started cleaning it up a little...FILTHY!!!
not kidding when I said I didn't even really want it though..i went looking for parts for my 147 (fenders, carb, and some other odds/ends)
it just seemed to nice/complete to leave behind..plans are to sell or trade it for a 1x7

I usually stop at the self service car wash and give them a bath before I bring home a dirty one.
Does it turn over easy by hand with compression?

If you decide to sell it I'll be happy to make a offer,

Alvy 07-12-2014 09:04 PM

I really have to move to PA. Congrats on the 128, honestly looks like its cleaning up well, great score.

reburg 07-12-2014 09:10 PM

engine turns, feels as though it has compression (not really any harder or easier than my 10 and 14hp kohlers)
one thing though is it won't roll..dunno why I can't get the rear to release or if the brakes are just stuck at the moment..is there a trick to this?
all my other cubs are hydro..so this is new to me

Alvy 07-12-2014 09:19 PM

A few things that come to mind, stuck brakes, transmission not in neutral (I know but I have to say it), transmission messed up internally or seized bearing.

Maxwelhse 07-12-2014 09:20 PM

If its out of gear and the brakes aren't locked (at the peddle) it should roll if its in N like any other manual tranny. N will be really obvious by shifter feel.

If you are lucky the brakes are seized.

Looks like the brake peddle is all the way "to the wood" in the pictures so you may luck out. Pick it up manually and see what happens.

edit: derrr... I originally mentioned clutch but that shouldn't matter...

If you are lucky the brakes are seized. Slightly less lucky? The clutch is completely roasted. It gets worse from there (IMO).

Don't think it will be clutch issue, drive shaft doesnt spin in neutral when pushed. Yup, just saw pedal locked down too, probably start there

Maxwelhse 07-12-2014 09:24 PM

You slightly beat me to myself. :) Thanks for the correction.

edit again: Could a blown up clutch hold the brake linkage down though?

reburg 07-12-2014 09:31 PM

pedal up or down, doesn't make a difference..shifter FEELS like it's in neutral..gonna look deeper into it next week..i'll be too busy at work for the next few days to bother with it
assuming I don't get rid of it in the meantime

It looks like you are into the NF's especially the specific late 60's early 70's hydro series pretty well. I will say you might want to give it some time, and that I was in the same boat, got a 108, wasn't a fan of the different styling and features, wide frame,at first, but they will grow on you quickly. It can be your black sheep tractor, I say keep it, Looks good.

darkminion_17 07-12-2014 10:01 PM

Your brake setup should be like mine, external brakes and disc on the axles, maybe they are rusted to the pads, few wacks with a LBFH and it may free it up,otherwise the linkage that runs through the front of the tranny is froze up where it passes through the gear reduction housing

ACecil 07-12-2014 10:17 PM

Glad you saved the 128. :beerchug:

reburg 07-12-2014 10:39 PM

was bored so I went out with a flashlight and a baby sledge...few taps on the brakes (made sure the linkages were moving free first) and it was rollin

reburg 07-17-2014 01:22 PM

gonna go out and maybe tinker a little more with it today, and get it listed for sale or trade!
