So this past Saturday I retrieved this 127 as pictured. 375 miles one way and $137 in gasoline.
It had been listed on CL for two weeks or so with a phone number and "taking bids" in the description. Being it was 375 miles away, I did not bother to call. After 2 weeks he updated the ad with some more pictures. I then saw things I wanted to put on my unrestored, ugly but operational 127. So I then called and asked him what amount he was hoping for that would make him happy. He said $200 and I said sold, and I sent him a $50 deposit via paypal. I tried to get him to strap it to a pallet and drop it off at a Fastenal store about 8 miles from his house but he would not. So I spent all day on the road to go get it home. The reason for the $200 price is due to the new window in the engine block in behind the starter-generator. In case you ever wanted to know.....yes a 127 with 42" deck installed will fit into a first generation Tahoe!. But you have to remove the steering wheel. :biggrin2: |
Outstanding condition, worth the effort to bring her home.
Did she fume up the truck on the way home? :D |
I have no idea if there is any gas in it.
The oil was still dripping out at first. So I had the side window open for a few minutes. |
Congrats on the nice looking 127!Some very desirable options as well!:beerchug:

Nice looking machine. Even better that it has hydro. lift!
|
Nice score but hauling a tractor inside a car scares the H--L out of me.

Nice 127! Good luck with it.
|
Wow, that one is worth rebuilding an engine for.
Very nice! |
I will be doing some engine rearranging/swapping between the 127 I have that runs and a 126 that I have not yet had time to evaluate yet.
I will pull this windowed one and do a quick tear down before the power washing it got just before I picked it up does further damage inside. |
Wow you stole that . The paint looks great .:beerchug:

:HeadScratch::HeadScratch::HeadScratch: :HeadScratch:I'm in disbelief....how did you get it to fit? Where did the wife sit (on the roof?:biggrin2:)? How would you explain that to an officer if you were pulled over---"I saw him stranded along the road Occifer,.....uh Officer...:beer2:". I just don't believe it.......but I'm glad that you got it with great options!! Cub Cadet 123 |
Road trip worthy,.........
Nice grab on the IH Cub Cadet 127! Gee-wiz that was a good buy :biggrin2:

Nice Score!! Glad I have a pickup but it would have cost me $170 :beerchug:
|
That was a steal! That NF hydraulic lift is worth what you paid for the whole tractor, Gas money included! Nice score!
|
Heck of a deal! Great score & looks to be in mighty fine shape.
Yes, the deals are out there. Few & far between- but out there. I just love these stories. All the ones I have, were found just driving down the road.:beerchug: The ones I found on Craig's list just seem to be snatched up in a day or hours. NIK, |
Just the fact that you got the steering wheel off is a small miracle, nice tractor!:IH Trusted Hand:

Had to turn the fuel petcock off as the carb was dripping gas. Went and spent the night in a Motel Six. On the way home on the interstate in Virginia, got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding. Officer looks inside behind me twice, shakes his head and says he never seen that done before. Then he goes on to tell me that he grew up mowing lawns on a CC just like that. So while he is running my info in the squad, I am thinking woo hoo ! he is gonna see my clean record and give me a warning for sure!. Nope, the SOB gives me a ticket anyways. probably because his Daddy made him mow the lawn every Saturday before he could go goof off with his friends, LOL. |

I am thinking it went thru a restoration of some sorts within the past three or four years. Where the "LIFT" button/switch hole is on the dash there is a red indicator light. Is that correct or was that spot for the electric lift switch? |

I'm glad you got it Double07. That tractor was 10 miles from my house. I talked to him over the phone and did some texting. I couldn't believe the pictures of it on CL either. I knew the lights were worth $100, grill $50 and the lift pump around $300. I would of just dropped another K301 in it and had a very nice tractor. I also knew the wifey would be po'd at me for weeks if I brought another %#$& tractor home.:bash2:
Will the Fastenal stores ship that kind of stuff?:bigthink: |

Yea Fastenal gave me a price of $115 Woodstock store to Pensacola store. Had to be strapped onto a pallet bigger than the 127. I told them it was 700lbs worth. |

update:
So the engine in the 127 had this window. I have a running 127 with a black engine so a heart transplant was performed. I reused some of the engine sheetmetal cause I like yellow better than black. The newer engine head is different and so I had to use the black muffler hanging tin. Notice the muffler clamp.it is a two-piece 1.375" steel set collar. Just because I had one. I put one of those new aftermarket carbs on it too. I need to adjust the throttle cable cause it runs at mid range when throttle lever is on low. Other pictures show what it looked like under the fender-seat-footrest pan before and after I pushed and brushed off the build up of grass and dirt. I have yet to wash any of the tractor, what you see is unwashed. And I have yet to hit it anywhere with new paint. Is that level of hytran about right? I stuck a stick down to the bottom and moved it a bit to bring up sludge. There was some on about the last 1/4" of the stick. Rubbed it between the fingers to feel for grit and it was nice and slimey. I think the tranny trunnion thingy plate needs to be built up and reworked with straight edges around the spring and washers though. |
My 127 #2 has a pto engagement lever that you have to pull up to let go forward.
This 127 #3 (in the above pics) has a pto lever with a push button in the top end to let it go forward. Which one is the newer one? I am thinking #2 is newer as it also has a wiring harness with plastic insulated wires. With an IH part number label. 127 #3 has the cotton insulated wires. |
Never seen a K series knock that big of a hole in a block. Looks like a teaching aid for a high school shop class. You've gone this far, why don't you pull the rear end cover off and clean out the gunk? It's on my list of things to do for my 982.

Oh and when I had to get the steering wheel off to stuff it into my Tahoe......
I hit the nut offside and the nut tilted and wiped out hal a dozen threads on the steering shaft. So the nut would not go back on, not even dressing it up with a file and a new nut. So did you know the steering shaft tube is just the right size inside to be tapped for 10mm? Which allowed me to put some washers on the wheel around the shaft until I had more washers than shaft. Then a 10mm bolte into the shaft to secure the wheel. |
I did get a gallon of hytran, a filter and a gasket.
How much hytran does it take? |

Better get another gallon. |
Very nice 127. I have one but definitly not that nice!!
|
So I go to change the hytran filter...............
Old one is yellow with IH logo and part # Has $1.50 written on it with a sharpie pen. How old do you suppose the filter is, LOL? |
