How far would you drive for a cub
I was looking at some attachments for my cub but they are about five hours away, was debating whether it is worth driving that far. The furthest I have gone for a cub related item was 2.5 hours. So that got me curious, how far are you all willing to drive for a cub/attachment/part that's on craigslist or something of the like? or if you have, whats the furthest you've gone for a cub?

i've picked up cubs from as far as 9 hours away but i was already passing through, the furthest i've ever went specifically to pick up a cub is when i went to Lew's to pick up the 1211 which was a little over 5hrs each way.

If you drive 2x faster, it takes only 1/2 the time. :biggrin2:

I'm about 50 miles North of St. Louis...
I've been to Florida to pick up 3 parts tractors (all 3 had 3 point hitches). Went to the East end of Kentucky to pick up 7 tractors and a ton of parts. Went to Michigan once. Been to Indiana several times. A couple of trips to Ohio. 2 trips to a small town near Columbia Mo. Once to a town in Illinois, North of Chicago (West of the lake) with a religious sounding name. Once to Minneapolis. Twice to Wisconsin. Once to a town just North of Carbondale Il. 3 trips to Arcola Il. 2 trips to Iowa in the last month. And probably another 10 or 12, 100-200 mile trips that don't really stand out in my mind. |

4 hours each way. And should have stayed home. Has not worked out well yet.

Longest trip I did was about 660 miles and 12 hours one way to pickup a 2284 and a 2182. :beerchug:

With gas prices being as low as they are its the perfect time to take long trips to pick up cubs, I went to Lew's and back for $85 and it's a 600 mile round trip. The price of gas seems to be climbing and has went up about 50 cents in the last month, hopefully it doesn't go much higher.

OK....I am showing my age. Two hours one way is max for me. After that, I'll need a chauffeur.:biggrin2:
|
4 hours each way for me to visit "Nick the Cartman" and aquire a very nice #2 cart... was worth it to meet nice folks and see the country side!

The longest we went is Fredericksburg, VA.

To get my second 127 I went 5 1/2 hours one way to Minnesota with my fiancée and a great dane in the truck. Even with the load of cubs, gas, lunch, and time, I think it was $450 for the whole trip. You don't find a deal like that very often around Nebraska. I would drive 7 hours one way to find one like that again.

7+ hours one way and 950+ miles round trip... 60% for the Cub and 40% because I'd never been there and a great experience with my son! No regrets! :beerchug:

Drove all the way down to Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island once to pick up a 1450. Took me about an hour and 20 minutes each way. Swore I’d never do that again.:biggrin2:

I only drove a hour one way to get my 147. Guess I got lucky. :biggrin2:
It would depend on what it was and how much I wanted it for how far I'd go. |
This sounds like the old commercial, "What would you do for a Klondike bar?":biggrin2: It depends on a lot of factors, like how rare the item is (and by rare I mean that both ways: how hard it is to find in general and how hard it is to find in your particular area), the price of the item, and how bad you want it! Oh, another factor is if the seller gives you correct information on his/her location. Once I drove 6 hours there and 2.5 hours back because he and the item was in an entirely different town that was miles away from where he said it was and did not return my phone call for over an hour. Stupid soft cab wasn't worth it, even for his asking price of $35.

Been about 6.5, 7 hours one way a couple times. Made a couple trips to Niagara Falls and Rochester area from southern WV... Good times.

Not to throw it off subject, but it's Cub related. How far would you drive for a Haban deck?

I have a 1872 with a 50" deck that is holy, but still mows. Haban is $300 & 4.5 hrs away.
|
I drove 850 miles last spring to buy a new truck and picked up a Cub along the way...:bigthink:
Does that count?? |

Road Trips
I don't remember the mileage but we spent about 14 hours in the truck when we went to michigan and picked up the 126 and a 107....we did swing through Toledo and have supper at Tony Pacos...I enjoy the road trip and hope that never changes.....
|
If my Haban deck went bad, and knowing how good it works and the amount of time it saves cutting our grass, I'd go a great distance to replace it.:beerchug:
My furthest trip was 29? miles round trip, and that was about far enough for me. |
Zippy it is a shame you will only go 29 miles. I have either scraped or given away at least 12 Haban decks.

I'm like Zippy, about 30 miles is the furthest we ever traveled to haul a Cadet home. However that particular Cadet (122) was sold in the Midwest, went to S.C. before coming to Raleigh, N.C. All the original manuals managed to stay with it along its journey, but it did lose its snow blower along the way.:biggrin2:
I guess it just depends on how plentiful Cadets are in your area or how far you are willing to go for a rare machine. As best as I can remember, we have 10 of them. The 100, 382, 128, and 2072 were all delivered right to the shop door. |

Zippy my mistake but again even at 290 something your not making it to PA from WI.
|
OK..... I never driven more than an hour for a cub
But I let it slip my mind that I've driven close to 300 miles from home for a NOS K301 that fits a cub. The bonus is meeting up my with brother and his family vacationing in the Finger Lakes region in NY about less than an hour on the way back. Got to stay the night. I want another NOS K301! |
3-4hrs easy

The last three I've brought home all were in the 3 - 4 hour range one way. Now that I'm retired, if I found the right Cub at the right price I'd say probably 6 hours max. That way, I would be able to drive out, BS for a while, and drive home all in one day. But who knows, an awesome, once in a lifetime deal would require special consideration!!!
|
For this old fart an 8 hour round trip is about max. Luckily at the moment I have no burning desire to pickup anymore Cub's. The 1864 I got a few months ago I was able to get the seller to ship it for less than I could have driven to PA to get it. :beerchug:
|
I have travelled up to about 4 hours for some tractors but really since I started flipping tractors about 6 years ago most all of the best finds have been free, or cheap, and less than an hour away, and that includes every Cub Ive had or have now, so Ive learned to be patient... something always comes along;)
|
Since it is a good hour round trip just to go get some beer, am not sure how far I would go for a Cub. I might be the only one I MT with a Cub. Maybe South Dakota it Kinda close
