For the smokers

1 Attachment(s)
I'm 31 and I started smoking when i was 13 so I've spent the better part of my life as a smoker and as many of you know its a hard habit to quit. I've tried a lot of different things to try to quit but nothing ever seemed to work well enough to keep me away from cigarettes, I've tried e cigs and gum and cold turkey a few times but never made it to far. I had the zig zag vaporizer recommended to me by my cousin who got one about a month ago and has had good luck with it, I picked one up on Friday and ive only had 3 cigarettes since then, usually first thing in he morning when the craving is the strongest but othetwise the vaporizer keeps me satisfied. The vaporizer cost about 20 bucks and the bottle to fill it cost 5, my cousin says he gets a week out of a bottle which I would say is pretty accurate based off how much I've used and what I have left. I just thought I would share this info for those who may be interested.

Tim it is as bad as trying to quit chewing...BTDT... I had it all but kicked for over a year and then one bad day...and off to the races once again. I have tried everything and some how it just keeps coming back. Almost as addictive as these darn tractors LOL!!!!! :bash2:

jimbob200521 12-01-2014 01:03 PM

This is kinda funny, I was debating posting something about this the other day because I just got the same thing you did (different name brand but same thing). I paid $20 for the vape pen and $7 for a bottle of juice, then bought a couple more bottles two days later. What I like about it is you can get the juices with or without nicotine (and different amounts of it at that), the flavor/taste is a lot better than cigarettes, you can smoke them indoors, they are cheaper in the long run, and no pesky lighters to lose track of :biggrin2:

Just my :TwoCents: but if you are trying to quit, this REALLY is worth a try. Get a $20 vape pen, a good juice with high nicotine (like 16mg), then the next bottle get lower nicotine, then less, then less, etc.

The only reason I decided to post this is because there was some discussion in another thread a while back where others had said they want to quit. I also like that you can get the liquid in different nicotine levels, I haven't tried any flavors yet other than the traditional tobacco but I may try something different when this bottle runs out.

The one thing that keeps this from working for me is they are too big. I'm not going to hang these things around my neck. Does anyone know of a cigarette size one?

cubby102 12-01-2014 02:26 PM

Blu makes one thats the size of a cig. The charger/case is the size of a pack

olds45512 12-01-2014 02:33 PM

I have a blue CIG and have tried a few others and was never impressed, first of all there far to heavy so unless you plan to hold it with your teeth you always have to have a hand on it. The other thing I don't care for about them is I could never get a good hit on one without trying way to hard, I have no problem getting a good hit on the vaporizer without even trying.

Yosemite Sam 12-01-2014 02:35 PM

How about keeping us posted on this, the next time I get to town I may pick up one of these things.

I've been smoking for somewhere around 36 years and am REALLY getting to the point where I WANT AND NEED to quit.

I never imagined that the Zig Zag man would ever help me quit smoking.

I'm not sure he's here to help you quit smoking but to simply offer a less harmful alternative, these are not really advertised to help you quit but to be a little bit safer way to get what you need. This is just a stepping stone to help get you where you need to go.

I'd recommend triple berry. May sound fruity, but it is delicious! :beerchug: I've also got envy flavor and lust flavor that are kind of "melon-y". Those two are made by a local shop that produces, bottles, and sells their own stuff. Just as good as the big guy stuff but a couple bucks a bottle cheaper.

I've got 3 bottles (one store had a buy one get one free sale on Black Friday so I had to :biggrin2:) and I plan to switch it up every fill up or two so I don't get worn out on one flavor.

I opened this up thinking it was going to be somehow related to diesels!!

I hope it works out for you stepping down the nicotene towards being able to quit...

Some added incentive.....the cigarette money saved can be spent on cub's!! :)

I tricked you into looking.:biggrin2: yes as far as saving money goes it cost me about 45 bucks a week to smoke so hopefully I can start spending that money elsewhere.

Cubcrazy 12-01-2014 04:14 PM

I feel for you guys who smoke and are trying to quit. I got lucky and tried cigs when I was kid and didn't like it and never picked up another one since.

bocephus1991 12-01-2014 09:16 PM

Ime quitting smoking is easy compared to quitting chewing tobacco or snuff as it's called. I started chewing when I was 13 I will be 42 next week. I smoked more in my younger days running around and drinking. Still smoke from time to time when I go visit with buddies at their shops and hang out bs and throw a few drinks back , fry up some fish. I need to quit , may someday . It's tough though. I grew some tobacco for the firstime this year, haven't gotton around to making any chew yet. The tobacco is dry. All in all good luck to you , hope it works for you!

