Got Ammo ?
okay who's hoarding ?
any 22 lr out there ? in the US |
Ah, good luck with that. When you do find them, they went from 2 cents up to 7 cents, guy can't have any fun anymore:bash2:
Welcome to America! |
Ammo around here is still hard to come by. :(
|
I could always use more. :biggrin2:
|
I can't find 357 sig hollowpoint nowhere.
|
This is the biggest reason I sold my .22; ammo around here was, and still is, impossible to find.
|
Doesn't seem too hard up here, and am wondering what's going on down there in the US. hoarders?
I just picked up some .22 yellow jackets and 3 boxes of Winchester .270WSM over the weekend. No problems. What's happening down there? |

I'm glad I don't need any .22 shells. Bought a bunch a loooooong time ago, when they were cheap! :biggrin2:
Did have a pistol stolen from the shop last week though...... only thing they took. |
Jenn has plenty of ammo for her Glock. :beerchug:

And my father-law dumped his when he says the Canadian government placed liability laws on homeowners that if their guns were used illegally by those that stole your guns. I can't say true or false but that is the reason he gave me for getting rid of them. |
Is this a can of worms that we really want opened??
Be thankful you don't live in NY. My 60 year old 22 is considered an "Assault rifle" since it holds more than 8 rounds. |
I was able to buy 1000rds of .22LR HP (just happened to be) from a member at a different forum that was being VERY nice. I gave him $.10/rd + shipping, which is what he paid. Other calibers are usually in the stores around here, but still stupid expensive.
The best thing to do is to try to trade with people if you're in need. If only I had a pallet of 5.45x39 right about now... |
22's are easy to get around these parts. But prices ======:bash2:
I'm well supplied with 22's long before the hoarding started, & when it did I just chuckled.:biggrin2: I also do my own re-loading. 38, & 357 45, 308, 223, I can knock out about 600rnds., an hour with precision powder drop with My Dillon 550 progressive press ( I like to shoot ALOT) Gave up a few different calibers since I sold dem dere guns. & my friends 30/06. Well he use's my set-up & he re-loads. NIK, |

I've heard that ammo was drying up but I had no idea that you couldn't get 22 longs anywhere... That's just stupid!
On the other side of the coin, it can't be too hard to find if you know where to look, I'm pretty sure the criminals have all they need. |

Americans with guns are Americas worst enemy Those are my thoughts and I know a few Australians who also are of the same opinion Oz |
:BlahBlah:
 |
Meanwhile the ammo companies are getting stupid rich on our fears of supposed ammo shortages.

Here are some facts; http://www.gunsandcrime.org/faildxprmt.pdf -------------------or-------------------- http://www.captainsjournal.com/2012/...ies-and-brits/ Interesting reads?:bigthink: :beatdeadhorse: Hope this one doesn't go bonkers. Nik, I'll stick to a copy & paste from the 1st. paragraph in the second read. Actually, if the Australian Bureau of Criminology can be believed, Americans would be insane to concern themselves with what non-Americans think about American gun rights. THE END, now back to AMMO. |
Well said Nik. For the purpose of avoiding any "political chat", I'll leave it at that. :beerchug:
Here's the part on the ammo I don't get. Why .22LR's? Why is that particular round now so expensive and hard to get? Got to be the most widely used, and cheap to manufacture. Not saying that the bigger rounds aren't out of control on cost.... but you can reload a center-fire primer style. Can you reload a rim-fire cartridge? :bigthink: |
Quote:
Yup, ammo here is hard to get also... guess I better stop plinking with the .22 though and just shoot gofers! :biggrin2: |
Guess I haven't been ammo shopping in a while:bigthink: I got a few bricks of 22 lr blazers a few years ago and it's been plenty with the old Remington 580 single shot ( best 22 rifle I've ever owned) glad I sold the semi auto, could burn a brick in an afternoon with that thing, lol.

“Everybody is loading rimfire (22) as fast as they can with the machines they have,” he said. “The problem is, the margins on rimfire are so low it doesn’t make sense to invest in new equipment and expand production. We’ll catch up eventually.” They will only catch up if the hoarders, speculators and flippers slack off on buying it all. |

1 - Practically everyone that owns a firearm owns a .22LR making it the most popular round in the country. Demand is fairly high during normal times. 2 - The firearms ownership rate is exploding and lots of those new shooters are buying .22LR weapons further stressing supply. Many new shooters also aren't aware of normal costs for ammunition so they're buying up even the really expensive stuff thinking its normal. 3 - NO ONE expected a .22LR shortage, ever. Even in our darkest times of supply .22LR was always around in the past. So even the people that like to have 10k rounds or more of every caliber on hand never bothered to stock pile .22LR. Now they've become hoarders and are buying literally everything they can find. 4 - Assorted conspiracy theories... :BlahBlah: Rim-fire is just about impossible to reload because you can't "un-strike" (?) the rim the way you can simply push a used primer out of a center fire. I would imagine you'd have to cast your own bullets too since they are probably not manufactured in excess numbers vs. brass like something like .223 or .45acp is. The primer compound is also unique and unavailable. Here's a really cool video of of the CCI factory making .22LR if you want to see how the pros do it. It's not really a practical DIY situation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5qMsmucXhI |
I don't have a .22, I have a 25-20. Slightly more difficult.
|
We have a local store that has plenty of ammo. You are just only allowed 1-2 boxes of each a day. 22lr is 8.99 for 100. That is the cheapest per round. I do not think they ship, but it is Larry's Pistol and pawn.
|
Another tough to find round is 35. Bought a new one in march and paid 38 bucks for a box of ammo! YEESH!!!!!
|
I actually have quite a bit of 22 LR but it is from the early 70's 79 cents a box , I am still shooting it with 5% dud rate .
I bought a box of 50 HP for $3 in 2012 at wally world and have enough 9mm if I give up practice it can be spotty too. |

Out of curiosity. how have you been storing that .22 from the 70s? Just in cardboard boxes on a shelf somewhere? |

And my family saves all those desiccant packets that come in various food and electronic products. I toss a few of those into each ammo box. |
Same thing I'm doing then (I buy new desiccant though). Hopefully anything I have in 40 years will still be good! :)
|
So last Saturday I bought the last box of Winchester Accubond in 270WSM at $32.00. They ordered me 3 more boxes as I have a new scope for the Sako to sight in for long range, just got the call today that they are $59.00 for the box of 20. Holy smokes.
So I guess it's gonna be the same up here too. Darn. |
