Stupidity at its greatest

I was selling a canoe for my uncle on craigslist. He won it at a raffle and never used it. We were selling it for $700.Last night a guy called me and asked if it was still for sale and I said that it was, he said he wanted to stop by and take a look and maybe buy it. Today after work I pulled the canoe of of the attic in our shed and polished it up. He asked for directions since he mixed them up and got lost. I gave him directions and waited until he came. He finally got there almost 30min late and shook my hand. He said that he would take the canoe for a dollar. I thought to my self what is he talking about and I said that I was asking for $700 and he said it said $1 on the ad and I told him that if he would've read closer he would have seen that I was asking $700 and he said thanks and left. It was a $1000 canoe! why in the world why I sell it for a dollar. some people just amaze me.

I have seen a lot of Craig's List Ads, where in the title of the Ad, it clearly states $1.00, but once you click on it and open the Ad up, there is a different price. I never understood the logic behind that tactic.

I've noticed the same thing myself a number of times, don't know what that's about and don't understand it.

When posting an ad on craigslist, if you do not enter a value in the price box, the system will automatically populate $1 in the price box...

Shaner 05-22-2013 02:14 AM

allot of people put $1 in the price box because people will read the title, see $1 and it encourages people to open and read the ad.

Sellers like that I won't even waste my time with. Put a price on something and don't try to confuse people.

cuber 05-22-2013 05:43 PM

Yup Yup I think you could call it false advertisvment and if you have a friend that is a good lawyer you could sue and get it for the advertised price LOL

Price of item $1, price of attorney $1000 , the look on the sellers face when you hand him a dollar to buy his item... PRICELESS LMFAO :bigthink:

CADplans 05-22-2013 07:17 PM

"Not responsible for typographical errors!!":bigthink:

More sellers on CL get less than asking price, than buyers that get higher than asking price. :biggrin2:

CL is known as buyer beware.

I always offer a warranty, guaranteed until you reach the end of my driveway!!

Also I have a deal with the bank, they do not sell on CL, I do not accept checks!! :ExtremeFunny:

Agreed... No sympathy for the OP on this one. Name your price clearly all the way through the ad and this wouldn't happen.

The only thing worse is when someone advertises what turns out to be straight up junk. I once drove 4 hours, round trip, only to come home with my money still in my pocket, out $40 in gas, and one less vacation day. I'm still pissed about it!

Shaner 05-25-2013 12:55 PM

thats my philosophy as well....once it leaves my driveway, not my problem!

ajcombs 05-25-2013 01:49 PM

Had a boss one time tell me that 90% of the world was knuckle dragging idiots and now their on CL lol had a guy come to my place asking for one of my tractors. Agreed on what my lowest price was before he came, he gets here and offers way less claiming he don't have correct change. The part that is funny is he claimed it wasn't worth going and getting the correct change, i was like whatever have a good day then. He calls the next day saying he has the correct change, i made myself unavailable to meet and sold it to someone else!

I don't read to much into the ads themselves just wished most were more complete like why not list the mileage when selling a car. Lol so ive just become accustomed to calling to get the real story and thinking someone only wants a dollar for something is certainly a sign of ignorance maybe hopeful wishing but come on really...

cubcadet 05-25-2013 01:58 PM

lol wow:biggrin2:

Whizdbiz2 06-07-2013 03:03 PM

Oh, come on guys...

Although annoying, you don't have to read too many CL ads to know the $1 ones aren't really selling an item for a buck. Look for the price in the ad! I do see some with no price, so if you are interested call/text/e-mail them for a price. This isn't rocket science, unless you are buying a rocket.

rweaver 06-07-2013 03:55 PM

the only time I wont put a selling price in if I have pics of my deck pile the I put the price of the cheapest one and state in the add prices vary on size and cond but never just a buck cause like you guys I hate a get you in the door price but wont sell it to you price
