Haban Sickle Bar Mower on a 1641
 

As some of you guys know I picked up a Haban Sickle bar mower along with a 149 and a tiller.

Well the 149 is up and running and it will live with the tiller. So now it's time to see what I can do with the sickle bar mower. It's sitting under my 1641 getting the mounts figured out. Sorry no pics just yet, stay tuned. :beerchug:

sounds like a fun project. my only concern would be, seeing as there is no "ease" to the PTO on and off like an older mechanical PTO, if the sudden jerk of the pto being kicked on will snap the bolts from the pitman arm to the sickle section....i could be over thinking it but thatd be my only concern. seen it happen before! lol

either way it looks to be a good project.

Oh so Jealous, Really needing a sickle. I am in for pics as well.

Got the mount fabed up. Hooked it up and it runs. I can engage the PTO at idle so I don't think that will be an issue. Still need to build the rear mount. All in all with a little tweaking I think it will be a cool thing to have. I did make sure I didn't hack up the Haban mower just incase I ever want to sell it. Just cut up a mule for a Cyclops that I had. :beerchug:

I thought the mower was supposed to flex below straight out? Does it not? Or is there something that can be adjusted so it will? :bigthink:

It will go below level. Just the way it's sitting in the pic. I'm looking forward to cutting around my pond with it. If it works it will beat the weed wacker.

can you get cutting knives for it yet?

I think I can but not sure. My stuff looks pretty good. I think they can be sharpened. I'll post more when I know for sure and after I use it.

Knives should be easy......now gaurds, that's a different story. I think all knife mounting is the same, just length is different.

The Haban is looking good.

Regular IH knives will work. Shoot, most are probably universal and any replacement knife should work. The holes may need to be moved. I do know when I had my Haban, other Haban owners got replacements from IH.

Well this thing is AWESOME! Just played with it for a little while. It will cut through a 1" pine tree like it's not even there. Cleaned up some brush and briers along my driveway then a little around my pond and some crap around the shop. Now I'm looking at how to hook up hydraulics to it. Sorry only got a couple pics, I was having too much fun. Looks like the Sthil brush cutter is getting retired. :beerchug:

Sickle bar mowers are great! They leave such a clean cut. :beerchug:

All I can say is it's much better than swinging a brush cutter for hours. I'm all about sitting on my butt letting the tractor do the work. Wish I had one of these things years ago. Still need to tidy it up a bit but I'm a happy camper. :beerchug:

Yeah I know...... Even fingers that get in the way when folding them up...
I never did that, but that was the first thing we were taught when folding the big one we used to cut hay. The way they are designed, the sick moves when you fold them up, and we were taught to fold it from the back of the bar, with an open hand. I knew someone that cut their finger off in one. :bigeyes:

Thanks for the warnings guys. I like having all 10 digits attached. Reminds me of the MSHA safety training we used to do when I was in the quarry biz.

Just make sure you keep EVERYTHING moving lubed up good. I don't know about yours, but on my 402-D it seems like after 30 minutes or so I need to re-lube the bar up with a spray fluid.

This one sat for a long time so I poured some chain saw bar oil on it. seemed to reduce the shaking but as you said after a while it started shaking again. Guess I better stock up on oil. :biggrin2:

Fluid film is your friend.
