1344614897 http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...jpg?1344614903 Looked like this when I bought it http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicle...jpg?1344614912 I also have a rear rake, that's the next project. I really need to replace all the tines and then blast and paint again :beerchug: |
where did u get the ripper teeth? id love some more info
|
That looks awesome. Great work!
|
Thanks for the compliment.
The teeth I bought from Agri Supply http://www.agrisupply.com/ just do a search for ripper shank, they were relatively cheap ($12 a piece I think). They make smaller ones but for some reason they are also more expensive. |
Nice ripper and blade! Outstanding job!

Nice ripper and great job on the blade too.

Looks Great !
But if your ripping that driveway your doing something!:biggrin2: |
Thanks all!!
Ripper works pretty good for getting the driveway loose, it's compacted shale from when I built the house so it packs in really tight. When I was using just the rake i would have to make about 50 passes up and down it before it was even loose. Now a few passes with this and it's ready to rake. My driveway is about 1500ft long so this is a huge time saver. Thanks again! |
Nice job on the ripper and blade. :beerchug:

That thing is too cool and would be perfect for some work I'm going to be doing this fall!, I'm going to have to build one.
Quick question, how did you cut the holes for the for the shanks? Were they torch cut? Scott |
Thanks guys!
Well, I got a quote from a guy who had a waterjet table to cut the holes, he told me about $100 bucks. So after some thinking I said well for a $100 bucks I'd rather do it myself and pocket the money. Long story short, I used a big drill bit (3/4") and then a 4.5" grinder (not much I can't do with a 4.5" grinder) and cut the slots. The problem was they were still to tight. In the end I ended up using a torch to stretch the slots just a little more. If i had used a larger drill bit it would have gone much smoother and faster. |
Nice work! That IH backblade is cool. I bet that is handy too! Thanks for the time and pictures!:coffee:

BANDITCUB,
Lovin the ripper fab work! very nice construction! I would add a back blade like that to my collection any day of the week. I have not seen any around here. Great job on both implements! Thanks for taking the time to post the shots. Regards, Chris |
Thanks all the compliments guys.
When I get the rake done I'll try and post up some pics of it as well. The tine replacement is going to take a while, they are no longer made, so having to use the A&I universal ones is going to take some time. |
