red56turbo 02-13-2014 10:30 AM

Yosemite Sam 02-13-2014 12:20 PM

I feel for you guys who are getting hammered.

Please, everyone be careful.

I wish you all the best with utilities and such things.

drglinski 02-13-2014 12:30 PM

Welcome to winter! Us northerners have been dealing with this stuff since November. I can't remember the last time I saw grass that wasn't rolling off a freshly plowed hill of snow.

cubs-n-bxrs 02-13-2014 12:33 PM

Dang we are getting shorted on the snowfall here in Central NY. Only suppose to get 3-6" of snow. :beerchug:

Sam Mac 02-13-2014 12:35 PM

I guess we shouldn't complain about what we are getting, check this out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5waS...=youtube_gdata

it happened last Sunday in a small valley about 20 km west of Sterzing (border between Italy and Austria)

DoubleO7 02-13-2014 01:02 PM

You guys are so lucky!
Here is how ill equipped we are:
This is the I-10 bridge over Pensacola Bay a week or two ago when we got 1/4 to 3/8" ice storm and dusting of snow.
They closed the bridge and 160 miles of I-10 for two full days.
No salt, no sand, no belly blade trucks to deal with this.

Not a car to be seen!

sawdustdad 02-13-2014 01:48 PM

We had about 8-10 inches early this am, but the rain has caused it to turn into 5-6 inches of slush. I just came in from plowing the 3/4 mile of lane and 10 driveways in our development. Took about 90 minutes. Now I'm glad I put the chains on the Ford, 5 inches of slush is heavy. It's 35 and raining a little now. Didn't get a chance to use the snowthrower on the 1450.:(

OldAndInTheWay 02-13-2014 02:00 PM

Very light now but is supposed to pick up again with winds and drifting.

Unless I miscounted, it is day 60 of snow cover here in the Greater Cleveland, OH area.

"Snow cover" is defined as 2+" of snow on the ground.

Hey, Al "I invented the Internet" Gore, where the heck is all your global warming ? ? ? ? :bash2:

Back to the original question of want some snow? Not just NO!, but (colorful language deleted) NO!

Guys

I think I'm back up north. Haven't had to deal with snow like this for a while. I am glad I kept my snow weapon when I moved to nice warm VA. Here are some pics of the fun I had today. Just FYI the blade is 24" tall. Not sure a blower would have not been a plug fest. Just damp enough to be a PITA. Glad I learned how to deal with this crap from my NE days. Only clean pavement in town is in front of my driveway LOL. Poor little Bota sucked up a 1/2 tank of diesel :biggrin2:

Sam, you asked for this. "Bring it on" I think were your actual words.

We had some thunder this afternoon with sleet. Always sounds funny to get thunder when it's snowing.

Cleared over a mile of road today if I count all the driveways.

I'm in Galax. My place is 3 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I've had to deal with worse back in the day when I lived in CT.

I'll do a final clean up tomorrow when it stops blowing.

Kind of enjoyed some quality seat time. :beerchug:

sawdustdad 02-13-2014 05:39 PM

You definitely got hammered, Sam. We'd have gotten more if it hadn't turned to rain. What we have is very heavy slush/ice now. Posted some pics to my earlier post.

EricR 02-13-2014 05:54 PM

We got between 6 and 7 inches so far and it's still snowing like crazy and they say we could get up to 4 more inches but it's not so cold so I ain't complaining.

Mike we have about 9 inches in total but it has compacted a lot in the week or so.

Sam Mac 02-13-2014 06:14 PM

Guys I enjoyed it kind of like the good old days in CT, I if I need to deal with it at least make it worth my while. The way it's drifting at the moment It may be entertaining tomorrow. BTDT. Good seat time anyway you look at it, I had fun, hope you other guys did also.

Blue Grass Heaven and heaven on earth. Looks like it does here in the northern Shenandoah Valley. I am close to the start of the Skyline Drive.

Sounds like a nice trip on the bike come springtime. I'm 4 miles from the exit of the Blue Ridge Parkway exit for route 89 to Galax. MC nirvana. Pic is the Lazy Boy on wheels. If I want a little more fun I ride the second one.

ACecil 02-13-2014 08:10 PM

Great actions shots, guys! We probably had the best snow of the season, and I missed playing in it.

Looks like fun Sam:biggrin2: Actually the snow thrower was working really well, throwing about 15-20 feet, until the PTO fuse went, replaced, then the old rotten belt fell apart:bash2: So out with the Ford 1720.

jimbob200521 02-14-2014 01:41 PM

It always makes me nervous when the city gets the big stuff out to prepare for more snow, makes me feel like they know something I don't :biggrin2: Here's a quick video of our cities local big boy for snow removal, of course I caught it after it got through the thick fun stuff but still, cool to see none-the-less. It's a completely self-enclosed, mounted snow blower for a big John Deere, or Cat, or anything similar. Hook it up where the bucket goes, turn it on, and blow baby blow!
