Rescued a couple more
Picked up a 105 and an 800 Friday night after work. Had been emailing and texting a husband and wife that said these were in their horse pasture. I've been on the hunt for an 800 for a while. Spent almost 2 hours with my dad who was in town again to visit, digging them out and using my four wheeler and winch to get them plus cut a couple trees down that had grown in front of them. needless to say they are both pretty rough but 105 has hydraulic pump option and 800 has brinley adapter, spring assist and some weird wheel weights I haven't seen yet. Both supposedly ran 5 years ago but bummed that 800 is missing all the hard to find stuff. No muffler box, wrong muffler, no air cleaner, big starter, and no side panels BUT it is an 800 and is a start, always wanted a q/l and why not start with an 800. Was just after the 800 but ended up getting both for $350 so I think i did ok they have just sat under some trees for quite some time but i will see whats going on after i pressure wash them. The 105 deck is swiss cheese and both were sunk about 6 inches in the ground in the woods. I feel crazy sometimes justifying why I do this but then i come here and feel normal! Here's a couple pics, Mike

I think you did great.. I would have saved them myself.

Looks good Mike! Got some really nice options as well!:beerchug:

You did very well. They appear to be Kinda rough . Cool hydro lift . Must be really rare for fl . Too bad the 800 has no rare parts great score none the less:beerchug: really nice options too
|
Glad that you saved 2 more.....2 more that are certainly worth saving, too!!! You got them for a nice price and I bet that if you had a chance to do it again, you would and without reservation. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your work in progress.

Thanks Allen! |
That was a lot of work in two hours.
Wrestling them onto the traler sideways was not easy either. Glad u got them to a good home. How far did u have to travels? I wonder how many CC's come into FL via a relocating retiree from "up north" ? |
Good job rescuing these. BTDT and then put a lot of work into them. Glad two more found a home!
Hydraulic pump is a good find! Along with the hitch items. Those alone were worth the price. Regards, Chris |
Those are awesome finds! I have an 800 here that has the same issues (missing the hard to find parts) but its still a fun little tractor! Great job!

SWEET Alvy!
Have you named them yet? You KNOW what happens when you name them... :biggrin2: Looks good. |

Small update on the 800. Filed points, rebuilt carb, battery, fixed some wiring issues an got it running. ordered and installed some nice side panels for a good price considering some of the far out prices for roached out ones on flea bay,put in a couple new tie rod ends. Currently have steer column out because it real tough to turn. This one has sat out for a long time but I feel like its worth saving. Its full of bad PO mods but I'm slowly getting through them. Also ordered a quiet line muffler and am going to modify it to work. There's no way I'm paying 350 for one since the last one on eBay went for that much. It won't be perfect but none of mine are. Engine comes out tomorrow because clutch is stuck and won't release as is throw out bearing. Bought some metal to do cradle mod too, I like these gear drive quiet lines for sure. Pics to come.

Great score Mike!
Have 'em ready for the next show? (Jan?) :biggrin2: |

Thanks for the update Mike, Looking forward to pics

Got the engine out and clutch, ISO mounts bad, going to do cradle mod while it's out. Steering column rebuilt, ordered some parts from Patton acres that I needed. Got the clutch apart today, everything was seized but it will be good. Going to try to find another machine shop to turn my pressure plates since the one that has my 301 block from the 123 is too busy. Big bolt that goes in back of spring assist is half backed out and frozen, had to use heat to get the floor plate bolts out and looks like I will have to do the same with spring assist, just don't want to take temper out of spring but I kind of have no choice. Put cheapy muffler on k181 until I fab up my non 800 but quiet line muffler. And of course the best part is getting some time with Mikey who always loves "workin with daddy". Here's some pics

Very cool, a gear drive QL is something I've been wanting. Nice score, and good job so far. I believe the spring on your assist is the same used on the later front blades, in case you need one.

Very nice!
Ya know, with all that "time investment" that Mikey will have into this tractor, it'll be a real nail-biter when he asks, "Can I drive?!" Good on you! I think that EVERY boy needs to learn a little bit of mechanix. It helps them when they're older, and equipment seems to last longer under them! Keep us informed! |

Well just a small update, got parts in from Patton acres who are very fast and easy to deal with by the way. Rebuilt the clutch and did the cradle mod today, side panel thumbscrews, and new to me ISO mounts too. Welder got a workout too since my patience wore thin with backing out the siezed spring assist bolt so needless to say i had to weld a new 1/2 x13 nut and washer on it because the big adjuster screw snapped off inside the end of the spring. Thanks to mr. Christensen for the tech write up here, very helpful and this site has everything we need for our cubs. Engine is night and day difference now when it comes to movement and barely shakes compared to before, much better. I'm going to slowly fix everything and then tear it all down in a couple months for a refurb.

Man!
You'll have that up and running for the January show for sure! Looks great! |
Keep up the good work, and thanks for updating us!

I'm watching this closely as I've got a 1000 to work on later this winter. Looks like you are making great progress! It's great when you can involve the kids, too.

Thanks guys, im doing stuff here and there on it. its still pretty rough but it is finally starting and driving. The spring assist makes a big difference by just the feel, wish I had it on a couple Of my other ones. I bought an IH cub muffler and received it yesterday, not sure what series it's off of but looks like it might be a quiet line, its big! It fits horizontally up front right behind the grill screen so I am going to fab up some mounts and put it in there, its going to make it very quiet I'm sure. Anyone know if this is a quiet line muffler? Again i know its not and 800 muffler but scarce isnt even close to describing them. Here is the link

That's a QL muffler. I wish I saw it before the auction ended. I need 2.

It's been a while since I posted on the 800 but I made some progress on the rear fenders. They were rotted in a few areas and the battery tray was very roached. I filled some areas with weld that would take it and today I cut out some bad areas, made some patches and welded in. Also cut out battery tray, made a new one and welded it in. Got a bunch of grinding to do and more filler. Going to take Dougs advice and use the type of primer he recommended. It's coming along, quite a few hours in this one but I'm wanting to do it slowly.
