Forum observations

Sure are a lot of guests on the site right now. More than i'm used to seeing. Maybe these lurkers should join and identify themselves. Mike:biggrin2:

That has been true since day one. That is also true for most forums. Statistically, only 8 to 10 per cent of a Forum's membership actually carry and contribute to any given forum.

To add, I am sure you have noticed the "one and done" members, where they wanted to sell or buy something, or get some advice, and they are gone when they obtain what they came for.

Part of the game.

This is very common on every forum, to some people cubs are just a tractor they happen to own and only think about it when it's broke down. Fact of the matter is that we're dealing with 40 and 50 year old lawn mowers and the younger crowd isn't really interested so its up to the older crowd to keep it going, I may only be 32 but I couldn't imagine spending my time else where as this forum is a great resource with great members. My wife is addicted to Facebook and she's always trying to get me to join but I never will, Facebook will steal your soul.:biggrin2:

I'm not disagreeing with anyone, but aren't we all guilty of "visiting" websites, finding out what we want to know and then moving on?

I kinda thought that the internet was designed to pass along information.

It is sad to know that there are people out there whose Cub Cadets are just an old lawn mower and have no real appreciation for them. One mans trash...

j4c11 12-30-2015 11:27 AM

Some of those guests are users not logged in. I browse at work and most of time I'm not logged in, unless I want to post something, so I would show up as guest.*There's also crawlers - Google, Bing etc that probably show up in there as they hit different pages. And of course, people who just need information and find it here using Google.

X3! And they made a movie about the creation of it just to throw us off the real purpose of Facebook...to keep track of us! Sorry my paranoid side showing there.:biggrin2:

You guys do know, they have Cub Cadet stuff on FaceBook too, correct?

I'm on Facebook, I keep it light hearted, just fun stuff. Good way to keep in touch with old friends / family.

FaceBook is just like any other thing on the web, it can be good, or bad. Just depends on how you interact with it.

To each his own.

Tim, I agree with you 100%!! With a few exceptions. This is my youngest boy, 4 in pic. He loves these old cubs just as much as I do, he was out there the entire time I was swapping the engines around on the 1x4. My older boys were pointing out all the modified pullin cubs at the county fair from the grandstands during the pulls and the time we spent with the owners of those machines in the pits was the hilight of the fair for all of us!
I addmit i was a lerker for a few days before joining this awesome forum, since then I like to see what everyone here is up to as much as possible.
FaceBook is spawn from the pits of hell!!

Yea my wife shows me the cub stuff on there but between this site and Craigslist I have no issue finding cubs. I just see all the drama that Facebook has caused between friends and even married couples and I just don't need that in my life, I know who my friends are and I have there phone numbers and I know where they live. If you want to use it that's great and I have no issue with that but it's just not for me.

j4c11 12-30-2015 03:02 PM

There is nothing good about Facebook. You can keep in touch with your friends and family via phone, text, email, IM, Facetime etc. Once you join Facebook, you give up all privacy - you start "liking" things, now they know everything about you - religious beliefs, political affiliation, what you eat, what you listen to, where you've been and when , and so on. They track all your browsing too. Even if you never interact - like, post or upload, they still extract information about you from your circle of friends. You know the movie Matrix where people are the batteries? That's you on Facebook. I stay as far away from it as possible. :bash:

Billy-O 12-30-2015 06:57 PM

I've have joined and now I've given Facebook the double middle digits up. Joined them last spring in order to have contact with someone selling a NOS K301 for Cub Cadet. Nothing became of it and that was not a problem. But just last week in time for holidays, I tried to seek out an old family member. Tried to log on and Facebook questioned whether if was me trying to log onto my account. They want me to send them a photo-copy of my driver's ID with photo or birth certificate or some other sensitive document like bank statements.... anything to prove I'm me and I'm the one who owns my account. Of course, Facebook said to cover addresses, account numbers, DL number or anything not relevant. All they wanted to see is my name and mug shot. They don't need that........they are in contact with me thru email or text messaging with a password account. If they can't trust my email, then I can't trust them. Up yours, Facebook!

Sorry for my rant and sorry to derail the forum user topic.....just had to get this off my chest!

rocker582special 12-30-2015 07:05 PM

I agree completely. I joined this site for a few reasons:
To gain knowledge about all my Cubs I own as well as all other Cubs in general.
To check out other people's Cubs. Because we all love doing it.
I'll admit my two favorite sites are occ and Craigslist. I have no issues finding Cubs on either. I'm also on Facebook. But I agree with all you guys it causes drama and drives families apart. My opinion it's a joke. I'd rather talk about Cubs then my personal life.

Alvy 12-31-2015 04:43 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I don't have drama book either but have a wife that's glued to it. I do see it as a tool for reconnecting if you want to or stay connected with people. I'm just not into reconnecting I guess.

I have small kids and am insane about how everyone has to tell everyone else every detail of their life and where they are all the time. Guess I'm more private in that way.

I just watched a show where a tech saavy guy found 2 random girls on the beach and convinced them he was an old college acquaintance and knew all of their mutual friends, family members and everything, just by studying their profile details, a perfect stranger mind you. They were weirded out to say the least when he told them the truth and just by location services he knew way more than he should have.

