Magnetic Drain Plugs
I am hoping to make a few minor adjustments / upgrades for my 782. One of those, due to the age of the machine, is I would like to get a magnetic drain plug for both the engine as well as the transmission. Some may consider this overkill, but when you don't have the money to replace it or have a large repair bill of some sort, I consider this the same as preventative maintenance.
I know this topic has been discussed somewhere in this forum, but for the life of me, I cannot locate it. And to think I thought I even saved those threads and still can't find them...ugh. With that being said, if anyone would be willing to help me with the size of both and a purchase location, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time and consideration. Aaron |
Every time I build a hydraulic machine (woodsplitter etc,,,, :bigthink:) I add a large magnet to the inside of the hydraulic tank.

You can take the old drain plug with you to a real auto parts store and they will fix you up with a magnetic drain plug. Most of the better counterpersons will know the thread when they see it. If not, they have thread size checkers. You will be in and out in under 10 minutes.

There is even a YouTube video showing the results of adding a magnet!

Just about the only thing that fails in the engine is a rod. It's aluminum.......

Have a sonicare toothbrush? I pop the neodymium magnets off before I throw out an old brush head because I save everything (drives my wife nuts). I would think you could super glue/epoxy one of these to your drain plug. They are sticky little suckers so the glue may be overkill on a steel plug. I haven't tried this and someone may give a good reason to never try it, just an idea.

Now we need someone to recommend an oil filter magnet.
I noticed they have a magnet you can drop into the filter! :bigthink: |
A quick fix might be to just put flat magnets on the exterior of the oil pan where space will accommodate them. This would depend on the strength of your magnet, though.
