Haban 402-E Sickle Bar Mower

Today I picked up a Haban 402-E Sickle Bar mower. Appears complete except for the grass divider board on the end of the bar. I have a lot of research to do as I don't know a lot about these but my main question is if the 402-E is for a narrow or wide frame? It is currently mounted on a 107 but the manual shows it mounted on a 129. I will post pictures later on. Any help/advice is appreciated.

I think the E is the one that will go on either a NF or a WF.

Where the pics Martin?!?

:TTWWP:

Would that happen to be the 402e I listed up that was in Somerset?

Pictures sooner just for you Jonathan:biggrin2: Do you know what adjustments would have to be made to mount the mower from a narrow frame to a wide frame or vise versa?

What Terry said :biggrin2: I have some hill side that I have considered buying one for but not sure its the way to go for me. How long of a reach do you get?

Cubcrazy 01-09-2016 05:00 PM

Nice pickup on the haban Martin!:beerchug:

gcbailey 01-09-2016 05:28 PM

Gotta love the Haban! I'll try to remember to snap some pics and get some dimensions!!

darkminion_17 01-09-2016 05:39 PM

Looks good Martin,I know but no time for me to get measurements.

zippy1 01-09-2016 11:44 PM

It does look to be in real good condition Martin.:beerchug: Hey I plum forgot about the measurements you wanted, sorry.:bash2: But thinking about it, how am I going to describe measurements on something that shape?
I'll try to get someone to climb over everything this week and see what we can come up with unless someone beats me to it. (hint, hint)
Looks like you have some adjustments to make yet. That's a very important part because one thing off will throw something else off...

J-Mech 01-10-2016 12:56 AM

Very nice Martin!

I have no idea how to change it from narrow to wide or visa versa. I can't imagine it's too hard, the mounts look pretty simple. Good luck!

Very nice Martin.:beerchug:

Todd, what type of adjustments do you suggest or ran across when attaching your Haban? I have a set of the front axle hangers on the way that are correct.

Grass Divider Board

3 Attachment(s)
Well to complete my sickle bar mower all I needed is the grass divider board. Not having anything to go off from other than pictures I asked around for some measurements and this is what I came up with (thanks gcbailey!!!) Made this up today using 14 ga. sheetmetal and a piece of 1/4"x1" flat stock. The 2 chalk lines was me trying to decide how wide the "flag" side should be. Attached is a picture of an original and the one I made today. What do you guys think...close enough?

cubcadet 01-12-2016 07:27 PM

Amazing Martin, I need a bar cover and belt cover and plate that says haban when you get a chance.:biggrin2::beerchug:

darkminion_17 01-12-2016 07:28 PM

Looks good from here.

gcbailey 01-12-2016 07:47 PM

It might be springtime but I can get you some better pictures once everything gets "unpacked" again. ;)

Well I just saw the pictures of the front and it was hanging crooked. Didn't know it wasn't attached yet. Once you get the front hangers over the axle then the "fork bracket thingy" will go up on the sides of the axle pin.
My biggest trouble was the torque tube was hitting the diff, so I needed to do some adjustment there... Then when you are tightening the drive belt try and keep it even on both sides. THE TWO BOLTS, that are used for belt tension.

I am actually going to mount the sickle bar on my 106 or at least that is the plan. I had to get the correct brackets for the front axle so I should be all set as far as that goes. The "fork bracket thingy" does that straddle the axle pin or is it just on the front side of the axle pin? And I guess I'm not sure on that front plate that is used for the belt tension exactly how that works yet I haven't really looked at it.

zippy1 01-14-2016 01:15 AM

So that positioning bracket C straddles the axle pivot bolt...

Thank You!!

According to my manual I need belt #5771 for 1974 and prior Cub. Does anyone know the width and length of this belt?

darkminion_17 01-15-2016 06:41 PM

Martin,

It is a 3V x33.5" this is for a 402-d but it will get you close to what you need.

mrmiller 01-15-2016 08:30 PM

I also see the manual says to flip the pulley so the hub is facing out for 1974 and prior so I will need to do that. Just 2 set screws from what I can tell. I find it strange also that the 402-E is for a wide frame but it has suggestions for as far back as mounting it on a 1964....they didn't have wide frame till 1971.

The other day I sand blasted my grass divider board and axle mounting brackets for the Haban. Today I did some priming and painting. I know these parts should be red but I had some IH white sitting on the shelf so I just painted the parts with that. Good enough for me for now at least the parts wont rust. Unfortunately the IH white was that wonderful Magic paint from Tractor Supply that takes 6 months to dry so maybe by summer I will get it mounted.:biggrin2:

Any chance I could get your help? I’m trying to make a front mount for my sickle bar mower and I’m looking for some dimension, or close up pictures of the front mount.

I see you are new, Welcome to OCC !
Expecting to get a reply to a fourteen year old post is like winning the lotto or discovering perpetual motion. :bigthink:

I miss him too. I do not think he has passed. He was on here in April, 2024.

Zippy & his wife are doing well. I talk to him every few months.
