Project 1650 Progression

just picked up a 75 1650 for basically free.......got her all cleaned up and got her running. Moves forward and back, PTO works...need to do ISO mounts and cooling fan. Trunion and rag joints look sweet.......issue i have is the lift lever moves foward and back, but nothing happens.....searched here and in the manual i don't know where/what to look for...troubleshooting tips?

pics for you guys..

Nice pick up. Even nicer when its free!

Leadslingingdaddy 03-09-2013 01:55 PM

What lift? Deck or sleeve?

red56turbo 03-09-2013 02:00 PM

Nice looking 1650! Congrats. You did well especially if ya got it for free. Rear lift and all. :beerchug:

Pull the tunnel cover off and run the lift to see if the cylinder is moving. Probably sheared off the pin going into the rockshaft. If the cylinder doesn't move, then we'll have to dig deeper.

timbo2 03-09-2013 02:02 PM

First off I'm jealous you got that for free.

I just finished fixing the hydro lift handle on my 1450. The brass handle broke under the dash where it attaches to a bracket, then linkage to hydro pump.

not easy to get to but I replaced it by getting a new brass handle drilled a small hole and reused the old parts from there. I removed the gas tank to get to it.

First used pliers or channel locks and moved the hydro in and out at the pump itself. if the hydro moves then you know the problem is handle/linkage related.

you need to look and see if the arm is broke or if you are lucky just not attached to the bracket for some reason. since the arm is not swinging freely it probably is not broken but hard to tell without seeing it. a good look under the dash will help.
goodluck-

all4jpn 03-09-2013 03:18 PM

will do fellas,,thanks for the leads.....does the single handle lift the deck and rear sleeve?...meaning are both connected at the same time and both will move?...or is one connected, and then have to disconnect and reattach the other?

im sure you guys wont remember, but in 2011 i got a 79 1650 for free also. turned out it had broken rings, and a bad hydro..(got parted out/scrapped)so this is my second 1650..1st one was abandoned by my buddy behind his workshop..this one was from a coworkers dad. He died, coworker wanted to get rid of everything. She told me to just take it, but i gave her scrap price minus fuel because it had sat for 6 years and condition was unknown....thankful it started up so easily...a mouse nest flew out the flywheel hole and a rotten mouse went past me head by inces..:bouncy::bouncy:

mortten 03-09-2013 04:30 PM

Saw this on the early cj 5 site. One lever does both.

all4jpn 03-09-2013 04:35 PM

owe ya'll one:beerchug:

pulled the firewall off, forgot about the ram on the column....wouldnt budge..2 shots of kroil, and a little plier jiggle, she moved.....put back together, and it up and down:beer2::beer2:

here it is all washed up..(covers and hydro cover not in place due to needed repairs)

darkminion_17 03-09-2013 07:38 PM

Nice score free is for me.

ACecil 03-09-2013 10:06 PM

Nice 1650! You did well!

cub149 03-09-2013 11:14 PM

Wow! Super nice looking 1650. I wouldn't paint that at all. You just don't find them in that shape everyday. I know where you can find a new lens for the tail light. PM sent.

red56turbo 03-09-2013 11:34 PM

I wouldn't paint it either. She cleaned up nicely. Those tail light lenses can be hard to find. They do come up for sale every once in awhile, though.

Grampie 03-10-2013 09:53 AM

Look's like it's in really nice shape and was taken care of ! You got you're self a super deal there! Best of luck with it!!!
