149 pic request
Could someone snap a couple of pictures to show me where the mount (bracket) on the starter/generator goes to on the engine. The top bracket that you adjust to change/remove the belt and tension.

I don't have a picture but it bolts the same place that all the others do.
Left hand side of engine, 3/8" bolt hole, right behind the starter pulley and basket. |

To me, that upper bracket arm is on the wrong side of the S/G mounting tab. Is that a Cub Cadet S/G...???

I'll have to play around with it this evening. I can't/couldn't remember if the bracket mounted into the block or onto a bracket on the heat shield. I just glanced, but didn't see anything in the engine block, but again, that was just a glance.
One other thing I've noticed, it looks like gas is coming out of the cab. The air filter and pre-cleaner looked to be soaked in a gas/oil combination. I'm beginning to wonder how much maintenance this thing has had over its life. the hydro is in great shape and really smooth in F/R. You can tell this was a flat land tractor.... the brakes have never been adjusted and the pads look brand new. In fact, when you press on the brake pedal the pads don't even touch the disc! haha |

The bracket should mount to the block right behind the big pulley on the crank IIRC. Don't have any pics handy. Got rid of all my single cylinder cubs...........:bigeyes: |
Yep that is how it mounts, you have remove the pto and the pto basket to bolt it back on, unless the bolt broke off in the block,It should be any easy fix.

OK... I see the hole, so the muffler is definitely going to have to come off. Apparently it's been this way some time too...

Unfortunately, it's not just the muffler. PTO and clutch basket/pulley need to come off to get the bolt in the hole.

Sawdust beat me to it. I have a 102 engine (K241) that my son and I are restoring and the bolt is just long enough that it hits the pulley before it is out of the hole so that arm stayed on the engine and gets painted with the engine.

Just now getting a chance to get back on this.... So... how big of a job is it going to be to get the PTO off and the basket pulley?

The set screws can be a PITA. The best thing to do is hit em with a good penetrating oil such as PB Blaster. There are actually six of them. They are located in three different holes. You take out the first three and there are another three under the first three (make sense?). They are allen head set screws. The bearing also has a locking collar on the crank. Time and patience and it'll come off. I've had some fall off, but others took an act of god.........:biggrin2: |
The first set if allens are locks for the second set. Take a tap and clean the threads first, that will help.

I've put a PTO on my 127, which didn't have one... I've just never took one off. I've got about 5 cans of PB, so I'll give it a good soak. It'll be another week or so before I can get back on it again. One thing about all the rain, it makes the grass grow and the landscape business stay busy...

Your talk of rain makes me jealous. The last rain we had here was August 7th. :bigeyes: I think I've mowed once in the past 6 weeks. Real dry. Grass dead and the trees are showing signs of stress. Atleast its September and not June. Good luck on the PTO. :beerchug: |