Hope you all get what you're looking for, to eventually stop smoking. For me it was easy to stop the smoking habit. Started when I was 15 until I hit 22....then went to chewing Skoal:biggrin2:
Now 30 years later I'm down to pouches:biggrin2: where do I go from there? Only took 30 years to get to these. To stop the dipping, chewing whatever you call it is real tough. Made a day one time, about jumped out of my skin, crawly, sweaty, grumpy, oh real grumpy. Eat, eat, eat, wife picked a can up on the way home from work, said "you're much easier to live with if you're chewing, here kill yourself".
Well, I'm still alive.
Sorry to jump your thread Tim, but has anyone successfully stopped dipping?

It was much easier for me to quit chewing then it is smoking. I can go months without a dip. Only about a day without smokes. Started out smoking/chewing when I was 13. 26 now and im on edge if I go without

I had a friend quit chew a few years ago, he did it by chewing a lot of gum and I mean a lot.

64fleetside 12-02-2014 10:55 AM

I quit the cigs 14yrs/50lbs ago. I used the patch for 2 weeks and I chewed gum(and some hard candy) like it was going outta style, even kept gum in the shirt pocket the cigs were always in. Bought gum everyday at the convenience store, finally after the nicotine habit was gone it was easy to quit the gum-all the sugar was starting to give me a cavity. First week to a month was the worst, after that you got it licked. Worst part is the weight gain, man, do I eat now...
You can't smoke anywhere now it seems, at the airport Dad had to be 50ft from the doors to smoke.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who gained about 40 or 50 pounds when I quit smoking a couple years ago.

I have. I chewed Skoal wintergreen for 15 years. Had the same reaction as you did Todd when I quit. Just gave it up after a friend of mine lost half his jaw, hate to tell the horror stories but that's it. I never turned into one of those people who used to do it and now talk bad about those who do, it just scared the crap out of me. Used to smoke too, marb reds. Have to say that quitting the chew was harder for me. Lots of nicotine in the old chew, and the rumors of the ground up fine glass to make sure it goes right to the head, not going to say I don't miss it but I feel for you guys trying to quit, lots of triggers out there that make you want to have a smoke or dip, btdt

well its officially been over 3 days since my last smoke and i must say the vaporizer is working nicely, i havent had any disire to smoke cigarettes and i dont feel like choking someone.:biggrin2:

WOW! Congratulations, 3 days would be an eternity for me , I wish you continued success.

I picked up one of these apparatuses yesterday. "Superpuff" is the brand name, they didn't have the Zig Zag brand. I got 24 mg nicotine, blueberry juice to go with it.

I'm not real crazy about it, I didn't know until after I bought it that it has to be in an "upright position" all the time. That, is going to make it a little inconvenient. If there were a way to tie it on a string and carry it around my neck, I would do that, just because it would be more handy.

My intention is to put forth a real effort to make this thing work, I should have quit smoking in 02 when I got my first pacemaker, but I didn't and I really regret it now.

I am hoping to cut the nicotine down little by little until I no longer need this thing, I guess we'll see what happens.

I wish the best of luck to everyone out there who is trying to quit smoking/chewing, this is probably going to be the most difficult thing I have ever done, but I think I'm really ready.

Thank you to olds45512 for starting this thread and giving me some motivation.

I've never been a smoker, but have watched a few friends try and quit multiple times before finally kicking the habit. I wish you guys good luck, you can do it!

your welcome and thank you. Without this thing 3 days would be an eternity, I was telling my wife last night that I can't believe how well this works at controlling my need to smoke. I can't speak to the brand you bought but mine didn't say anything about it needing to stand up right but that's how I keep mine anyway, when I'm at work I leave it standing on the toolbox and when I'm in the truck its in the cup holder.

64fleetside 12-04-2014 02:20 PM

My 73 y/o coffee buddy(a smoker for over 50yrs) quit a couple months ago with help from a vaporizer, so it can be done! Good Luck all.

olds45512 12-05-2014 12:25 PM

So after reading Yosemite Sam post about his vaporizer needing to stand upright I did a little test last night, I left my zig zag brand laying on its side all night while full and it didn't leak at all.

On the potential of vape pen leakage: it CAN happen, but really only under two circumstances. First, if you have a cheap pen that doesn't have a good seal between the chamber and the mouthpiece (or if you don't tighten it enough after refilling) it can leak that way. Second, on some of the better units, you are able to replace seals within the device. These seals, like ones on our Cubs, wear out and they can leak. Replace the seal, and voila, you're good to go again. I'll say this, I've never had mine leak and it goes through every angle you can think of throughout the day and has been dropped on more than one occasion and it still performs flawlessly. These little guys really are tough :beerchug:

24mg juice  I don't think I've seen them that high around here, all ours usually top out at it 18mg (and I've got one of those juices, triple berry and it's yum yum).

As far as an "upright position", technically, most manufactures recommend keeping them upright but any unit worth it's weight won't mind being tumbled around. I try to keep mine upright when I'm not using it (like at night) but otherwise it's in my pocket all day keeping me company nad I don't think twice about it :biggrin2:

The only time it could matter is when you are running low on juice. If you let it sit on its side or any position where the coil isn't exposed to the juice, you will taste an almost "burning" flavor as there is no juice to burn. If you get that, top it off or make sure you get the coil coated.

Also keep in mind guys that most of these things have coils that need to be replaced every so often :beerchug:

jimbob200521 12-05-2014 12:57 PM

This is the pen I use:

http://www.vapeitnow.com/products/eg...l#features-tab

Notice in the pic, inside the clear part, or the chamber, the string inside. That's part of the coil. Kind of like an old kerosene lamp, the string soaks up the juice to feed it to the coil. The string/coil is what's replaceable :beerchug:

Ok, enough post hogging by me, I'll fade into the background again :biggrin2:

http://s26.postimg.org/9n6db1h55/bla...rter_kit_2.jpg

olds45512 12-05-2014 02:24 PM

We have 24mg around here in certain brands, I'm using the zig zag brand traditional flavor and the highest it goes is 18mg.

Yosemite Sam 12-05-2014 02:41 PM

The gal in the store told me that if the juice got into the tiny metal tube in the middle of the fuselage that it would be ruined and a new one would be required.

Ok just looked at the thing, it appears that the tiny metal tube is "encapsuled" by the mouthpiece and the juice may not be able to get there once assembled.

FWIW, The one I got can be "rebuilt" and I got the replacement parts while I was there.

They had a juice that was higher yet than the 24 mg, but I don't remember what it was (I'm sure I told her I wanted the second one from the highest).

So far I haven't fared as well as some of you guys, yesterday I smoked 5 or 6 cigarettes, today I've had 2 (so far) but that is pretty good for me.

Not smoking is and always has been difficult for me (at one time, I smoked 3 packs a day).

I should probably also tell you that I use Camel Snus (not that I'm advocating any particular brand), I opened a new tin on Wednesday and it still has 6 "pouches" left in it.

I use the Snus to keep the "crave" away, it really has helped slow the smoking down. Hopefully the Snus will be easy enough to stop once the cigarette thing is gone.

I really am looking forward to not smoking, I think it would be really nice to be able to walk from the living room to the kitchen without having to stop off in the dining room to rest for a few minutes.

olds45512 12-05-2014 03:46 PM

Id suggest getting away from the Fruity flavors and getting the regular tobacco flavor, I got some mixed berry yesterday and it taste good but doesn't seem to do as good at controlling the cravings so I picked up another bottle of the traditional tobacco.

Not familiar with the "Snus", is that what we call chew? When you mentioned pouches I figure it to be a tobacco blend of sorts?
That was how I quit smoking was to start chewing the loose Skoal, now I'm doing pouches and it's almost impossible to stop. Just figuring if you are thinking when you get off the smokes it'll be easier to stop the pouches... it's not.

This is them. (Still not advertising or advocating)

Zippy, I sure do hope your wrong about quitting them later... Even if you're not, they still gotta be "less bad" than cigarettes.

BTW, 6 cigarettes today, not great but still better than a whole pack.

Me to. But they look the same as my Skoal Bandits, Pouches. And it's another bad habit I picked up trying to substitute the smokes.
I figure they aren't as bad as smokes, can't live without lungs, but......:bigthink:

The snus is a little different then the skill stuff. No need to spit just swallow the juice. That said snus never really did anything for me but taste danged good. I think y'all got me talked into tring to quit again. Helps when there are others shooting for the same goal

Your supposed to spit? I never read the directions, never once spit while chewing tobacco. No wonder it's so hard to stop.:bigthink:
