First that I heard or aware of this type of issue.

I am wondering if there is something (virus or malware) issue that your PC picked and causing a "cookie problem".

I am unaware of anything on OCC's end to generate this condition.

Sam Mac 07-14-2014 07:39 AM

Todd

Did you try deleting your browsing history? I'm not having any problems here. You may want to get in touch with member j4c11, he seems to be very sharp when it comes to computer issues.

Hello sir,

Unless someone is monkeying with your session server side, this is going to be a cookie issue. That means you need to clear your cookies. If you can let us know what browser and operating system you're using , we can maybe give you specific instructions. This link contains instructions for all major browsers out there on Windows. If you are running OS X , I can provide instructions for that, it is near and dear to my heart :-)

You had to re-register or just log in again? It looks like you're under the same profile as always so I'm confused.

Occasionally the forum asks me to log in. No big deal. How often is it happening?

That's it, log in. Sorry my bad.
Every time I turn on the puter I need to log in. Let me explain better than maybe someone can help out this computer genius.:biggrin2:
On my pc I have OCC as my home page. I never have to log in, just start up and we're there.
Now with this "new used" laptop every time I go on OCC I need to log in. When I do it asks if I want to save, I check yes, but it won't do it.
Other sites that I visit, after the initial (first) log in, that was it, not asked again.
Any suggestions? It's not a life or death thing, just a pain in the arss every time.:bigthink:
(I bet it'll be something simple)

jimbob200521 07-15-2014 07:44 AM

When you type your log in information, is there a check box next to where you put your username and password that says "Remember Me"? Having your computer save a password for you is different than having the site remember you :beerchug:

Is this the page you have to log into every time you open up OCC?

Yes. And I do check the box every time, but the next time I come on I need to do it all over again.

Maxwelhse 07-15-2014 09:29 PM

It sounds like a cookie issues (not the kind you eat :) )

What web browser are you using?

What operating system are you using? Win 7 ?

I had to add to this website to "trusted sites" to keep from logging in every time.

Correct, Win. 7.
How do you add to "trusted sites"?

No it is not.:BangPC: or should I say:bash2:

We'll need to know what browser you're using too.

Fear not. This CAN be fixed. :)

It's explorer.
It's the same as my pc, because I can't deal with change. See I have no trouble with it. (pc)
I bought this laptop from my cousin cause he upgraded and I got it dirt cheep, and have wanted something I could take out to the shop with me.
He took it in to a computer friend of his who cleaned it and put in a bigger something or nother for me so I had a lot of room for pictures....
So when he brought it over I told him to make it work like my other one, so yes it's explorer.

Maxwelhse 07-16-2014 01:05 AM

Give this a shot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGlngRZq3Ns

You'll want to add

http://onlycubcadets.net/

and

http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/

as trusted sites.

If that doesn't work, we'll peel another layer of your PC onion. Am i correct to assume that your laptop has NEVER worked as you desired on this site?

Yes, correct. But the other forums where it's needed to log in, I did it one time and done, but not here.
I'll have to check out the youtube tomorrow, wife is sleeping and I DON'T WANT THE BEAR in her coming out at midnight:biggrin2:
Thanks for the help.

Maxwelhse 07-16-2014 01:24 AM

No problem at all. I hope it works out well for you! :)

If it don't, we'll dig deeper. If push comes to shove mail it to me and I'll get it running right. I've been into PCs for 23 years now and I haven't backed down from a challenge yet! :)

Well I tried the youtube instructions, still the same thing. I need to log in each time I open with the OCC site. No big deal.
All I have to do is type the z and the user name and password come up. Then I check the box for remember me, and I 'm in, but it still don't remember me, I guess I'm a forgettable person:biggrin2:
Thanks for your help though.

Maxwelhse 07-17-2014 02:47 AM

If you want it fixed, we can beat it! :BangPC:

Time for more shovel...

OK.. This is when things get deeper. I'm not a regular Internet Explorer user so I'm sort of winging it here...

