Saturday Night, and OCC
Hey folks! I'm out in the shop putting back together my 1250's Kohler K301, and about to finish up with the parts 1450. Pretty good evening! Well, lo-and behold the long awaited model 86 showed up just a short while ago.....delivered! The kid turns out to be a great friend, and I assured him that once him and his girlfriend settle in, that he should really get back into the IH Cub Cadets for mowing their yard once they get their property and house.
Anyways, he was glad to see this model 86 go to a good home. I assured him that it would, and explained that I don't drill holes, part out, make any funny modifications to my garden tractors. I told him they all stay factory, but I will improve them where possible. Now, having this 86, it sure is a cream puff! Bad engine and all. We're certain the connecting rod broke. Besides that, the tractor should be gone through and made sure all WP monogram hardware is in place, and the basic checks, cleaning, and lubrication. The seat is in so-so condition. This makes 3 pick up's in a month's time! I'm very excited about this 86. Going to tinker around with it, then probably put it up for the winter along with my awesome 1211! I'm now up to a 1250, two 1450's, a model 72, my 1211, and now this model 86! Yes sir, finally have me an 86! |
congrats on the 86. i keep wanting to get one due to the rarity but my limited storage space keeps me from doing so, tomorrow i begin building an addition on my workshop.:biggrin2:
|
I'd like an 86 too, something about having another little 8 horse wide frame, and the rarity too
|
Cool, and delivered also:beerchug:
But there seems to be a problem..... where is the pictures? |
Wow. I'm starting to kick myself for letting one go at an auction a couple weeks ago for $450. I was gonna go $500, I woulda had it at $475, then the other might have had it at $500. Never know. Sad thing was, it belonged to a friend of mine, I worked on it, he used it to mow, only 2 things wrong was choke cable had frozen up and float wasnt shutting off in carb. Knew i'd kick myelf. Very nice condition, too. I mowed with it a couple times, nice little tractor. Johncub, if you don't mind me askin, where in ohio are you from? Roy

My model 71 was my most recent low production number garden tractor, next it was my model 72, until this model 86! You have to make the room to keep them. Here is an example: { BTW, I don't scrap anymore Cub Cadet anything unless it's really bad. Also, I live in tractor country. Folks often rubber neck at the tractors, and sometimes pop in to ask about some of them. } http://i62.tinypic.com/2iicuvc.jpg[/IM |

A few pictures of my model 86
Just a few more. I don't have major plans for the engine work, just going to clean and go through it nicely as time permits.

I look forward to getting it running :American Flag 1: |
Looks good.:beerchug:
mine is 484777 |
That 86 looks pretty good! Was that the hardware store that burnt down last spring? I've been up that way a few times. There were several cubs at my friends auction, unfortunately they sold the 86 last so I didnt get a chance to buy any of the others. Not a big deal, tho, I have a couple more I can use. Roy

Here is the rear fender pan, the battery well. Its not rusted out like most fender pans are! http://i62.tinypic.com/2dvqz5t.jpg[/I I may consider a trade for a nice 1211, { to a collector preferred }..... but more than likely no one will give two nickels to rub together, so I'll be holding on to the rare bird, lol! |
That's a nice looking 86, john!:beer2:
|
That's a good looking tractor. I like the black wheels, gives it a batmobile look.:biggrin2:
|
Crazy as it seems, I'm kinda likin' those MUD FLAPS.

I really like this 86, but wish I never sold my model 100! Got to have an all-gear IH Cub Cadet in the line up, to complement that IH Cub Cadet hydro,...or CCC ! One a side note: I had planed to trade the 86 for some 1450 parts, but I hooked a perfectly running 1450 for $140.00 , so that was that. Don't need any parts for my good 1450. Then, I switched gears and decided I want to have my 1211 as a plow day tractor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, this 86 might go. For me, its the thrill of the hunt, lol! I pretty much have what I like and want. { planning on gearing up for some major OEM up grades to my 1450, got all I need to } |
John, you planning on going to Renfrew plow day? I've been wanting to go for a couple years but haven't been able to. Really gonna make an effort for thi nov. By the way, The flaps do look good nice. Roy

Well, yesterday I picked up a running Kohler K341A! Had to have been out of a 169,.... and a creeper for my 86! Looks like I found my winter project!
:American Flag 1: |
Here is the Kohler K341A that came out of a model 169! I might not install the creeper. With a 16 horse gear drive, I think I might have a plow tractor finally! This is going to be great!
http://i58.tinypic.com/16anml4.jpg[/ I have another good carb, and the starter generator on the 86 was said to be good. Should plug right in after a drive hub change, I hope. The big 16 will be gone through to determine it's condition. Ahead of this is the finish-up of my 1450, and I want to get back to the 72 thread here at OCC preparing it for winter snow fighting duty!! Man, my first ever 16, it's quite a juggernaught of an engine. I can barely turn it over past the compression stroke by hand. later on guys, :American Flag 1: |
Those are rare John, where did you get it?
|
A long time buddy of mine stopped over this past weekend. He is the same guy I sold my 100 to. I showed him my recent collection, and my 86. When I told him the engine was bad, he said he has this K341. I gave him $50 for it. He said it runs, and usually he don't have any thing that don't run. I think his wife is helping him to "slow" down, he is an older gent. After I spun the engine to see if it had any compression, I knew I could make it fly! Might have to put some money into this one, lol! All I know, is that I would like to build a plow tractor,................
Thanks Nick! |
Your welcome john, that's cool. Great price too.

Nice pickup! |
Mike, no one want's to come off the good QA42A thrower for my 1450. Guess I'll have to settle for a plow tractor. Why, my 1450 is too nice to plow, and my 72 is for snow fighting, lol!
Model 86 plow tractor! :biggrin2: Here is the serial number of that Kohler 16: http://i59.tinypic.com/21liiw1.jpg[/IM http://i61.tinypic.com/2nvmys.jpg[/I A pretty good re-power! Here is the NF creeper. http://i61.tinypic.com/288teva.jpg[/I later on, :American Flag 1: |
