We need add'l information. Measure the cut-width of the deck from LH Blade Tip to RH Blade tip, ie: 38, 44, or 50.

I'm getting a measurement of 44"

You have a model 44 Mower Deck.

The 44 mower deck was designed for the 1x8/9 Series Tractors. It will fit on a 1450 (Q/L Series) with one small modification. The Center Drive Pulley will have to be changed to: IH-126393-C1. With that change, you will need belt: IH-117465-C1

Just for the heck of it......measure the Diameter of the Center Pulley. Maybe, just maybe, it has already been changed. Let us know.

Okay will do, I'll get a measurement as soon as I get home today

FLETCH14519 04-25-2016 07:00 PM

I measured 3 9/16"

FLETCH14519 04-26-2016 07:43 AM

If I have the original pulley set up, do we know what size belt it originally takes with out upgrading the pulley?

OK...something is wrong here. Are you measuring the pulley at the outer most diameter..?? :Huh:

Yes, this was the O.D. Of the pulley?

FLETCH14519 04-26-2016 09:20 AM

From the looks of the pulley, it looks like the original pulley of the deck. I could be wrong tho

1450

I have a with a 44a deck, I believe it is original to the tractor.
If the deck is original to the a 1450 I think it should be a model 44A deck and will use a 1/2" wide belt. The top of the center pulley measures 4-1/4" across the top.

Randell, was there a 44 deck prior to the 44A? I believe the quietline came out with the 44A and 50A decks, then the 82 series came out with the "C" decks. The "C" decks used the 5/8" wide belts. Please correct me if I am wrong, but that is what I think to be accurate.

Here is where the problem lies. I can NOT find where the 44A had a 3-9/16" center pulley. All the data that I have is, what you stated: 4-1/4"

:HeadScratch:

Wow! That ain't posta be that way...

That pulley is ho-made.

R Bedell 04-27-2016 06:17 AM

Now that we have established you have a modified home made pulley, you have two options.

(A) Use the existing pulley. Measure the distance around the the belt route with string and find a belt that will work for this application.

or

(B) Change the Center Drive Pulley to: IH-126393-C1. With that change, you will need belt: IH-117465-C1.

Just an opinion, but I would opt to change the pulley, as it has a small wrap @ that diameter and might slip under heavy grass conditions.
With that said, your smaller pulley @ 3.5" mathematically should use a 1-1/2" shorter belt than a 4-1/2" pulley would use. ( approx) :bigthink:

Looking at the Mower Deck more closely, someone added a plate under the center pulley that isn't original either. See attachment...

Yeah it looks like my grandfather made this plate to keep it brief from getting inside where the belt is. That's my guess

Guess I'll just take a string and try and measure a belt to fit.

Leadslingingdaddy 04-28-2016 10:21 AM

Would that make the list as a "Homemade" Speed up Pulley?

So I've been following along on this and thought that it might be time to figure out what decks I have. I have 4 Quietlines that came with 3 decks. The decks are all the same except that one has a smaller center pulley. Up until now I always thought that the one with the smaller center pulley had been upgraded to a "speedup pulley". Now I'm not so sure. So following Rolands advice;

I thought that IH-126393-C1 pulley was the speed up pulley as referenced elsewhere and in a thread by Maxwelhse;

...which I thought was NLA??:bigthink:

You can see from the second picture that the center pulley (that I just removed) measures 5" across? I guess two of these decks could have originally been from model 1X8/9 tractors?:bigthink:

There is NO such thing as a "speed up pulley" as far as Cub Cadet is concerned. The referenced pulley is a stock pulley used in an "non intended" application to give the blades more RPM's in that particular application.

The model 44 deck has a 5" pulley as stock.

The model 44A deck has a 4-1/4" pulley as stock.

riflemann 05-06-2016 09:04 AM

Yes! On my 1976 1200 it has a 44 deck with a 5" pulley. I bought another 1200 yesterday, a 1978 and it has a 44C deck with the 4 1/4" pulley. I was amazed at how much better the 44C deck mows, but the blades are sharper also.

R Bedell 05-06-2016 09:31 AM

There were three (3) versions of the 44 inch Mower Deck

* 44 for the 1x8/9 Series
* 44A for the Quietline Series
* 44C for the 82 Series.

If you mix the decks up with the tractor series, you can come up with different performances.

riflemann 05-06-2016 03:11 PM

Bedell....

Interesting!!!!

I think that the deck on my older 1200 is a 44, but the tag is very faded/worn.
It is no doubt a 5" drive pulley. So what are the differences between the 44 and the 44A?

thanks!

The center pulley....

44 has a 5" Pulley
44A has a 4-1/4" Pulley

riflemann 05-06-2016 03:20 PM

that is all of the difference, the size of the pulley?
