Oh boy, that'd be nice to have around! And don't say you have no use for it; I bet you $10k once you get it, you'd have all kinds of jobs for it! Put in an in-ground swimming pool, trench some cable to an out-building, add a nice pond, bigger driveway, plow driveways for money in the winter, come on; if you don't have things to do with it, you aren't trying hard enough!! :biggrin2: :beerchug:

I'll be honest, I've run small tractor/backhoe combo's like that quite a bit. I wouldn't buy one. If I wanted/needed a small backhoe like that I'd just get a mini-excavator. You can get them used for about the same money or less, and they don't usually power out like those tractor mounted backhoes do. All the mini-excavators I've used dug just like the big ones, just on a smaller scale.

Just my 2 cents but I'd go Orange and skip the back hoe. If you need a hoe it's better to rent it for the few jobs that you need one for around the home. As Jon mentioned the small track mounted units work great. BTDT.

one more downside is you have a limited range of movement with a backhoe. when youve reached your maximum reach...you have to fold it up, pick up the downriggers, climb back on the tractor...move a few feet and repeat. PITA. with two people its not bad, one on the backhoe part and one on the tractor...but most of the time that wont happen. mini (and large) excavators have 360degree reach, can move easier and are less bulky

I get what everyone is saying about a dedicated backhoe being a better machine for frequent/heavy jobs, but if a good deal came along, especially for the homeowner or someone with a small property, would you honestly say no to a backhoe on a smaller tractor? For what I'd use it for, I'd love to have one on the back of a tractor instead of a separate piece of machinery I'd have to maintain (ok, so that's not true of me, the more machines the better, but you get my point :biggrin2:).

This posting makes me wonder, does anyone on this site have a subcompact Cub similar to what was listed in the OP? I see them online all the time, but never seem to see anyone that has them. Makes me wonder just how popular and well built they are :bigthink:

My brother got a deal on this little backhoe unit for his ford, works pretty well. I admit I can't do as much with it as I can a 336 CAT, or even a mini excavator, but when I need to do some digging it sure beats a shovel:biggrin2:

I priced a contractor putting in a couple retaining walls for me, then decided I could do it myself AND buy the equipment to do it for less money. But you are right about the limitations--dig, retract, move, deploy, dig, retract, move, deploy... but works great for planting trees, etc. Not sure how a tracked mini excavator would work digging trenches across a hill--on the contour. The backhoe can be leveled. I'd be afraid the track hoe would tip over? Talking a significant slope..

Orange tractor in the middle here joined the stable about 10 years ago.

Was in the process of building a PF engineering backhoe for our utility tractor when we bought a bobcat 331 mini hoe complete with a hydraulic thumb. Work on the backhoe stopped the first time I ran the mini. Hands down its the best way to dig... and so much fun. It beats the heck out of a loader backhoe... of any size. We payed well over 10 grand for ours... but for tight areas, trenching, loading scrap metal, etc... #1 in my book :beerchug:

Anyone want the plans, a mostly built mast and steel for a cub sized backhoe?? Lol

We have an old skid steer with a front mount hoe attachment on it which works great for the little things. Plus its a T handle drive reach back and push and ur movin backward.
I'll say its still no match for a mini excavator tho.
Just rented one at my parents house and could not believe what that machine could do. Especially liked the front blade, small but extremely useful.

A mini-excavator can do one job well. Anyone here try mowing, tilling, pushing snow, plowing the garden, or pulling a wagon with one? My vote would be for the tractor if I could only choose one.

Actually, they make a lot of attachments for them. There is even a "bush hog" mower available. Kinda cool for trimming trees. :bigeyes::bigeyes:
