105 Face Lift
 

I'm letting my 13yr old son have at this 105. I set the service manual and the parts manual by it and handed him the tools. We will see how it turns out. I don't know if his heart is really in it cause he saw the cyclops of Sams on the pic of the week awile back. I think all he really saw in that pic was the pool. I told him pools don't come with a 2182. He really wants a super now. Thanks Sam:biggrin2:

Looks like he's gotten off to a good start!

He really wants to use the impact but I said you get to know your cub better with hands on, more of a bonding experience I said. He knows I don't like using them but I guess tonite I will if it keeps him interested.

Impact
 

I would never turn a novice loose with an impact, until they get the "torque wrench hand". Until the "feel" of nuts and bolts is acquired, too many things "go wrong".
You have a wonderful opportunity to teach the love of well done mechanical achievement, with your son, this project, and a cub. My son never had any interest. But, I helped my grandson to build a 86' Chevy 4 wheel drive. Priceless!

Night two
 

More progress last last nite. Steering wheel has got him slowed down. Dad might have to do that. He looks at the manual quite a bit so that's good. Soon as the weather warms a little we are off to the car wash to get rid of some grime

Sorry about that. Tell him to study, get a good paying job and save and he can get a 2182 and a pool. Oh and it will take a few years. Ask me how I know. Good to see him learning how to do something with his hands other than texting. Well done Dad. :beerchug:

I do not know if your son belongs to 4-H, but some yutes have refurbished cubs and garden tractors for their 4-H projects. Might be a good opportunity to foster respect for both in your son, since he is handling it himself I thought I would throw that opportunity out.

I will check into that 4h thing. Yutes, that's some funny stuff right there. Been awhile since I've seen that movie.

Looks great. My first cub was a 125 that is my dad's (well not really mine but I used it and we did all the mechanical stuff on it together) Lots of memories with that thing. No better place to start IMO.

Doing a little sanding
 

Started with the fenders and a DA. We are both learning from this point cause he wants to paint it himself. I've built a few giant scale airplanes but had a body shop paint them for me. We have read the forum about the hvlp guns and may give that a try. We will see how priming goes and if that's good then try paint.

Great idea! I just got into Cubs 3 months ago and already have 2! My 1st was a 125 that came with 2 42" decks, 2 sets of mounted turf tires (one set narrow with chains and a wide set) wheel weights and a blade. I just bought a 1450 that came with a 50" deck, the side panels and a snow thrower. The 125 is complete, will get restored, is and will be a working tractor. I think I'll have my 9 year old son help me and then get him his own cub.

Sorry to report he hasn't made much more progress. Turned 16 and discovered cars and girls, the downfall of many of us. :biggrin2:
It's waiting for him, he says he'll finish it but I'm not that young anymore.:biggrin2:

I asked my company to send me to our welding school recently in Lima Ohio as I want to learn more after 25 years of welding, as I heard the master welder/teacher there is an amazing welder of all types. And yes, a woman.

I would like to see this 105 finished! This model was an absolutely, positively, beautiful series for International Harvester Company. Never in any other series, have there been so much attention in detail, looks, and design going the extra mile in quality and excellence. Its been often said, the 105 series was the pinnacle of the whole IH line up, respectfully.

And hey, with that 105 rear end having transferred power to the ground from the Farmall Cub's C-60 4 cylinder gas engine, the 105's frame and automotive steering will slug it out with any Super! Hopefully we see the 105 again!
