Drive your tractor to school day

During FFA week the kids have this special day.

That kid in the humongous red tractor is overcompensating!
|
very cool, wish they had this when I was in school
|
Some less fortunate kids had to drive the green ones to school. That is sad....

Wish I could have done that in school too

They did this at my school today, yet no one brought one in, I didn't know they literally meant drive you're tractor to school. Gotta love my farmall
|
Had something similar when I was in highschool. I borrowed my neighbors trike M. Was a blast going all the way across town on that thing
|
FFA has been doing this since at least the 70's. My dad did it in high school, so did I. I'm not so sure granddad didn't. Not really new. Still cool. In my area, it's really sad. Not many farm kids left. Most borrow from their neighbor, or the same farm has like 4 or 5 of the tractors that are there, just different kids drive them in.

My High School did this when I started going to high school about 14 or 15 years ago but by the time I got out of high school, this day was no more :(
|
The FFA at the school I teach at just had theirs on Monday. Only one of the 12 tractors was cab-less and older than the 1990's and it was a JD B. The farm I grew up on had a 966 w/o a cab as our newest/main tractor until 10 years ago so that seems odd to me. I didn't drive in the parade but I made sure to load up my cub and bring it in the back of my pickup that day. 30 degrees is a little cold to ride around town on a cub while wearing dress pants.

That is so neat!

We never did a drive a tractor to school day even though I grew up in a rural area. It would have been fun. My brother decided to do it with his buddy their senior year- he was on a H and his buddy on a Super H. The H is my dad's, and he's a mechanic by trade, and the Super H's owner works in a salvage yard. Long story short, my brother passed his buddy on the road with the regular H even though the other guy was on a Super H. (Dad has tuned the governor weights way down so it'll really haul in road gear. Makes it scream and shake real bad so I don't do it much when I drove/drive it. ) :biggrin2: |

Here is a picture of my son Bryan on my Dads OCC. My Dad and I restored it about 12 or so years ago and my Dad has passed on now.
Bryan drove it to school last year on drive your tractor to school day. He got lots of compliments. I can't find the pic, but he parked it next to a Versatile 4wd tractor! Quite a contrast! Randy |
Man this brings back memories. About 1967 or thereabouts the school had one of these events. The hero of the day was the son of a construction company owner. He drove to school on a road roller and flattened the speed bumps in the school parking lot.
