all you guys that have the skinny tri ribs, can you tell me where is a good place to buy them and what brand do you all have?....i found the deestones on ebay but not sure if they are good tires or not.....thanks alot

Merk 02-04-2010 08:31 PM

I have 2 different styles tri ribs.

Deerstone tires:

Notice the center rib is wider. This tire was purchase from Miller tire at a tractor show:

This is the other style tri rib that is on my 149
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...de/rib0108.jpg
All 3 ribs are the same width. The name on the side of this tire is GBC. This tire was purchase on ebay.

Both tires are good handling-steering tires. Neither tire is hard on the lawn.

Dieseldog....I got my Deestones at a small engine show--brand new tires already mounted on brand new rims with new bushings----2/$100. Sorry, but I don't know the vendor, sorry. I can tell you that I like them a lot better than the wide ones that were on there. In fact all of my cubs now have narrow tires on the front!!

Merc, are the GBC tires the ones that Tucker Tire sells??

jeffb 02-04-2010 08:55 PM

Merk,

Are the ones from Miller the Greenball brand they have listed under the pulling category? They are nice looking and wouldn't mind a set myself. I just want to make sure I order the right ones.

I'm not sure those are the same ones. I purchase the my tires from Miller Tire at a show.

Both sets of tires are 4-5 years old. Best thing to to is go to dealer or get a picture of the tires.

I got my 4 x 8 tri ribs from smalltires.com. They are Deestones and cost $21 each plus shipping. I also got the tubes from them at just under $6 each.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I just bought a set of narrow wheels for my 1450, and have some 4.00-8 tri ribs on order. I need to make my Cub narrower to fit though a gate, but I assumed I would have to put up with poor flotation, etc in a trade off compared to the stock 16x6.50-8 tires.

Cub Cadet 123, I'm curious, why do you actually prefer the narrower tires?

Miller IMO is the place to buy CC tires.

That's who I ordered the tri ribs from. They have been extremely helpful, and I found out they have a distributor in Calgary. It would be better near Edmonton, but Cowtown will do. :-)

So aside from reducing the width of the machine, is there any other advantages of the 4.00/4.80x8 tires?

Lincolnmania 08-17-2013 03:40 AM

they are cheaper

I think they go better in snow and mud! They kind of cut through instead of sliding like the wider ones tend to do.

Yosemite Sam 08-18-2013 03:07 AM

They do have a lot better traction on the snow.

They also make turning the steering wheel SO much easier.

Anybody know where I can get the narrow rims? And would they come with the bearings in? Thanks!

I have had bought parts from OCC sponsor Cub Cadet Classics, out of Landcaster, Ohio. Chris Westfall is the owner/operator. He will set you up with good-used rims, or new rims!

84Buckeye 10-06-2013 08:54 PM

Thanks John!

Sorry Charlie...I didn't subscribe to this thread and have lost touch with it, so I missed your question. As others have mentioned, they cut the snow and mud a lot better (like the model T's tires cut through the dirt roads and snow covered roads) and their footprint (the Deestones) have a footprint that is only about 1 1/2 " x 3/4", which means less surface for friction and a lot easier turning/steering....as was already mentioned. I just got another pair mounted on my painted rims the other day. I will try to post a picture of the footprint soon if I can, but tomorrow is another 16-18hr work day so it may take a day or two. Like Merk, I got mine at a show 2/$50.

You bet! Of course you could try placing a front rim ad in the "wanted" section of the forum. Its possible in Ohio to find them for sale from OCC members.

I think Miller Tire has rims too. I saw them at a show and bought bearings from them also. Mike

These are my new tri ribs that I just put on a recently painted set of rims. I tried to get a picture of the small footprint they have and why they are so easy to steer.
