2182 Cub Cadet with a 4th blower
 

I'm having trouble with the blower it keeps throwing the belt. I changed 2 of the 3 pulleys and the mounting bracket that holds the tension pulleyes and I changed the spring. Any ideas?:beer2:

Using mtd belts from a farm supply cub cadet dealer. I'll post pictures a little later

I don't have enough experience with the 450/451 blowers but something looks off with that belt tensioner. I have the same sporadic issue with mine (the couple times I dry ran it :biggrin2:) the belt will hop off the PTO when engaging it. I just pop it back on and I'm good to go but still weird none-the-less. I will be following this thread. :bigthink:

Looks like the belt may be upside down on the lower pulley in the second pic. May be just they way I'm looking at it. Don't know if you put it on that way or if it flipped over.

I'm a little confused about what I am seeing in the photos showing the tensioning spring. I have a 450 and a 451 blower and neither of them have that round rod with the spring attached, are you sure it is a 450/451 blower? It looks more like a 551 as far as the tensioning system and the lower carriage goes. Here is what the 450 currently attached to my 2082 looks like. Also the pulley that you didn't change, the rusty one, looks like it is on an angle. Maybe the bearing or mount pin is worn. Are you mixing parts between a 451 and a 551?

No the belt is right side up. But I discovered that one of the augers has a broken shear pin. I don't know if that makes a difference in the balance and that causes it to come off. I heard that not running a cub cadet belt would make it jump off but I don't know if that is true

Well I'm not sure about mixing the parts. The tension rod was on it when I bought it. The rusty pulley spins fine and even. I'm stumped

Ok, that isn't a 450/1 it's a 551. Lower frames are different on the 551. What is the SN# of your tractor? The early SN#'s call for the 450 blower and the late for the 451/551. You may have the wrong PTO for the particular blower you are using which would throw off belt alignment.

No, the sheared pin will not make the belt go funky. Not related at all.

Yup its a 551. 2 of the upper mounting pivot bolts seem loose which I can move the bower forward and back but I don't think that is it either. One of the shoulder bolts where the blower slides over when you mount it is tightened more than the other. I'm thinking the blower mount isn't back far enough. I'll try that tomorrow. What's your thoughts on not using cub cadet belts?

If you are messing up the correct, big $ cub belts as it is. I would use cheaper belts until you get it figured out. Just my :TwoCents:

WOW! I'm surprised that belts last any time on something like that, too many twists and turns. Was MTD too cheap to do a shaft driven blower?

There is really nothing "special" about most of the belts, as long as you use a quality name brand belt like a Gates in the correct length, width and profile it should perform just fine.

No more twists than the mule drive on your 982, and yes the 3000 series tractors have a shaft drive blower and deck.:beerchug:

Group 44, true, but I'm thinking that the angle the belt is hitting that front pulley it will wear faster than normal. If they only used one set of idler pulleys I don't see how the belt would align up properly. I'm thinking it will look like this. V

Plus that belt is shorter than a mower deck and is twisting more because the drive and driven pulleys are parallel.

:bigthink: I don't know, I'm just throwing that out there. I live in Georgia and have never seen a 451 or a 551.

It's not as bad as it looks like in the pics Todd. I don't have my blower on now, but my belt runs really straight. The last couple winters I put around 40 or 50 hours (per winter) on mine. I'm using the same belt I bought about 10 years ago. So probably about 200-250 hours on it. (It doesn't get used every year.)

Thanks David I thought about buying a blade but I hate having big snow banks all around. Plus it looks like crap when you are done
