New to OCC with my first cub cadet, from RI
 

Hello everyone, My name is Brad and I'm addicted to old Cub Cadets! I'm a small engine mechanic for going on 18 years, and I am a 34 year old single dad raising my awesome 5 year old son since day one. I got my first Cub 1650 this past November. It is not yet drivable, but i take any chance I get to work on it. When I got it the steering column was missing and the dash was torn apart. I don't know the history on it, but I looks like it sat for a few years. It now has a steering column and is up and running again. But for some reason it will not drive. I haven't gone any further with it yet because I've never had the privilege to work on many cubs and not familiar with these transmissions yet. I have wanted an old Cub Cadet since I was little boy and never had the money or a chance to get one. So when I finally got one. I was so excited I sat on it most of the day and if it wasn't so cold I probably would have slept on the seat. That day a fire was lit under my butt and it is still burning strong. Because now I own 4 cub cadets, and counting. I love each and every second im on them driving them around. And my boy loves them too. We drive them around the yard and my neighborhood and I'm always getting thumbs up. I've been through a lot over the past few years and I lost my mom to cancer this past June, so on top of the love i have for them, driving these and working on them is therapeutic to me and helps with my depression. The second cub I bought in December and it is a 123. I'm the second owner and I have all documents along with a NOS deck housing. It sat in a barn for 8 years before I rescued it. The day I got it, I tuned it up. Did the fuel system and was driving it that day. The third cub is a 102 and i bought it on January 3rd. I do not have the deck for it. But it came with a plow and tire chains. I've used it twice and it's a beast! I tuned that one up and rebuilt the carburetor before using it. And I had a friend make me a brand new shave plate at his machine shop for it. The new plate is 3/8 thick by 3"width and added some weight to the plow blade. Works perfect! The 4th cub I just got last Sunday. It sat in a garage for 3 years and I'm the second owner of that one as well. It's a 1450. Ithe came with a box of extra nos belts,blades, oil filters and oil from cub cadet. It also came with every document including all manuals, parts break down manuals and even the original receipt from may 2 1978 with the hand writing of the time it was delivered to the gentlemans house. I helped dig it out of the garage. And 30 minutes after it was brought to my house I was driving it. I have a possible 5th coming soon. And that one is a 123 as well. They're adding up fast and At some point I'm going to have to stop buying them. But not now lol.. I have to much fun with them and I feel like a kid again. Eventually after I save some money I would like to find a front loader attachment and a snowblower attachment as well. I've read some posts on this site. And I am amazed with the knowledge the members have. I've seen a lot of beautiful cub cadet pictures on this site posted by members as well. Im looking forward to getting to know fellow Cub Cadet fanatics. And I am sure I will learn a lot from many of you.

Welcome to occ.congrats on the new cubs and im glad you have something enjoyable to share with your son, I have two sons with my oldest being 5 and he loves helping me work on them and riding them around.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am trying to figure out how to post pictures of my Cub Cadets. This is the only forum I am a member of and I'm not to good with computers please bear with me. I am excited to show you guys as I know you'll appreciate them. I also talked to the gentleman who has the 123 this morning and we're working out a deal. Hopefully I can get it by Sunday. I am thinking that this one will end up being restored for my little guy. He has a riding mower that i built for him when he was 3 without the deck on it and he has been driving it since. And he also loves helping me fix things. He is an awesome boy and I don't know what I'd do without him. I do have two othere kids (16 y/o girl, and 14 y/o boy Jr.) with my ex wife that I see on the weekend's and we all have a blast with these. It is snowing today and I've been plowing with my 102 this morning. It's just an awesome tractor! As soon as I figure out the pictures. I will post them. Thanks again guys!

Just came in from plowing, we got about 8" of heavy wet snow. 1200 ran right through it! Temperature's dropping quick.

Thank you twoton for the help! It took a few tries but I think I finally got it with the picture uploads! If it all goes through. The line up picture is my 102,123,1450 and 1650. The two sitting next to each other the driveway are my 102 plow and my 123. The plow cub was used yesterday and it was my second time being able to pee with it. I wired up strobes as well. The thing is a beast! The picture of the 1450 is the night I got it. It was covered in dust so I had to give it a quick clean. And at that point I had driven it already. And the picture of the 123 missing a head light is the 123 that I bought today. It came with the plow and deck. It doesn't start right now and hasnow no spark. The guy put new condensor and coil in it, but I noticed he wired then backwards "yippie" lol.. all riders have the decks, and the 1450 and 1650 I do have the side engine panels. I will list more pictures in the near future.

