What's a cab generally worth?
 

With winter coming up, I've been keeping an eye out for anything that might be useful to me during this winter. Generally, this is a blade, blower, tire chains, weights, etc. Well, upon looking around yesterday, I came across something that could be infinitely useful to me. Seeing as during/after a good snow, I can spend up to 4 hours outside at a time, a cab would be very handy to have. I have a chance to pick this up for $400. I don't see a lot of cabs online (actually, this is the first this year I've seen around my parts), so I'm not real versed in prices. Would $400 be a fair price for this unit? BTW, he does have the doors, they just aren't on it right now. Thanks guys :beerchug:

I think $400 is a little steep, but as everyone here knows I'm always saying people want too much for stuff. I have 2 cabs, and almost bought both for $400. They say out east, they are a dime a dozen, but in Illinois, it seems like I see them listed in that range quite often. Mine are both steel cab and steel door models.

I can't tell if that's home made or not but one thing I noticed is that it covers about 1/2 of the screens on the side panels. My guess is that the engine would be pulling cold air into the cab from the outside unless you do some duct work.

I come across more soft cabs than steel cabs and have paid anywhere from $35-$150 for a soft and the steel cab, with curtain doors, was about $225. Ultimately though, you have to decide what it is worth to you to have some protection from the elements. If you can get him to lower the price great, but if not then you will have to decide if it is worth your money or not. If you don't see many of them in your area, then the time to buy is the time you see it.

I'm pretty sure that is the deluxe cab made by CC. I just bought one from a fellow forum member. Just got it off the truck yesterday. I paid $700 for the cab and a 451 blower. Too much? Maybe to some :Unknown: not to me.

I am not worried about being cold, I just don't want face-fulls of snow like last year.:beerchug:

Seems kinda pricey for me, the only way I'd spend that much on a cab is if I was buying steel and building my own.

I have one on a off topic orange tractor the last 2 years. By time I was done blowing snow I was ready to take my coat off. Outside temps were in the low 20's There is no heater in the tractor. They are worth their weight in gold if you ask me.

I also have both a cab and a 451, but don't have that in them. I have about that in both cabs, and the 451 and a 42" blade......

I wouldn't worry too much if you're getting the absolute best deal on the cab. If you want it, buy it. You'll be glad you did when winter gets here. That's unless you pass on it with hopes that a cheaper one comes along. Then you'll be wishing you did. Besides, you'd have at least that much in another cab if you have to ship it.

So I guess what I'm saying is it's not always about getting the best deal. It's about getting what you need, when you need it.

Agreed. It's not always about the best deals with this stuff. This stuff is old and getting hard to come by. Sometimes I get a smokin' deal and am super excited. Others I pay what I feel is a fair amount, and I feel good about that too because I know that I probably won't see another any time soon if ever.

I doubt that you can build one for less. I guess if I had to deal with a significant amount of snow blowing I'd spend $400.00 to stay dry and reasonably warm.

Heck I would pay 400 for a nice cab. I traded a really nice 71 for my cab. Have never looked back. First winter I used it I thought I was in heaven. No more snow blowing in your face and not having to dress up like an eskimo to do the driveway is priceless. :beerchug:

Sorry I haven't responded back to this thread recently guys. I work salary in a management position at a facility that requires you to stay during an emergency. Well, we had one. The recent storm that came through left us without power for quite a while. All told, I spent 31 consecutive hours at work. :bigeyes: So, now that I'm home, I can get back to business!!

I made a deal with the guy, and am getting the cab pictured plus another cool toy that will be sold as soon as I get it home. I'll be sure to post pics and more info as soon as we get a time set up to make the deal :beerchug:

I know I'm a little late to the discussion, but I paid $250.00 for mine (http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...t=29933&page=4) it is not in as good shape as the one one you show, but I love mine.

It cuts down on the time it takes to do the job. I can blow in any direction of travel now, regardless of which way the wind is blowing. Still need warm boots, but not having the wind on the rest of your body is a big improvement.

I would say you made the right choice.
