1211 h2 2 spool valve install

Like most of us, I wanted to have dual hydraulics on my 1211, but didn't want to pay the price for a cub 2 spool valve. I opted to buy a john deere H2 valve off eBay which only cost me about $45. Here's a pic of the 1 spool cub valve and the 2 spool JD valve.

I'm mounting it to the bracket. It was pretty easy. There's a few unused holes in the cub bracket and one of them line up perfect, so I only had to drill one new hole. Here's a pic of it installed.

This is the point where the train came off the tracks. I needed a few different fittings than what I had, and there's no place to buy fittings around here on a Sunday. Since I couldn't run the lines, I figured I'd at least install the coulpers in the front and rear. I was unable to use the factory lower hole on the front of the tractor because the engine mounting rail. The engine mounts are in the way, so I had to drill a new hole next to the upper hole. I know the fittings are a little close together but as you can see the belt for the mower is right there and I wanted to keep it as far away as I could. Here's pics of the front and rear couplers installed.

When I installed the valve, I was able to use the factory lines that run to the rear-end, but I had to modify the return line a bit due to the extra width of the 2 spool valve. The factory line has some pretty tight bends that a close to the ends, so I opted to shorten it instead of making a new one.

Hopefully, I can get the rest of the fittings I need, and finish this project up next weekend.

Top notch work, Tim!

I wouldn't say top notch, maybe 2 notches from the top.:biggrin2:

Looks good!

FWIW,
Normally you would use parker style hyd. fittings.
Since you are not encountering high pressures, the inverted nut/flair connection is ok, but do make sure you double flair them as in brake/fuel lines or over time vibration will crack the line right @ the flair.
If you know/did this, great:beerchug:

Nice Tim ..I dont have anything against making mods on the cheap $$$$$

If your talking about the splice in the return line, I did double flare them.

Looks great to me!

I finally made it to the hydraulic shop this morning to get some lines made, this project was on the back burner but I messed up my knee on Tuesday and can barely walk so I need something to mow with that doesn't have a clutch. This weekend is pretty busy but hopefully I can find time to finish up this project, more pics at that time.

ACecil 08-19-2016 09:29 AM

Hope your knee feels better soon, Tim. Looking forward to your pics.

Idk what it is, but aux hydraulics and cat 0 on a low hp cub intrigues me. Probably because you never see it but any way, good job! Running hard or soft line?

Soft line out of the valve down to a tee and then hard line from there to the couplers. This 1211 had more than enough power for the moldboard and I really want power angle for the winter, I don't have any plans for the rear ports yet but I thought it was foolish not to install them while I was doing the rest of the work. Just getting it ready for my R bucket.:biggrin2:

You fabricating the controls for the valve?

Yes, the only reason I haven't done it yet is because I wanted to finalize the lines first to make sure I wouldn't have to move the valve.

Me either, last winter was my first with hydraulic lift and it was awesome but I still had to get off and turn the blade, not this year. :biggrin2:

Well its kinda like a virus, hydraulics that is... Hydraulic lift, then hydraulic outlets, and then you run a machine with power steering. Before long your re designing the three point and trying to figure out what other attachments you can make hydraulically operated.

BTDT.
2,782's & 1650 cubs, all with power steering.
A Farmall 400 with a vintage Wain-roy backhoe off a Hough payloader.
They earn their keep.:beerchug:

A rear IH back blade or the rear rake comes to mind....:bigthink:

zippy1 08-22-2016 12:28 AM

Hydraulic turn on a push blade... Priceless!

olds45512 08-26-2016 12:52 PM

Haven't made much progress lately, with everything that's been going on there just hasn't been time. I will be setup at the local fair all next week to promote the powder coat business so it looks like it's gonna be another week, I did put all the lines coming off the spool on hand tight and test fit the gas tank to make sure it clears and it does by about an 1/8". Next week is gonna be a long one, I will be working my normal hours at the shop and then I will be up at the fair for another 5hrs.

Not to much, turns out I know somebody that's an amateur machinist and he made me these parts which will eventually become the levers for the valve.

Dirty Steve 09-18-2016 07:42 PM

Looks awesome. Can't wait to see the rest.:beerchug:

Got some work done today on the handles, I decided to go with round stock for the handles which I will thread and put handles on.

ol'George 09-20-2016 07:59 PM

Coming along nice , If I may suggest, add circumferential gussets to the levers where they are welded.
Easier now then later when they break:beerchug:

olds45512 09-20-2016 08:11 PM

I drilled into both pieces so the handles went in until they bottomed out on the cross shaft, I didn't just weld the rod on. I tested them out by putting them in a vice and I was pulling hard enough to start tipping the bench, should be plenty strong.

ol'George 09-20-2016 08:20 PM

That should work well then.
I had not anticipated you drilled pockets.

ACecil 09-20-2016 09:28 PM

Nice work Tim, make sure you get the heated knobs for the end of your levers. :HeeHee:

I got the fab work done on the levers, I'm really happy with how they turned out. I used the knobs off the hydro control levers of a couple of parts tractors, once I powder coat the levers in chrome to match the hydro lever they should look factory.

Sam Mac 09-22-2016 08:12 PM

Nice Fab work! Way better than factory. :beerchug:

bugeye 09-22-2016 08:19 PM

Very nicely done. Looking forword to the rest of the build.

well now you're gonna have to start selling kits!

If I did you couldn't afford it, I have way to much time into this.:biggrin2:
