67 short bed needs some love! I'm trading in the 88 F-150 for a week. No AC will suck, but if I go fast enough it shouldn't matter! Day light pics tomorrow.:beerchug:

That's what those little triangle window are for, nothing like 2-60 AC! Just stay out of stop and go traffic.

DeltaCub 08-28-2016 07:38 AM

When I was a child, my neighbor had three GMCs like this...same color too. He had the wheels painted red and the hub caps painted silver to match the bumper. His trucks seem to last forever.:beerchug:

That's a sweet old bowtie. I would love to pick an old Chevy in that condition. :beerchug: Got to love the old wing window AC.

cubcadet 08-28-2016 09:08 AM

Very nice truck!:beerchug:

The tilt out front windshield on my Model A works quite well. No worse than being on a motorcycle.

ACecil 08-28-2016 11:18 AM

Neat truck, Travis!

Seriously, they bring a lot of air in? I would have thought there was a lot of deflection. By the way, you KNOW you are going to have to post pics of the whole vehicle, right?

jaynjeep 08-28-2016 04:08 PM

Travis.. we had a 67 shortbed chevy when I worked at the small engine shop in the 80's! We used it to do pick ups and deliveries..

Had a 307 V8 and a powerglide 2 speed auto... great truck except for the steering... at slow speed it took a hell of a set of arms to turn it!!:biggrin2::biggrin2:

Way cool, but I'll stick to my 2015 Toyota Tacoma. I'm old and I like all the creature comforts. :beerchug:

Thanks everyone! Jay, this one has the 283, well that's what it started life as!:biggrin2: I think I miss the power steering more than the AC. Here's a couple more pics in in the sun. Should have taken them after I bathed it.

ol'George 08-29-2016 06:51 AM

Too bad it is not yours, they are a good old truck.
Still have my '71 super cheyenne I bought new.
My boys will argue over it when my time comes to go to that chebby junk yard in the sky!!:bigthink:

My brother and I call those "crotch windows." Work great until there is a bee that hits them.....They are great to have open with a woman in the pass. seat that is wearing a skirt. :biggrin2:

CubDieselFan 08-29-2016 09:42 PM

My grand dad had 70 model that he taught me drive. Three on the tree, is what we called the standard 3 speed.

mortten 08-29-2016 10:11 PM

My best friend's grandfather had a fishing camp in Canada. We used to spend a lot of the summer there. He had a 70 Chevy that we used to run trash to the dump in. We were 10 years old. Great fun.

zippy1 08-29-2016 11:51 PM

Well I'm thinking you "need" to keep that short box bowtie Travis.:beerchug:

Shrewcub 08-30-2016 12:13 AM

That's funny Daniel!:biggrin2: I've never had the bee thing happen and I use the crotch windows all the time in the Ford.

This one originally had the 3 on the tree. He put a 4 on the floor about 15 years ago. I last drove this truck, until yesterday, when I was 10 or 12 picking up hay bales in the fields. I actually took the trash to the dump on Sunday in it.:beerchug:

Todd, I may actually own it one day. I get first chance to buy when the time comes. Guess I need to start saving my pennies!:bigthink:

Gave the '67 a bath today. What an absolutely gorgeous day in Va to take it for a ride afterwards!:beerchug:

no thanks..... 100X over, would rather have the Chevy
what... no fans of Armstrong steering? They steer easier than a p/s setup on the fritz//// I have had a few with manual steer, I liked that best it seemed in the winter. of course we get slick crap in these parts....
among several 70s vehicles I have driven, I remember alot of vehicles with "too easy" power steering.

Shrewcub 06-26-2017 01:00 AM

Jay, whatchu mean no frills? It has vent windows, AM/FM cassette tape radio w/ 4 speakers! :biggrin2: It does steer great as long as you're moving. Every time I drive it it gets easier and I enjoy it more! The first time I drove it was in a field, picking up hay behind an IH 354. It was still a 3 on tree then. I think I was 12.:bigthink::beerchug:

dodge trucker 06-26-2017 07:27 AM

things I want on my next truck;
vent windows
floor vents
floor mount dimmer switch
carbureted engine or else maybe a diesel
no rust
been looking for this for a while but getting hard to find

steelsmith 07-02-2017 10:03 AM

May of 1976 and I was soon to report to Ft. Campbell, ky. there was a new GMC dealer opened in Rockford, Ill. . For the grand opening they had some GMC short bed step side with the inline 6, 3 speed on the tree ,bench seat and no rear bumper. out the door for $4,895.00
I put over 300 miles on it the first night I had it, gas was still less then $0.50 a gal at that time.
I put a lot of miles on that truck in the next three years and I still miss it a lot.
I look around from time to time thinking I may run into one , (and I have been saving money jest incase I do.)
But if I was to come up with a nice chev as the one you have will I could live with it and have one great time again.
Thanks for your post and the photo's that is a nice looking truck.
Joe