In between the snow and freezing temperatures this past week. I was itching to get the Cub 123 going that I had just bought. It was a small mess under the hood, but it's straightened out now and running great! The guy I purchased it from could not get it going and was driving himself nuts before he posted it on Craigslist. He had bought a new coil, condensor, spark plug and rebuilt the carburetor. Put it all in and still couldn't get it going and had intermittent spark. Also it was leaking near the fuel shut off on the tank. So he caked it up with plumber's putty. Anyway I fixed the leak, fixed the coil(which was wired backwards), replaced the burnt wire, replaced the condensor, cleaned the points with a file and changed the exhaust stack (1" gas pipe) back to a regular muffler. I figured I'd check the spark before I put the cover on just to be sure even though I new it was all wired right. And guess what, no spark! Everything tested good, I knew the points were clean and getting contact. And I was getting nothing. So after 15 minutes of banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out. I went back to the points. While turning the engine over i put pressure on the points and bam. I had perfect spark! Apparently I over looked the spring on them. It was so weak that if I blew on it, it would move. So I took the points off, and "tweaked" the spring so it would snap back. I put everything back together, and it stated right up! I drove it for about a half hour. It runs and drives great! But When the warm weather comes. I need to straighten out the steering. It has some play in it. For now, I need to get back onto the 1650, and see why it won't drive. I don't know the history on it. And when I bought the tractor. It had no steering colum and the wiring was a mess. Now that all that is straightened out. I want to drive it! :American Flag 1:

Thank you again for the warm welcome! I haven't had much of a chance to sit down and relax, so I haven't been able to reply. But I absolutley plan on posting more pictures just as soon as the weather gets warmer! I live in New England, nuff said lol.. Speaking about that I live in Warwick. The part of RI with the least amount of farms, and more city. So when I drive my cubs around. I definitely get good attention. Especially when me and my kids drive them around! OH YEA, I added one more to my collection. It's a 122. I picked it up Thursday. Its missing the right side wheel spindle, so I have to find one. Other than that is all together and it runs! I will post a picture. I have been thinking about selling either my 1650, or my 1450 (not that I want to) so I can find and buy a 125. I LOVE the 60's cubs and those are the ones that bring me back to my childhood. When I used to stare through my picket fence as a boy and watch the neighbor cut his grass on one. Im still learning about these cubs. And I know the 125 and 124 are the same body. But what I like is the white dash with the blue. And the chrome shifter on the hydro drive. I never seen one in person. So there might be other differences. But from pictures I've seen they appear to be very similar. Anyway, I'll talk to you guys soon!

Cadzag72, going by the bottom of your reply. It looks like you'd be one of the people I'd want to talk to about a snowblower attachment and down the road maybe leads to a front loader when I get some extra money. Maybe you would know places near us to get certain parts as well. Im looking for some miscellaneous things. Also I would love to see some pictures of your cubs and anyone else who would like to share! I can't get enough of these and my little boy is just as crazy about them too!

I don't live far from you at all, I'm in the Edgewood section of Cranston (at the beginning of Warwick Avenue).. I've only been collecting tractors since last July, but in that amount of time I have amassed three Cubs, A 1963 Original, a 102 with a deck and a 122 with a plow (plus 5 or 6 John Deeres, 4 Sears Suburbans, and a Single Massey Ferguson. Nice to meet you Paul! My name is Brad. You're actually not that far at all from me. I live in Oakland Beach about half way up O.B. ave. I work in lakewood near the post Rd, warwick ave intersection. I've been into fixing small engines for most my life and do it for a living. I've been wanting an old Cub Cadet since I was a boy. And finally got one in October 2015. I was very excited when I got it but I didn't realize how addicting it is! I now own a 102, 122, (2) 123's, a 1450 and a1650. And I don't see the end in sight. I love working on them and driving them. And I have met some great people along the way. I've also learned a lot as well. My license is kind of suspended right now, but it would be nice to get together some time. Your more than welcome to come by and check out my tractors sometime. Have a great day

Thank you! I'm still looking for a 125 Cub. I'm going to possibly getting another 122 running project and a running and driving 127 which will need a partial mechanical restore. I met the guy from Craigslist this week. He had parts listed on there and I contacted him to buy steering parts. He gave me both steering "knuckles" for 20 dollars. But he has a decent collection himself. And he has interest in my 1650. So I feel a barter coming on lol.. Other than that I finally found a snow blower attachment which I have to pick up this week. QA42 I believe, all there ready to bolt on for 100 dollars. On another note. The last tractor I bought is a 122, 2 weeks ago. I bought it because its all original. I wanted the seat for my 123. It had 2 little holes in it, that's all. Well I went and sat on it the other day when it was 30 degrees and now it has a huge crack in it. I need to find someone who can upholster it the right way around here.
