Latest Ebay Scam

well here we go again, as if Ebay didn't already suck.

The latest rounds of changes to the Nazi Ebay has come. Now they are charging you final value fees on shipping. that's right they get there 10% on the sell of the item, which is high in the first place. But now they are taking an additional 10% on what you charge for shipping. WTF ? and on top they take another 5% on Paypal. they managed to sneak that in on people. Think it is time for my just to start chunking my crap in the garbage. cheaper that way. What a rip off

I sold a Tiller for a Montgomery Wards tractor on Ebay. sold it for $200 and Fastenal shipping was $125. Ebay took $20 from the sale of the tiller and then 12.50 from the shipping and 9.73 from paypal. It cost me $42.25 to sell the tiller should have just scrapped it.

Epay strikes again!

drglinski 07-09-2014 07:09 AM

I agree. I sold a bike on Ebay and couldn't believe how much went to them just for "fees."

Oak 07-09-2014 07:09 AM

I never sold anything on Ebay but I'm pretty sure scrap pays about $9 per 100 lbs here in GA. I put my stuff on CL cause I'm cheap and like meeting some strange people.:biggrin2:

I hear that, there been a few times ive been out picking up tractors for work or myself and i was sure glad i had my gun on me. Theres some real crazies out there.:biggrin2:

Rescue11 07-09-2014 09:16 AM

Y'all r nuts, I get my fill of crazies just going to work! All those fees remind me of one particular bank in town. They will charge a 50 cent fee per roll of change, a roll of pennies worth 50¢… so 1.00 to get a roll of pennies.

Ebay... hope it bites them n the butt

sounds Good to me

I have never bought or sold anything on Flea Bay but I do contact the sellers if I can figure out how to and then buy stuff directly otherwise it C-List time.

I have a small eBay business (not in cub parts) and I don't mind the fees. It is just a cost of doing business. The paypal fee is only $0.30 + 2.9%. The eBay final value fee hasn't gone up recently as far as I know, and it is only fair to charge it on shipping as well as the purchase price because otherwise people will overcharge for shipping and undercharge on the "purchase price" to avoid the fee.

I noticed the change to have ebay take a bite of your shipping money too last week when I sold a broken laptop. My opinion is the sellers did this to themselves by selling something for $1 and charging $25 on shipping trying to "work the system". I'm shocked it too this long for ebay to "correct" that.

My solution was simple, I inflated my shipping charges to cover the additional ebay fees. No more "actual shipping" from me. Everything gets priced USPS flat rate + a couple extra bucks.

As far as email addresses on ebay go, it's pretty easy to work around it with a few asterisks or whatever. Email me at ma**xwelhse, etc..

I buy on CL a lot, but rarely sell unless its something where I can meet someone somewhere. The fewer random strangers that just show up at my house, the better. A friend of mine just won't learn his lesson and keeps selling stuff to morons that go out and break it in 2 days and then he takes it back because he's afraid they're going to burn his house down or something. He's had that problem 3 different times now over the past 2-3 years.

I've been on ebay for 15 years and have had 3 problems, TOTAL, that couldn't get fixed.

If im selling i dont mind having people come to my house, ive never had anyboby come back trying to return stuff and anytime i sell something with a serial number i always right up a bill of sale saying "as is" and have them sign it. The only time ive ever had anybody come back was a guy i sold a 127 to, he called me up 2 year later cause the motor went and he hauled it to my house and i got paid to rebuild the engine.:biggrin2:

Maxwelhse 07-09-2014 07:13 PM

It could have something to do with the people my friend sells stuff too... In either event, I'm paranoid and basically keep to myself out in the "real world".

Any time someone has come here to buy something the deal is done in the driveway and whatever it is sitting there waiting for them. I don't even open the garage door.

Ha! We do have our unsavory characters but I think just about everywhere does.

They just had their 100th anniversary the other day! The owner passed away a few years ago and now their kids are running it. They advanced technology and now have a CREDIT CARD machine! :) Still the same bottled cokes and same hot dog grill though.

For those not in "the know"...

Or ANYWHERE... I haven't been in several years but I think I'm due. It's always a tough call between Powers and CI when I'm downtown. Might have to get a couple of huge sacks of both.

And a big pack of Charmin..
