the 1641
7 Attachment(s)
Picked this 1641 today at an auction 350 hrs,46" deck, loaded tires, they said the motor was locked up but I knew better that it may be the starter.
I removed the bottom bolt on the starter by just pulling on it.oh boy. So I pulled the motor and removed the flywheel and found a piece of the starter and the piece of the block that broke off jammed in there keeping the flywheel from turning. I have a fix for the starter, there is a threaded hole in the block just below the starter. Any ideas? |
I have an idea. :biggrin2:
|
What is your Idea?
no you can't have the side panels, mine mine mine! |
Put it back together and see if it runs. :biggrin2:
|
Nice find Lew.

Someone loaded the tires with washer fluid. |
Very nice find! I'm sure you'll figure something out. I've used a lot of these in the past, http://www.pemnet.com/
Deck on my 1641 with its' new PTO is working great. R&R'd the deck belt. Now a new PTO belt is in order. 5/8 x 92, correct? Oh, my deck is 48" Model 317. Any local stores, manufacturers you gentlemen recommend for the PTO belt? Part number? Nice Cub you picked up! I put a new starter in my 1641, used socket head bolts when I installed it. |
The 1641 I bought had the threads striped out on the top starter bolt and I ended up using JB weld to put a stud in the block to mount the starter. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=36148 Post #49-#65. It would probably a nightmare to get the starter off with the engine in the tractor but that was all I could come up with.
Tankman, for reasons I can't explain my 1863 and 1641 with 317 decks both use a 5/8 x 90 Huskee belts from tractor supply. I ordered a 5/8 x 92 belt and it was to long. Discussion http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=34143 Cannon |
Thanks Cannon51! I'm goin' to try the 5/8-90 belt, it's on the shelf.
After looking at the pic's in the link you provided, all looks well here. I'll report how I make out with the 90" length. Put a Huskee Kevlar 5/8" x 90" belt on early this morning. Works fine and, I like the pulley alignment better (the pair of verticals). Question? Noise? No bearing noise, deck roars. I'm imagining grass flyin' 10 yards out the chute. Am I insane? |
Thanks for the link Tankman,I will go with the stud and jb weld fix,Like Sam said I need to get it running first and determine how the rest of it works.

I'm sure all will be fine in Joisey!
The boys 'n I are chompin' at the bit to mow with the Cub. Right now sleepin' grass or drowning in mud. |
Lew, nice snag. The "sheet metal" looks good. :biggrin2:
Is this that "secret" auction you went to? :bigthink: |
yes It was, besides that there were more cubbs, just no room.
|
Lew better bring it to plow day so I can take it off your hands.:beerchug:
|
Only if you really want it.I may want it to cut my grass,I call it a women's model.

Today was a good day,got a new front seal for the pto end and installed it.Put the motor back in and fired it up.It runs and drives like a 350 hr machine.I am happy, now just need to fix a issue with the steering column and put the plastic back on.
|
Lew, you had a busy day! Wish I would have gotten that much done!
|

Lew, couldn't you take that plate off to make room to have that piece welded back on like I did with my KT?
I know it's a different mount, but would be more stable.:bigthink: |
Lew doesn't take his time. Moving right along!
Good to see all this progress! Grass is coming FAST. |

Took the steering column out today and found a few chunks out of the steering gear,I had a bad column from an 1810,so I cut off what I needed and made a new stubby shaft.Filed down two flat spots in it and drilled a hole.Rebuilt it and will install tomorrow.
I had a JD one that had bad threads, but it was hollow. They make the races for the bearing a little beefier. |

Lew you are Da Man! Why do I think the Cyclops are growing on you? :bigthink:
Seriously glad to see someone that has the ability saving them. You'll enjoy the 1641 when your done with it. They are very underrated. |
Sam,
This 1641 will make someone a nice grass killer,I am a NF guy,but all I can find are these so I have to make do. I wonder if the motor will fit in a 582 Ih cub cadet? |

It's pretty obvious that Lew would like you to leave him alone. Time to get over it and move on. |
