New to me 1872
 

This is the super I found on CL a couple days ago. Really wasn't looking for one, but we all know how that goes...........

Nice, unmolested 1872. Picked it up from the second owner. Pretty complete tractor needing the usual freshening up. The PO told me the ignition switch went bad. He bought one at Lowes, but it didn't work. He jumped it with needle nose pliers and she started and ran pretty good. Gonna need a tuneup and oil change. Sheet metal's in good shape, but in typical CCC fashion, she shed her decals. :bash2: The PO had picked up new decals and sent them with me. Has a 3 point on the back, no PTO. Also came with a Haban power angle blade with some leftover parts from when it was a manual tilt blade. Also has a Haban 60" deck and mule. Don't know if I'll keep the deck or not............ He also had an A frame laying next to the tractor and told me to take that as well.

Question on the blade. It has a white cylinder from CC on it. Did Haban have their own cylinders for blades or did they use CC's? I know it was added because of the manual tilt parts and a set of CC mounting blocks for the IH blade that came in a box of misc. parts.

It didn't happen without pics so enjoy. The pic of the deck was through a glass door cause it was raining and I didn't wanna melt. :BlahBlah: :biggrin2:

Thanks guys. Hope to tinker around with it this week, replace with a correct ignition switch, and try to get her running without jumping the switch. We'll see.

Looks like a nice package deal. Every Haban i ever see has the white big bore cylinder ,i dont know who made them but it does seem like that was supplied by cub. The small bore power angle cylinder was for the 14 and 1650. Im not sure what size bore was used in the early 80's or when they changed to the larger. Dave

Josh, when I got the Haban blade for my 1572, I also had the extra manual blade parts and the white angle hydraulic cylinder, right out of the box from CC. I always got my attachments in the box from the dealer and assembled them myself, right in the garage. I love those days!!!

Nice score! My Haban blade has the white cylinder as well.

Make sure you use the rock shaft brace with that heavy blade!
Trust me you don't want to replace a broken rock shaft on a Super!

Thanks for the info on the cylinder. It has the large CC white cylinder. The PO even had the IH blade mounting blocks in a box with the 1872. I believe all the manual tilt stuff for the blade is there as well. Suprised the PO didn't chuck it.

That's how I found out! I hit an immovable object buried in the snow at speed. Oh yeah, there is another hint. You only want 2 of the 4 trip springs on the blade when pushing snow. Only need all 4 for heavy dirt work at low speeds.

squatch, I don't remember ever having or installing the support bracket for the rock shaft support. I still have all the pieces from the original install from the late 80's around here somewhere. Just have to find it! I'll see if it still available from my dealer. You know I was looking the other day for some part, and I was saddened to see that in most cases, there are very parts left that are available should you need to repair something.
I have a 48" Haban rear PTO powered tiller that is a story or thread of its own but all that is available for that is a bearing or two and some nuts and washers should it ever need something...

Funny you mention the spring thing. My blade only has 2 springs and I was wondering why it didn't have all four. :biggrin2:

I only run 2 springs plowing snow with the Haban! :beerchug:

4 springs and you pretty much have to ram a concrete wall at full speed to make it trip. Finding yourself on the hood while still 1/2 seated is no fun!:RedFace2::Shocked:


I'll be bad and plant 1 more seed. These tractors LOVE weighted AG tires and V61 fronts.

Nice super Josh! When I grow up I want a super. Not that I have the yard space to warrant one but we all know that doesn't really matter. By the way nobody asked what you paid do you care to share so you can really make us green with envy?:drool2:
