Qa42a on a narrow frame

How are you guys getting them to fit? The owners manual does not cover installation. When you move the plates in there is nothing that centers the unit. Washers? What about the mount? Drill holes and bolt, well "hitch" on tractor????

darkminion_17 01-09-2015 06:49 PM

are you using this manual?

The last letter in QA42 "A" is for "adjustable" the center plate have 8 holes, use the narrow one but don't torque your bold completely, you install the belt and slide down the center plate as far you can to apply tension to the belt, now you torque your 4 center plate bold and adjust the belt tension with the side butterfly nut.

I remove the front thrower completely, I adjust the PTO adapter alone, much easy to deal with I think....It work for me:ThumbsUp:

PS:Look in the manual for the "How to" adjust the bolt under the center plate.

Yup moved the two side plates to the inner position, but what holds the whole unit from sliding left to right? Seems there should be spacers to take up the extra space. What about mounting the unit to the tractor. Wide frames use a "hitch"

I had clearance issues when I mounted a qa42a on a 147. The lift rod will lay on the footrest and the front axle. I ended up adding a higher hole in the lift handle bracket and building a extension on the blower lifting point. Also I bolted the quick attach bracket to the tractor on each side with a 1/2" bolt to make it more rigid.

I did some research and someone suggested to get flat stock that catches the rear holes of the fram and welding a bolt so it catches the slide in mount.

There are 1" wide bushings on the adjustable shaft. What tractor are you putting this on?

Well there is my problem. No bushings. I'll have to get some at tractor supply tomorrow. It must be a pain to get the rear nut behind the frame. Not a lot of room behind there.

It has a nut welded to the inside of the frame at least on this 147. I think its factory this way but not sure about other models.

Well that explains that. I'm going to bust out the welder tomorrow.

I have hydro lift. I think I may be ok.

If its going to be installed on 70 100 102 122 123 you won't be able to weld nuts to the inside of the frame for the front hole. They will interfere with the grill casting that needs to slide on the inside of the frame. I'm not sure if that is the case with the 124 series tractors.

My former 122 and both my 125's have the welded nut inside the frame.

My 122 with the QA42 attached with my quick attach tabs . Notice the bolt in the rear hole.

drifter 01-09-2015 09:37 PM

Only the middle bolt has a nut welded. Newer models have the third one welded also and uses a shoulder bolt I believe.

Up to and including the 123 model was two holes per side. Starting with the 124/125 ( 1968 ) they have the QA hook ups. Here's a picture of my 125 with the QA42 with the "third bolt"

I was able to do that on my 123. Yes, it takes time, but it is possible.

Got it all mounted today. Wish I did this 2 months ago. It's 15* out. I ended up cutting off the upper link tab and making special nuts with the rod ends. It spaces it out 1" so it clears the grill really well. Got some 1" spacers at tractor supply. I will need to flip my pulley for some reason it does not line up with the pto. Also my rod is really short and should be raised so it does not hit the front axle.

drifter 01-11-2015 02:02 PM

Got the blower working today. I am very impressed. I used the longer rod for my plow and raised the mount on the hydraulic lift. Everything works great.

glad you got it figgerd out.All you needs is a somes snows
