Call me a trend follower...

Today while strolling the town, My friend and I notice an old cart sitting back in a lot down an old alleyway. We got curious and drove through the alley and my friend suggests that's a #2 cart. So, we knock on the door and a lady comes up and we ask her about it. She has no idea what it was and said she just wanted it gone. Sooo, in the truck it goes. We are about 95% sure its an IH #2 cart. And besides some surface rust, it isnt in too bad of shape. Can't complain...it was FREE! I guess after seeing many people pick up some of these carts the past few weeks I decided I better take a shot at getting this one...

Awesome score! Looks like it still has the original wheels/tires.
Yes sir. Still has the original Goodyear tires on it (according to my friend). Needs a spring on the dump latch, but that's no big deal.
Looks like a #2 to me Ryan!
Congrats on the cart and free to boot!:beerchug: |
You paid WAY too much for that! :biggrin2:
Thanks guys! Sam, you're right, I was crazy to say yes on this deal!
:Shame: You stole that thing Ryan. Well technically asked to take it, then stole it.....................................:biggrin2:
Josh: guess I was in the right place at the right time!! :beerchug:
I think my plans are to repaint it and make some stained side stake boards for it for parades and such. |
Seems like you and Marlin need to take some more "road trips" together. You guys find all the neat stuff. :beerchug:
Haha, thanks Josh! Marlin and I haven't had a good deal in a while! He was pretty excited about this trailer. I told him he can use it until I get some free time this summer to pick it up at his place. Knowing him it might be already painted up and ready to roll! :beerchug:
Nice find on the #2 cart, Ryan!

Heres a long update on this little cart...
I decided to get this out of storage a week or so ago to finally do the repaint. It needed a lot of work, but most of it was permanent fixes. First, the floor of the cart was not that great. After cleaning it with a flap disc it showed some major holes in the corners of the floor. So, I ended up cutting a white piece of 1/4 inch plastic to line the bottom of the floor and cover the holes. I did this because A: this wasn't a restoration quality piece. B: I want to be able to use this for light duty stuff, and be able to parade it. The plastic (in my eyes) will aid in dumping loads and still be durable for what I want to do, and still maintain a good look. Second, this has to be the most abused, worked, and neglected cart I have ever seen! This cart definitely didn't owe the PO a dime. I spent 4-5 hours re-bending the sides straight, pounding out dents, and getting the fenders straightened out. This was considered a re-paint, not a restoration. I cleaned the entire cart with a flap disc, sandpaper and a sanding block. I pounded out dents and got it as true as I could. Wiped down, primered, painted two coats of IH off white, and clear coated the top, sides, hitch, fenders, and inside of the box. Lastly installed new decals (thanks Terry D. and John B.!) and lined the floor with plastic. Any comments or suggestions are welcomed! It was a fun project and hopefully it will last for a while. |
Looks good from my house!!

X2 from my house.
It looks a lot better than mine.....
In addition, I believe that this cart was not a true IH cart...I believe after doing some research tha tthis was a Sears garden cart. It had a red body, and white wheels. I never did scratch through the rust on the front or back to find parts of an IH logo. It did say a name on it but it was too far gone. What do people know about the cart history? Just curious.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, I appreciate it :beerchug:
Great score on the #2 cart!!:beerchug:
Your cart came out great, Ryan!
I guess I will be the first to say it......Ryan, you are a "trend follower". Cannot believe that I was the first to say it...:biggrin2: The cart turned out great and will give you many years of service. My local cub dealer made a train to pull behind out of 55 gallon drums. He pulls his grandchildren behind in them in parades. If you find enough #2's, you could have a wagon train!!
Can't wait to see your wooden rails when you get them set. Nice score and repaint, buddy. Cub Cadet 123 |
Nice job on the cart Ryan!:beer2:
Thanks guys! :beerchug:
Nice cart, might be an ez rake, they made a cart similar to a cub cart.
