2086 odd brass dowel-collar???
 

I tore down my Cub Cadet 2086 with Kawasaki 20hp motor, replacing gaskets and such. It seems a brass dowel or collar fell out somewhere and I cant find any place that it would go. I've looked at motor diagrams to no avail. All the other dowels or collars are made of regular metal but this is brass It's giving me major headaches. I can't find anywhere this should go.

anybody know where this BRASS collar or dowel goes?seems like it fell out from somewhere when i took the crankcase cover off but i didnt notice from where it happenned so fast...the crankcase has 2 collars or dowels in it but they are steel and this is brass ...the other ones are steel and dont seem to be missing one anywhere...diagrams have been no help...

Do you have a service manual for this engine? It would seem like that should show it. :bigthink:

no have been looking at diagrams on partstree ...cant find anywhere that this would fit ..the block has 2...cylinders have 2 each...nothing seems to be missing:BB&YS:

Just my nonprofessional opinion I would buy a service manual.

Looks to me like a stand off spacer for a fuel pump mounted on the shroud or a spacer that goes on the gov mechanism. Isn't there also a spacer like that on the air filter mounting bracket.:bigthink: Parts tree shows a collar like that under the gov/choke plate.

could be but i havent took the governor off and theres no plate around it just unhooked the springs

Looks like it's cadmium plated if parts tree or service manual give a list of parts maybe it will be noted that it's plated ?

Check that dowel with a magnet maybe it's not brass.

Does it have a hole through it? Or is it solid? I agree, it looks coated, not brass.

yes its coated it just looked brass colored..has a hole thru it....its just puzzling

If it has a hole my guess is it has something to do with an oil gallery, but that is just a guess without the manual in front of me. :bigthink:

The valve covers have a collar on them......
I have taken motors apart and had stuff "show up" that I don't remember. Sometimes, it was stuck in the gunk that was covering the motor. Dropped there during previous work. If you can't find where it goes, I'm sure it will be fine. I wouldn't use any sleep over it. It's probably a spacer, or a sleeve. It sounds like you double checked all the dowels, so, look it over once more and see if you notice anything. Usually internal engine parts are not coated, so I'm pretty sure it's nothing that will cause a failure. Good luck!! :beerchug:

J-Mech I also seen on the PDF at parts tree of the head where the valve cover showed a very similar under cylinder heads part number 21. I'm not sure what else he can do now to identify the part other than find someone with a cub cadet same engine/or model or label each piece while inventorying parts and lay out to parts tree (or similar) pdf.

Here is a pic of the spacer in the valve cover on my Kawi. Does it look like this?

none are missing from the valve covers and they are smaller too..the search goes on..thanks

i finally found where that bloody collar was missing from.....it was in one of the bolt holes for the little black funnel thing under the oil filter on the outside....
