Picked up my free Haban Cickle Bar Mower today...

I didn't realize how heavy it would be. But since it was being given to me I wrestled the thing on the trailer by myself. I seems complete but I am not sure. I don't know how it hooks up. I can see how it is powered off the Cub but other than that I don't know. Is there any literature on hooking them up?

That's a heck of a deal for a Haban!
Looks like it is missing the blade guard and belt guard but those are no big deal. I also don't see the axle straps either.

Alvy 12-27-2013 02:28 PM

That's really cool and an awesome score for being free. Good job, interesting to see what you plan on putting it on.

I wonder were I can get a photo of the straps I need and how in general the mower mounts. I assume the long pole runs to the back of the tractor and attached to the rear axle somehow. I will need to see how it attaches to the front also. I have never seen on mounter to go by.

Cubcrazy 12-27-2013 02:35 PM

I think I have a pic of the axle straps. I will look to see if I can find it.
I might have a manual somewhere too.

Cubcrazy 12-27-2013 02:37 PM

The long pole runs back under the tractor and hooks to the hitch plate with a pin and cotter.

Sent you a PM John.
Is yours a 402D?

That would be great. It looks like it would be easy to make them. I see where the attachment points on the mower are.

Cubcrazy 12-27-2013 03:12 PM

They are about 4" long x 2-3/4" wide x 1/4" thick. You can see in the pic that they are notched at the top too.
The holes are 1/2" in diameter also.
Hope this helps.
PM me your email address John and I will send the manual.

Nice score on the Sickle bar mower.
Is the bar seized up?

My straps do not look like yours Mike. Mine is a 402 D

OldAndInTheWay 12-27-2013 06:35 PM

I find that if I bring it up that I have yellow fever I get people giving me stuff. Besides the mower, I have had 3 Cubs given to me and I have picked up a lot of extras just by asking if anything might go with the tractor. Doesn't hurt to bring it up when you meet people.. :beerchug:

Some must think I am crazy and I can see that sometimes they think I am a little daft, their eyes just glaze over and move a little away in case it rubs off...:biggrin2:

Nice find

Congrats on the sickle bar mower. Nice find.

BE VERY CAREFUL when you pick up the sickle bar. The cutter bar can move downward when you raise the whole thing up, and if you have fingers in there between the blades and the guards you are in trouble. My experience with them is when it drops it drops all the way.

My .02 cents worth.

Wow! What a find! I've always been keeping an eye out for that kind of stuff. But I've never seem something that good for free.

Cub Cadet 123 12-27-2013 08:30 PM

Congratulations on an excellent find! I don't see those in my neck of the woods very much at all, and definitely not for the same deal that you got. I hope you took the fella out for a steak dinner.

I do the same thing! And that response is common on my end too! At Christmas, my brothers (I have 4) wouldn't quit giving me a hard time about my "addiction". My brothers wife actually growled at me the other day because he is catching the "bug". My other brother, after I showed him my newly running 125 decided he wanted it for himself. Told him I need it for this year, but by next winter I might be interested in "selling" it to him! I kind of think it's funny when someone gets "bitten by the bug". LOL! :beerchug:

That's not a joke! Thats the very first thing my Granddad taught me when I first started running a sickle bar mowing hay. I know a lady who did have the end of her finger cut off by one. Open your hand up, don't grab the bar, and keep your fingers to the rear of the bar when folding!! Good advice Dave!

hdsdcouple 12-28-2013 06:33 AM

heavy welding gloves, and 1/4 leather are what I use when moving mine around. wrap the bar in the heavy leather and have the gloves on. a good air condition installer can make you a cover real cheap, well cheaper than losing a finger. I went to the scrap yard and found some lite weight metal and just hammered me one out, was ugly but worked

I checked out the 402E today Lew and the brackets look like yours. They aren't notched so I'm guessing the PO of my 402D maybe notched them to possibly fit better to the front axle?:bigthink:

Nice sickle bar I think your going to have to add training wheels to keep from tipping over.:biggrin2:
