A good place to eat ?

So hey, I'm going to be heading through eastern PA next Saturday morning on my way out to Ohio. Looking for some where to stop for breakfast, maybe I'll stop by Ray Weavers for his open house!, think the grill will be going yet?, nothing like burgers at 4am!

But seriously, I'm looking for a local restaurant that would be open about that time in the Rt 80, eastern PA area. Last year we stopped at a Denny's, what a disappointment.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Remember, I got a big appetite!

Thanks

Stop at Rays open house, we'll be there.:beerchug:

Hi, where you headed to in Ohio? Might be up for a meet and greet. Mike

Berwil 04-06-2015 11:20 AM

I don't know any places open that early for breakfast, but the powerhouse eatery is great for lunch and dinner, maybe timed better for the trip back. The food is good and not over priced for a real meal. There are parts and pieces all over from when it was a power house 80yrs ago, it's pretty need.

X2 on the Powerhouse. Had dinner there a few years ago when I was racing at Pocono. Very cool place. :beerchug:

I’m sure there are nicer places to go in Ohio but I’m actually going to Dayton. One of my kids is in our high school percussion group and they are heading out for the national championships. Here is their show from last year;

Contrary to what it says at the beginning of the video they actually took first place. It’s not quite what I was doing when I was a kid but they have fun. It would be nice to stop and say hi but this is very much a world wind tour, leave Mass at midnight on Friday night, return home 6pm Sunday, maybe some other time.

I was thinking about coming through again in August, maybe I’ll pick up J-Mech and head over to Old Settlers Day in Hillsboro and get some pork patties!, maybe I’ll swing by then,

Thanks.

Sam, I didn’t know they raced Cubs in the Poconos, what class were you in?

I used to race with a group called EMRA, Eastern Motor Racing Association. I ran in the truck class. Pic from a race at Pocono on the North course.

twoton 04-06-2015 09:10 PM

Looks like fun, you build the truck?

Truck was built by Ricky Townsend, he built a bunch of them for the PRO Tour series. I and a few of my friends picked up some when the New England series went in the tank. We set them up for road racing. Gotta love it when you can spank a $250,000.00 Porsche GT3 with a $20,000.00 truck. Yeah I had fun with it. This pic was when I was instructing for the Ferrari club at Watkins Glen. The car I'm about to pass is a very poorly driven 333SP, they are only about $1,000,000.00 :biggrin2:

Nice pictures, I'm sure they bring back memories, thanks for sharing.

Sugarloaf, PA 18249

What a great spot, we were the only non locals, our waitress, "Hellen" was sweet and what a great breakfast. I had the Farmer omlette AND a short stack of pancakes, gotta keep up my boyish figure!, kept me goin all day. Definitely worth stopping in.

Leaving late tonight to deliver a car down south, thought I check this place out for breakfast;

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran..._Maryland.html

Anyone ever been there? Any other recommendations in that area? Don't mind heading further south but don't want to get more than about 10 minutes off 95.

Remember, they gotta have big portions!

Thanks,

David

I'm not sure if this is close, but urban BBQ is fantastic. I've only been to the silver spring location so I can't vouch for the rest. We went every day we were testing at the army labs down the street. I even brought the sauce home for my wife, it's delicious.

I agree about the cooler. I usually take a cooler of stuff on road trips for drinks and what not- I've made food and did a rest stop lunch before. There are many that offer picnic tables away from the restroom building and into wooded areas so it's not as rest-stop ish. Granted this is in the summer months- might be a little chilly to go outdoor picnicking in January in Ohio. :beerchug:

twoton 01-02-2016 02:54 PM

Yup, bit chilly. Not when I get to Savannah tomorrow afternoon! :beerchug:

No, not Chester's Chicken. What do they fry that stuff in, diesel fuel? Never buy chicken at a gas station.

When traveling, I always ask the local Truck Drivers. They all know the little Mom and Pops places out in the woods. When I was young, a very long time ago I drove for GE. We knew were all the best places were by asking the locals.

I'd say it was the sriracha mayo that made it. No wonder there's no more tp.

If anyone is ever in Western Pa on Rt 30, hit Walats on top of the mountain. West side of Somerset co. Get the Ham sammich. Image from googoo. I lost the pic I took.

BYOTP might not be a bad idea. Dam, it's good! You order fries by the potato, btw.
