Awesome looking 782D

I'm thinking that is a clone and not a true 782 diesel.

Looks pretty from here.
Oak, are there signs that make you think it's a clone? |

Key in the right location, throttle is correct.... I don't see anything that makes me think it's a clone. :Unknown: Am I missing it? Quote:

Diesel's were not made until 1984. I'd like to see a close up of the serial # tag. Did red tractors still have IH tags after 81?
|
I know what you guys are saying about the tag. The IH tags were tiny though. That one looks bigger. I'm pretty sure that my CCC built 582's tag is that size. I don't think that the CCC built red ones had that big tag, (like the yellow machines) but it was bigger than the IH tags. I'm at the shop and both my red ones are at home. I have a IH built 682, and a CCC built 582, and lots of later CCC's, so I can compare. Good eye guys, but I'm not convinced just yet.....
Anyone else have a machine they can look at real quick or grab a pic of? |

Just looking at this guys shop would make me doubt if would be a clone. This dude looks a wee bit particular if you know what I mean.
Where is this Madison? I'd like to stop by and have lunch on his shop floor! wow. |

If it is, it's the only part on the machine that is.... :bigthink: Quote:

After IH sold out to CCC, all the cast iron differential housings were discarded for aluminum housings painted black.
I don't know why I would think this is a clone. An OCC member near my location has one. But with the price of diesel so much more than that of gasoline....:bigthink: |

Thanks for clearing that up for the good of the group. :beatdeadhorse: |
All IH tags were small like the one pictured. Once it become CCC, the tags were all larger and the same size. Only two sizes of tags, IH small one, CCC large one. All factory 782D's have the large serial number tag, not the small one pictured. Could still be an original 782D with the frame replaced. Who knows. The front axle should be black, not red. Looks like the front axle hasn't been painted either. Gonna be picky, but for 4 grand, the engine bay/ engine should've atleast been painted or touched up. And maybe a Cat O on the back, and a mower deck, and a Cat O plow, etc........:biggrin2:

That is one sweet machine. I especially like the 5 " ripped " Verdesteins on front.I couldn't resist.

Why does the area around the headlights look weird?
|
:bigthink: Maybe I'm wrong. Looking at Oscar Will's book it says that the IH machine code is 0606 for the 782D. Now that would make it a rare find because I have never seen a diesel with the small tag and mine have the large tag with the CCC factory number. Now I'm curious to what the tag says.

Well, after a little more research I looked at a tag on one of mine and do see a code #.:bash2: I give up.

I'm assuming he replaced the frame. The CCC tags are like the one you posted. None had the smaller IH tag. Trying to remember the actual number, but when the 782D's came out in 1984, weren't they in the 725000-730000 range for when they joined the line? And another little tidbit. If you look at the top line in your serial number tag, you'll see 882. The 782D's as well as the 882's were all marked with the 882 moniker on the serial number tag. You prolly already knew that one though. BTW, did ya pick up that free 100 down your way............LOL |
