3 Attachment(s)
Mike finally let me have my front mount deck! Hehehe. Actually I should say I finally had time to get it, been very busy at work the past couple months!!! Anyway its a front mount woods 48" deck for a narrow frame. was on a 100 before I got it. It needs a little TLC but nothing to bad! Looking for info. on it, like model number and so on! Only the 3rd one I've ever seen do I'm pretty sure their pretty rare!! If anyone has any info. they could pass along I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again for storing it for me Mike!! And here's the pics.

Sam Mac 11-24-2013 03:28 PM

What they both said! Hope you can post some good pics of it. I want one even if I have to fab it up myself.

Do those have any type of lift setup or are they just fixed height? Love to see a good pic of how they hook up to the tractor and the mule drive. I do have a tractor to put it on, it would look good on this. :biggrin2:

juniors1282 11-24-2013 04:33 PM

Its fixed height Sam. PM me your email and I'll send you some more pictures of the mount and PTO set up.

I can only imagine the bill!!! Hehehe

Already asked Greg about cutting me a new center piece for the mule on the water jet!! He said drop it off and he'll get one cut. I told him to make three! Now I just need to find out about the other part for the PTO and have him cut it to.

cubcadet 11-24-2013 05:57 PM

lol, storage bill. will look great when restored:beerchug:

Can anyone explain why a front mounted deck would be desired? I am not being obtuse but genuinely trying to understand where it would be better than a mid mounted deck.:beerchug:

I can only speak for myself. I have a modified 50C deck of which I added bracing and front casters, that has added weight to the deck. As the older I get, I am finding it harder to install or remove the deck in a traditional way. Lately I have been jacking up the front of the tractor to handle the deck. Seems a front mounted deck would be a lot easier to install and do maintenance. Just my perspective.

Rudy

In my case I'd like a front mounted brush hog or flail mower.

Another benefit would be getting into some corners or tight spaces, you could push that deck right up to or even under something whereas a traditional under the machine deck wouldn't cut it. I bet you could even raise that front deck higher than a belly mower so you could potentially tackle some taller weeds/brush easier with it. :beerchug:

YUP...lots of additional benefits.

This is a homemade set up that one of our members bought.

R Bedell 11-26-2013 12:23 PM

All good pictures....It's giving me some ideas and thoughts.

Sam Mac 11-26-2013 12:23 PM

Something along these lines also has possibilities.

Sam beat me to the pics. I haven't had time to take better pics. Of the mule and mount on mine yet with all the weather we're having been pretty busy.

inspectorudy 11-27-2013 12:08 PM

I agree about removing and re-installing the deck. Man oh man, that is getting to be a bear of a job. I use the motorcycle lift that I bought from Harbor Freight ($59) to lift the front up but it is still back breaking. I thought if I got a JD with a shaft drive deck it would be a lot easier to remove and install the deck but I was wrong. It is different but it is still back breaking. I haven't seen the "Drive on" deck that they show on TV, in real life, but it looks a whole lot better than getting on your hands and knees.

Am I missing something in the pic?
Wouldn't that deck be running backwards?? :bigthink:

John

I think the belt needs to flip as it comes off the mule drive to reverse the rotation. If you look at the pulleys you'll see that they are aimed to do just that. The guy that sent me the pics had just bought this from a PO and wasn't sure how it all went together if I remember correctly.

darkminion_17 11-27-2013 02:54 PM

maybe the blades are different but is is turning backwards

J-Mech 11-27-2013 02:54 PM

AHHHH.... so the belt is set to criss/cross after the mule/before the deck. Yep, that'd work. :beerchug:

Yep the way it is in that pic the blades would be turning backwards. I'm pretty sure the belt just needed to criss cross. I'll e-mail both of you a higher rez pic so that you can see the pulleys on the mule drive better.

Please, and thank you. I do want to see that closer....... :bigthink:

Been doing a little research and found that Swisher used to make a front mounted mower for ATV's. Was able to download the manual from Northern Tool. This is the drawing of it. I just happen to have 2 of these but they are the tow behind but they look the same except that the tow behinds have rear wheels. I see no reason why I can't just fab up a mount to attach it to a mule drive and remove the rear wheels. :bigthink:

I remember that!
:OffTopic: But, when I was a young'un one of the four wheeler companies was offering a 4-wheeler with rear three point and maybe even a PTO... But I remember the ad's also showing that front mount mower. Can't find any pics, sorry. I'll keep lookin.

I'll admit that I haven't thought the whole thing through...YET. But installing a front deck (ie 50") is just in front of the tractor. Instead of the belt routing backwards....it goes forward. Blade rotation should be un-effected..???

It will be a while. I have a 1782 to go through first then an O that needs a little TLC. No heat in the shop and it's 20 degrees here at the moment.:biggrin2:

Correct me if Im wrong but mule pulley tension and rotation direction will be reversed and forward deck will end up spinning backwards unless belt gets crossed somehow to maintain the same direction as it would have being mid mount.