We're going to attempt to delete the cookie for this forum from your internet history and ONLY this cookie (so it doesn't screw up a ton of other sites you like to visit). The cookie should automatically update but for some reason its sounds like its not. Maybe the cookie is corrupted?

Depending on your version of IE, you're going to want to click the gear icon, or Tools menu -> Internet Options, and Internet Options.

This video can get you that far. Only get to the menu. Don't do what he does after that point (so... at 25 seconds stop).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXZk4kipNyQ

When the guy in the video hits the "delete" button, you don't want to do that. Instead, click the "settings" button that is right next to it. Under settings you should see another button (this is where I begin to wing it... so lets hope for the best) that says "View Files". Click that.

When the window pops open for the files, search through the list until you find a file that beings with Cookie.(something)@www.onlycubcadet.net. When you find that file (and you can use the search function to find it) delete it.

Close the browser, restart it, and come back to the forum. You'll need to login again and all that Jazz, that's expected this time. Hopefully if things go well you won't have to log in again the NEXT time as long as you remember to hit the "remember me" check box. That check box is what is putting the cookie on your computer.

Give that a shot and let me know... We can dig EVEN DEEPER if need be. The next step is to use the delete button I told you not to earlier if you want to try that on your own. It WILL make you login to everything you've ever visited again though if you do that. I'm not sure if it will delete your password history (the passwords it automatically remembers for you), but it may well could.

Did you add OCC to the trusted sites section?

If not, I'll do a boat load of screen captures to walk you thru :beer2:

Do yourself a favor and stop using Internet Explorer. Switching to Google Chrome will probably fix your login issue, get you browsing faster and keep you way more secure on the web.

I've been told that before, but as I've said, "I hate change" I get so confused when things are different from what I'm used to.

I hear you, but.....just afraid I'll have everything goobered up by changing:BangPC:

I use FireFox and only use Internet Explorer when I run across one of those archaic sites that only support IE.

Here's my proposition. Download and install Google Chrome and to begin with use it only for onlycubcadets.net. You can use both Internet Explorer and Chrome at the same time. They are separate applications so your Internet Explorer won't be affected. Once you get used to it , you can do more and more of your browsing in Chrome. It's going to be like going from a Murray lawn tractor to a Cub Cadet 1782, some controls might be in a different spot but you'll know how to mow with it, and you'll be happy you did.

Maxwelhse 07-18-2014 01:44 PM

I'm a Firefox fan myself (been running it for over a decade now) but even that hoses up sometimes and causes confusion. I can't count how many times my icons have moved, disappeared, or my plugins have failed.

Since Zippy is a creature of habit (as am I), I'm trying to trouble shoot MSIE for him. Todd, did that latest round of help actually help you?

If you want to stick with IE I'm not afraid of getting it working the way you want it to, up to and including mailing the thing to me for repair (free of charge... you cover the shipping to/from).

Not yet, I'll get into it more over the weekend. I'll keep you posted.

OK, tried what you suggested. Didn't find anything with cookies, occ, just occ. So deleted it and tried logging in, with checking the remember me and still the same thing. Need to log in each time.
I guess it's no big deal, just weird that OCC is the only one that I need to. Oh well, that's life. But I sure appreciate you trying to fix it:beerchug:
I also deleted all cookies, and that didn't do anything. Logged into other sites, and they remembered me, who knows.

Maxwelhse 07-21-2014 02:08 AM

The offer stands Zippy... If you want it changed mail it over. If you're cool with it, I was happy to offer the help and I'm sorry it didn't work out for ya.

To all who were helping me get this log in thing figured out, thanks. Don't know what difference it makes but I took the battery out, killed everything and re installed the battery, fired it up, logged into OCC, checked remember me box.
Exited OCC, opened it up and I'm logged in:beerchug: tried it a couple times and it's working fine. Remembers me like the old puter. Go figure? Don't know why, and guess it don't matter at this point. I'TS ALL GOOD.
Again thanks guys, just sorry it was so easy, and I kept bothering you all.
