Front tine tiller behind a Cub?

.

I'm thinking about trying an old front tine tiller on the 3 point hitch behind my 1541. I have all the metal laying around to try it. Has anybody done this this before? Did it work? I would remove the handles and set the tines to always turn if the engine is running.

Here's a video of what I'm wanting to try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdjs...ature=youtu.be

Yep, like that, but I plan to drag mine backwards.

Looks redneck to me........
But obviously it's been done.

I assume you can reverse the tine rotation? Otherwise wouldn't it just pile the dirt up in front of it? :bigthink:

I like to consider it to be "low budget" and using what I have, but yes you are correct, it's certainly redneck lol.

Bill

I was hoping to duplicate the self propelled, rear tine, counter rotation tiller concept

I use a front tine tiller, till forward rotation going down, reverse rotation coming back, as I back up the machine.

I can till the whole garden, and never have to turn around,, sure saves on "effort".

No, the dirt does not pile up,,,, but, the cultivator sure "churns" the dirt.

You have to be careful, when doing reverse rotation, the cultivator wants to head to China!!

This is my point (if I'm understanding correctly), the tines are turning in the same direction of travel when you go forward then back. If he mounts the tiller backwards and drives forward it just seems like it will pile a bunch of dirt up in front of it under the tractor. After watching the video, I still don't know how much is piled up, but it does "churn" (throw) it all over the place!

Switch side of tines

Maybe you could unhook the tines and put them back on the opposite side they came off of? :bigthink:

I know this post is couple months old but was looking for some design ideas because I had the same thought ever since my neighbor gave me 2 old front tine tillers. One is set up with 3.5hp horizontal shaft B&S and other has 5.5 vertical. Think i am going to stick with the vert set up. But will take the tines off the other to make it as wide as my 104. I have a ton of scrap steel and tools to make it work. Only thing keeping me from making it happen is deciding which way to have the rotation of tines. But think after all the research i have done last couple days has lead me to keep them turning forward, as not to catch a rock to back of the head. Planning to start the build tomorrow. Will start new thread and post my progress.
O-, was wondering if you had decided to build and how you were making out?

i am planing to do this myself and am wondering if you have a closer picture of the brackets you made to hook the tiller to your sleeve hitch?

A tiller should turn in such a way that it doesn't cover your rear end in dirt. That's why the IH ones spin forward.

I may be wrong, but I believe his is a sleeve hitch from the factory. Sears used to sell a 38" sleeve hitch tiller, nowadays they have a 36" pull behind.

Here is another one. (Not mine)
