Give a few mores specifics please. First, where did you get the body, was it off an amusement park ride? Is this the chassis that came with the body or something you modified/built? How much pressure are those tanks holdng when full? I'm not familiar with using CO2, could you have used compressed air instead? Certainly an interesting set-up!

You build some seriously cool toys! |

It uses liquid Co2 and Nitrogen. It would run on compressed air but there's not enough storage for it to run long.It uses a series of valves and solenoids which are regulated at 150/250 and 350 psi. The body and chassis are all handmade and fabricated by me.I fabricated the grille from flat aluminum plate.Took me ten years to build. The body started out life as liquid fiberglass in a can.No molds,All sculpted by hand.I machined and made the motor and air valve components from scratch. It has two air tanks for the Co2 to expand before going into the drive motor. It has two 10lbs Liquid Co2 tanks and one 10lb nitrogen tank,The nitrogen helps the Co2 expand faster. It also has and onboard air compressor that drives from the rear axle.It does two things,It can be adjusted up to 375psi and used to assist the Co2 to the air motor when at high speed and can be used as a braking system also if needed. |
Thanks for the specifics. I've seen stuff guys have made with fiberglass before, I just don't have the skill or the patience! Only thing I would have done different would be to use a gas engine so it could be ridden a LOT. I understand you wanted to do something way different with the drive system.
You've certainly got a lot of time invested in this machine, show it off and enjoy it! |
That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen!! Do you have an estimated date you wanna have it on the track by? Would love to see it in action!

[QUOTE=mowerpower2u;357371]Thanks John. I appreciate your comments.Glad you like it. I like to build things a little different than the norm. I did a little testing with it this past year.Still working on a few things. Hoping to have time this winter to do some more to it and run it next summer.
Hows it do in quarter? Whats it weigh? |
Why would you run a compressor off the rear axle? You are robbing power from your main drive. Same reason what drag cars frequently don't run any engine accessories (no alternator, water pump, power steering, etc.) Just seems like you're holding yourself back.
|
John, I haven't had it on the track yet and haven't weighed it.