I will admit it seems to invite the fox into the hen house with marriages as I've seen that happen to a lot of my friends but then again there's sites like Ashley Maddison that promote it which is crazy to me, and yeah, if you're in a bad marriage people find a way to step out anyway but I think it makes it easier for that stuff to happen.

Anyway I will stick to this site and craigs list as well.

So carry on if that's you're deal, I will stay on this side of the social media fence for now and cut the grass with my old "Club Cadet" "lawn mower"
Elle oh Elle :biggrin2:

Oh PS, I've been on our site at all hours of the night and I think the crawlers are out there more than we think, there's always way more guests at 3 AM than I think there really is.

ol'George 12-31-2015 07:36 PM

Hell I thought I was the only old fool who didn't do spaced out bookie thing or flitter flutter er whatever.
I tweet when I'm in the bathroom, :banned: but I don't have to post it to the world or take a picture of my "movements"..
There is way too much gubber-mint snooping into out lives, without helping them out.
I hate to use google but it is a valuable tool in finding things/people/parts.
End of rant. :bigthink:

bocephus1991 12-31-2015 09:22 PM

Facebook to me is the modern day party line to me. My wife says I spend to much time on here! Lol I'm friends with a couple OCC members on Facebook. As for the one and done wanting to sell I think it's good they care enough to try and sell their cub stuff to someone who will appreciate them .

Tim,

I couldn't agree more!! :beerchug:

OldSkull 01-01-2016 03:01 AM

I got few friends on Facebook but I don't share my personal life, the chat is useful for some of my contact in France, Northway, UK and USA, we share technical knowledge mostly or just new stuff we purchase or we found. For me it's a tool but I can live without it anytime!

Google, Craiglist, online auction, forums and E-mail accounts are my daily "tour". Learning something new every day or just looking at others wonderful realisation is what's drive me like a young boy in a candy store.

johns cubs 01-01-2016 03:47 AM

I have a hard time sleeping through the night, bad back. Cant stay in one position long enough to get a straight 6 hrs let alone 8 (more like 3 at a time) so if i wake and gotta get up and move around so i dont wake the wife I usually pop on here just to see if anyone posted anything new while I was napping! If nothing else just for a time killer but if I dont see anything going on I jump out to check out whats new on CL. got a few real good deals on there this time of night (morning) because not alot of competition!
I started a FB account to keep intouch with my two oldest daughters 15 & 17 that live with there mother (and only use that term because if i type what i usually call her i would be banned for life!) and while checking on them I have found my x buying and selling drugs on there for the whole world to see!! FB makes stupid people even more stupid I swear!! Even with all the dirt she hands me for free for the judge to see he still lets her get off scott free! Thinkin now he may be a FB junkie!!

mickb72 01-01-2016 09:54 AM

cub

I'm guilty of being a lurker (guest) too. I've read a couple tractor sites for over 10 years related to my 8n fords. I'd hate to join now and admit that. Mike:biggrin2:

IHinIN 01-01-2016 11:48 AM

My wife makes fun of me for being on a "lawnmower forum". She finally gave up on me joining Facebook. I see Facebook as a 24hr buffet for people who feed on BS and drama.

OldSkull 01-01-2016 03:59 PM

Internet is a huge "Human meat market" many desperate woman who "Sell" themselves like a piece of meat on meeting site. Most of them have been or "feel" severely abused by their EX so you better past a polygraph if you want to get any normal human contact with those.

Don't you regret the old time wen peoples use to talk to each other and get out to meet someone?

drglinski 01-01-2016 08:21 PM

My wife has a Pontiac Vibe and there is a genvibe forum that I visit when I need to do repairs that I'm just clueless about, but I couldn't care less about contributing other than to look up repair advice. :beerchug:

finsruskw 01-02-2016 09:42 AM

Don't do it either!!
Porches, and sidewalks back in the day when folks walked in the evening was the "facebook" thing when I was a kid. Next time you drive through a small town, look around, you will see many older houses and most all will have front porches that got a lot of use back then.

Face to face visiting is a becoming a lost art.
How many of you know your neighbors and could count on them should the need arise?

mortten 01-02-2016 11:00 AM

I live in a small town and know my neighbors and could probably count on them but for the most part they count on me. The 1250 clears most of their drives and sidewalks. I hate Facebook. The wife loves it.

I get this...

BUT

there are a lot of sites on FB that deal with cub cadets & related material. It's fun to see what projects people are doing, posting photos of them, and being able to get and sell parts, etc.

zippy1 01-02-2016 11:44 PM

I joined up on facebook awhile back because the stepson was all over Afghanistan and Iraq the last how many years to keep in contact with him. He would do a general post so the entire family could see how he was doing.
Now that he's home I deleted all friends, but still keep it open just in case. But man seeing it's open there are people I couldn't stand to be around, and didn't care much for me either from back in school (35+ years ago) that now want to be friends... Yeah right.
I've got an account with them, but no friends, and I like it thata way.
