O original color for front rim?

When I bead blasted my front rims off of my O I found that the color at the bottom was Yellow. There was a white layer on top of the yellow. I have never seen a picture of a O with yellow front rims.

Any Ideas?

Hmmm.

That IS interesting. I've not heard of that before but my experience is limited. I'm sure someone will chime in with some enlightenment.

Perhaps an industrial model? :biggrin2:

probably they where jd rims. about 4 or 5 years ago someone was selling brinly wheels that was an exact match to the cub wheels. you just had to change the bearings. I must have bought about 20 sets or more. I'm down to 2 . They came with tires also. They where cheap(price wise) They had the correct carlise straight rib replacement tires for the wide tires on the wf and nf cubs.
Do the wheels have grease fittings?

I believe these are the original rims for the O. The front tires were also original I believe. They were tough to get off but my mini tire changer did the trick. I don't know how I would have done it without it.

I never have seen yellow rims on an O. They where not original. They could have been put years ago.

It's possible that it could be a primer coat, or it was sent down the yellow paint line first then painted white.

I like your reply ending. Mine is, " If I can't fix it it's broke "
I like yours too. I might "borrow" it. :biggrin2:

Both rims had the tube rusted to the rim and one had bad rust around the hole where the valve stem goes. I cleaned it up and using body work methods I put new metal where the old valve hole used to be and drilled a new hole opposite. Sanded and primed and now it is ready for it's new coat of paint.

I'm thinking it was a fluke. Gonna go with white.

Interesting to see the front plate below grill is white...

Mine was painted yellow.. Like this one:

Looks like I will have to repaint it.

This might be of interest to you also. that front plate cover is part of the mower assembly and not the tractor itself. What I mean by that is the tractor did not come off the assembly line with the cover it came with the mower. this is the "Paint committee Decision" for the 38" mower. I am sorry it is small, I do not know how to embed the images in making them larger.

Wow, I hope your IH Cub Cadet Original turns out this good! Must be Saturday Evening Picture Show at Only Cub Cadets! I cannot believe how good, and how nice these Originals truly are!

Says Hood, seat, wheels, and screen are to be 901 Harvester White.

Foot rests, control knobs, implement grip, steering wheel are to be black.

The balance of tractor to be 483 Federal Yellow.

I have to agree that flukes happened as seen on my unmolested 72. Note the IH decal on the seat spring.

If the decal looks normal, turn me over!!! :biggrin2:

If you look you can see the gap between two metals running along your seat's upper edge. I filled in mine and smoothed it out to give a nice finished look. I know it was not original, but it bothered me that the factory didn't want to finish off the seat. I might wind up covering it all over with a seat cover. I have been thinking about making one that you can take on and off..

I finished refinishing the gearbox and rear end today and have the frame and drive line components and front axle already installed so I will marry the two soon... Nice not having to work with greasy components for a change..

Got a set of the old style Firestone's like yours for it as well and as close to original front tires also..
