Majic paint at TSC
Does the Majic brand of paints at TSC have the colors for IH cubs? I've looked and never seen any. But maybe someone else's store is stocked differently.
THX, Nate |
THEY Have the NEW CUB CADETS yellow
|
Id look into the case/ih paint if i were you, its still fairly cheap and holds up much better.
|
Just my 2 cents but I've used the Majic stuff from TSC, let's just say it's not so Magic. Glad I didn't use it on something that I worried about getting a nice finish on.

I've also heard that it takes FOREVER to dry.
|
The TSC majic comes in cub cadet yellow for the newer cubs and school bus yellow for the old cubs. Takes forever to dry, then never really dry, sags and droops on a vertical surface.
Just bought a 90 degree Pto box from a true restorer and he did a hood comparison with majic on one side and PPG BCCC on the other, obviously no comparison for numerous reasons but the really weird thing was after two weeks of the majic finally drying, he put the clear on and all the paint cracked like a desert. Very weird. You get what you pay for in this instance but if you're just looking to touch up, their spray cans are an ok match as well as the Rustoleum almond that Lew has mentioned to use for the later IH white |

yup i painted my trailer tongue with Majic black paint...was still tacky enough to wipe off with a rag a week later. will never use that paint again. |

I've never used it, but I got the very clear indication that Majestic paint was the worst possible paint you could buy. (fwiw - For stuff like your trailer I like to use engine paint with VHT being my current front runner (if you can find Tempo use that instead. I like it even more but its hard to find). It's expensive, but it holds up excellent... Avoid Pioneer at all costs). |
it will harden like a rock if you use ppg hardener with it but it still looks like crap.
|
^^Pretty sure TSC doesn't say to add someone elses product to it too! :) I've had fantastic success with PPG products in general, but that's usually way above what we're looking to do on here.

I was actually calling out the TSC crap product for requiring a GOOD product to be added to it, not what you tried. :)
You're a body guy, right? I've never priced it out but I would think doing a tractor in PPG should only be about $150 of materials... Thoughts? |
Mixing brands cheap or not is a no no. It may work or you could end up with a giant mess. I use orscehlens van sickle , but I wax mine twice a year and keep it inside and have been known to cover it with a blanket! Lol automotive paints are the best and are out of most of our price ranges. Bottom line it's your tractor use what you want . I have heard a lot of negative things about tsc majec paint. I'd go to case IH and get paint if I didn't use van sickle.

I'll just ask the question since you're a pro. If you were going to paint one tomorrow for "average" condition paint, what would you use? Obvious show paint would be the best, but I don't think may of us really want show tractors. I've been eyeing the Valspar stuff. |
Don't mean to kick Majic paint while it's down, but I'm going to anyway. Far and away the worst rattlecan paint I've ever used. Everyone has covered it: sprays like crud, looks like crud, won't dry and did I say it looks like crud!
I actually found Valspar CC yellow on Amazon. Overpriced by the time you ship a box of 4 or 5 cans, but in my case I didn't have an alternative and was just glad to have a few more cans to finish my 147. |

Im not gonna buy any majic. My local Ih Case deal is out of IH Yellow and wont stock it again since no one buys it. They wouldn't even get it in for me! Was just curious...........

That said, I'd get the Valspar on Amazon. |
