New member with a problem
Hey all, just joined after searching for info on my problem. Hope I've come to the right place.
I was mowing yesterday was going well, until it wasn't. I have a CC GT1554 from about '07-'08. Still runs well, (it did until yesterday), PTO works, but the darn thing stopped moving as I was mowing. Did I maybe throw a drive belt? I know you may need more info, so ask away. Any help to steer me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Dave |
:Welcome2:
Yeah, sounds like the hydro drive belt broke. Start with that. You should be able to see it up underneath the machine. It's the belt at the top. |

I thought it might be the belt...I'll see what I can see. Is that difficult to replace? |

Well, looks like this has been getting messed up for a minute or two.:bash2:
I put the tractor up on ramps and looked at it. Found the belt partially shredded, so I tried pulling on it. My granddaughter helped me push it to the shed, and when we moved it the impeller was laying on the ground. Looks like the belt came off the pulley, rode on the impeller, partially melted it and shredded it all at the same time. This may be more fun than I thought it would be. I have the service manual, but don't know which direction to go here. Please tell me I don't need to pull the transaxle to replace the impeller (if it's even a replaceable part). |

Yes. My bad.:bash2:

You really need that fan to help cool the rear end of the machine. Definately replace it before using it again.
|
Oh, I plan to replace it. My issue is how to do it.
Exploded view on partstree doesn't give the fan a part number. I'll keep looking. |

Isn't this what your trans looks like? Attachment 39021 #104 is the fan...... |
WTH?
That's a bit small and doesn't enlarge well, but if that's the same GT1554, then it's the part I need. I appreciate the fact that you even looked for that. Do you have a link I could peruse? ETA: Here's the one I've been looking at..http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=c...n=6901669D0003 J-Mech, I found the part by going back to the main page on that site, then digging in. I need to take a real close look at the tractor to see exactly what sort of collateral damage needs fixing. |
So, I ordered the fan and belt, rec'd them and now have another issue.
How in the heck do you keep the pto clutch and trans pulley from turning while removing them? The pto clutch needs to be removed to pull the drive pulley down. The trans pulley needs to come off to mount the fan. I have the service manual, but it doesn't give much detail beyond "remove pto clutch" type info. No info on HOW to do that. Any help would be appreciated. |
Impact gun is the best. Otherwise, if you are by yourself, pull the cover off the fan shroud and put a crow-bar in the fan. Use that to hold the motor. If you have another person, you might be able to have them hold the motor while you turn the wrench.
On the trans, you can take the fenders off, and maybe get to it, but it would probably be easier with the trans out of the tractor. BTW, sorry I didn't see your post asking for the enlarged pic. I would have provided the link. |
Thanks again J-Mech.
I've already pulled the fender assy. to get better access to the top of the trans. Not sure I can get an impact on there, but I'll take a good look. I'll pull the trans if I absolutely have to, but that seems crazy, just to change a fan blade. |
Thought I'd post an update on this.
Stopped into a CC dealer today who quoted a decent price to replace both fan and drive belt. I'll push it onto the trailer, strap 'er down, and drop 'er off ASAP. Thanks to those who responded. |

Greetings from newbie from Norridgewock in central Maine. I have a 1965 Cub Cadet 100 that needs a new throw out bearing. I have the new bearing but I need advice on the procedure for replacing it. Do I need to remove the steering pedestal or should I go at it from underneath?
Thanks, Tom |
Welcome to OCC, Tom! Glad to have you! Please ask your question in the IH built GT section of the site. :beerchug:
